I am a student at the University of Maryland - College Park. I am working towards earning my Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science with a secondary concentration in Technology Entrepreneurship by the end of this year. My mission is to help all types of students achieve the same level of success that I did and even beyond my own. I get my motivation from empowering them to achieve what sometimes feels unattainable but with the right attitude, tools and skills is within their reach. I've had the opportunity to work and mentor at a STEM enrichment program. It was an Army-sponsored, summer STEM enrichment program for middle and high school students that takes place in participating Army Research Laboratories. I was mentoring and providing support to students in underprivileged communities through STEM education. I would say I love to teach math because it is beautiful. Because structure, symmetry and pattern have an aesthetic that speaks to me. I grew up in an environment that was community-help based which is where my desire to help comes from. I was born with a very strong sense of empathy and if I see that a person is struggling I do all that I can do to uplift them. Community action has shown up in my life on numerous occasions because without the strong and impactful community that I've had over the years, I would not be where I am today. I always look back and appreciate the role of how community action has played on me and how it has increased my understanding, engagement and empowerment of communities. Every student is unique in their own way and comes from a diversity of backgrounds, but my duty is to help them create an environment that will benefit their academic and personal development.

I am a cum laude graduate of Norfolk State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics. Because of my passion for Math, I find it fun to help others understand and appreciate it as well. For two of my college years, I tutored my fellow students in all levels of Algebra and Calculus. After graduation I returned to my hometown of Columbus, OH and continued to tutor privately until I moved to Bowie, MD in May 2013. My favorite topics to tutor would have to be Algebra and Calculus. Algebra is one of the fundamental topics of Math and Calculus can be applied to an array of different subjects. I believe that Math builds upon itself and without a proper foundation it is impossible to move forward. Because of this, once the student grasps a concept in one problem I have them repeat the process until they can do so easily. In my spare time I enjoy reading books on history, weightlifting, traveling and baseball.

I have passionately and successfully worn the mantle of educator for the past fifteen (15) years. I have taught all core curricular subjects at the elementary and 6th grade levels. Over the years, I have had the privilege of teaching and positively impacting the lives of students in Jamaica and the United States. My favorite subjects to teach are Math and the different Reading skills as they tap into my strengths and really empower me to connect with my students. My passion for the teaching profession has been executed by putting the needs of my students at the forefront of my teaching methodologies.Hence, my teaching style is eclectic and flexible as it incorporates best practices across the teaching profession in order to make learning a personalized experience for my students and tap into their distinct learning styles. Throughout my tenure as an undergraduate student at Coppin State University, I have learned to appreciate the importance of both education and balance. In a society with an increasing demand for leadership, knowledge, computer skills, etc. I have taken it upon myself to help others rise to meet the demand. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. I also minored in Chemistry and Psychology. With this knowledge, I plan to pursue a Doctorate of Pharmacy from an accredited 3 or 4 year institution. Currently, I work part- time as a certified Pharmacy Technician and Wellness Ambassador for Rite Aid Pharmacy. As an experienced tutor, I am thrilled and humbled by being able to help others achieve and surpass their academic goals.

My experience as a graduate TA has allowed me to obtain a lot of experience teaching General and Organic Chemistry. Each year I look forward to seeing the students do well in the course and often employ the use of metaphors, examples, and models in order to make chemistry less mysterious and ensure understanding of the material. My knowledge of the material allows me to explain the information simply yet adequately using basic principles. Students can then be led to build upon these basics to arrive at more complex conclusions. I genuinely enjoy teaching these subjects and enjoy seeing others learn it as well. I am a Howard University alum in Chemical Engineering and currently enrolled in the Data Science Specialization program offered by Johns Hopkins University. I've got plenty of experience tutoring Math related subjects including and up to College Algebra 1 and 2, as well as Pre-Calculus. I'm also well versed in SAT Math, so I'm interested in tutoring that as well. Experience with curriculum planning/ student assessment thanks to my stint as a Teaching Assistant in college.
