I am a graduate of Northeastern Illinois University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with Middle School endorsement in three areas. Plus, I am a certified art teacher. Since graduation, I have worked in all realms of education including teaching and tutoring with students of multiple ages and ability levels. While I tutor a broad range of subjects such as elementary reading and math, I am most passionate about art. In my experience, motivating students with positivity and using scaffolded support (building on what they know and beyond) makes for success. I am a firm proponent of lifelong learning and differentiation in regards to meeting needs of specific learners. Currently I am a certified teacher in Idaho and Illinois. I have been a 4th Grade and 2nd Grade teacher where my focus was on my student's success and building individual connections with each student to help me better understand how and why they learn. During my time as an educator, I have increased students reading scores in fluency and comprehension by 38% - 76%. Teaching is an artform that gives me the opportunity to facilitate student discovery, challenge their way of thinking, and foster a love of lifelong learning. While I am willing and eager to tutor a wide range of subjects (math, science, social studies) my passion lies in reading and writing! Developing, building, and maintaining the lifelong skills needed to be an effective reader and writer is critical in furthering a student's education. I am a strong believer that learning occurs when connections are made, and students have fun I am devoted to working with my students to give the them the support they need while leaving them with lasting connections that they can build upon.

I am an MFA graduate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I write short stories, plays and poetry in the absurdist, humorist, surrealist and fantastic traditions. As an educator I have worked with adults with learning disabilities. I have taught science, english, and history courses for K-8. I was a teaching assistant for Drawing for Animation at the college level. And I've homeschooled an 8 year old in the subjects of science, history, sorcery, and storytelling. I'm passionate about art and expression. I take time to ensure my students grasp the material. I'm tutoring English, Science, Literature, Art, Creative Writing, Drawing, Comedy, Improv, Theatre, Filmmaking, Reading Comprehension, and Animation.

I completed considerable course work in Elementary and Arts Education, and did my student teaching and artist residencies at several elementary schools in Chicago. During my student teaching I worked mainly with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders teaching all subjects but mainly focusing on writing. I am comfortable instructing large groups of students as well as working one on one. The majority of my one-on-one tutoring experience is in reading, math, and general help with homework completion for all subjects. I love working on projects, helping with homework, and having fun! I am great at catering to each child's educational needs and making sure that my students retain and understand the information we learn. I am comfortable working with children of all ages I have experience working with children with Asperger Syndrome, ADD, and ADHD. I graduated top of my class in May 2013 from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, earning my Bachelor of Fine Arts with multiple honors for my achievements in studio art. I am a recipient of several merit scholarships and fellowship awards for academic and artistic achievement. When I'm not teaching, I love running, reading, making art and cooking!

I'm a recent grad from Rice University in bioengineering with a love for science and language. I have a very wide range of academic passions, as an engineer-focused researcher who almost majored in English. I have lived in Spain for 4 months and am currently living in Costa Rica working on a 3D printed artificial leg. Through many years of classes and living abroad, my Spanish grammar is on par with, if not better than, my English grammar. I have tutored kindergarteners to grad students and everywhere between in a wide variety of subjects, including ACT test prep, and I believe that everyone is capable of learning with the right amount of patience, motivation, and strategy. In my free time I like to play sports, play board games, bake, and just adventure around.

Hi there! I'm an aspiring Physician Assistant Student. I earned my Master of Biomedical Science from Midwestern University and I am a graduate of the University of Notre Dame - Go Irish! I am excited to work with you in a variety of topics from science to Spanish and GRE writing.

I graduated from Boston University in 2012 with Electrical engineering as my major. However, I knew I also was not finished with my time as a student. I was accepted to graduate school at UCLA with a fellowshipto further my study in engineering. I spent two and a half years there completing my Masters of Science. To pay tuition, I worked as a Teaching Assistant and later a Teaching Associate for the University.Additionally, during High School and college, I spent many summers working as a Sailing Instructor. My last year I was Head Instructor at Rockland Community Sailing. This was especially rewarding for me, because this particular community sail program welcomed children of Youthlinks, a part of Broadreach Family and Community Services, aimed at serving underprivileged kids in the area. This program, and it's connection to us, allowed children who otherwise would have never have had a chance to step foot on a boat, the opportunity to learn how to sail and have an amazing summer. After that summer, I knew I wanted to get involved helping students who do not grow up with the same privileges that I did.

I am eager to help students thrive because I'm still very much a student myself, and will be for the foreseeable future. Though I enjoyed my time as an undergraduate student in Literature, and learned quite a bit during my time at Vanderbilt, there's still more work to be done. I am working towards a Master's degree, and will continue on from there.Though I am more than happy to help where needed anywhere from K-12, I am most experienced with test prep tutoring. The SAT and ACT tests can be an extremely stressful event for students, especially first time test-takers, so I do my best to go beyond the material covered by the tests and prepare students for the experience of taking the test itself, so that when the day comes, they are confident and prepared to tackle whatever challenges rise up before them.The way that I teach generally falls in line with the way that I learn best myself: discussion and collaborative explanation. When approaching difficult material, lecturing at a student leaves much to be desired. I aim to help them arrive at conclusions and realizations on their own by building on material with which they are already comfortable and confident, and working together towards a solution rather than giving the answer and expecting it to simply be memorized.Outside of academic pursuits, I enjoy many creatively-focused hobbies, primarily writing, acting, and even juggling! I am thankful for the opportunity in my time at Vanderbilt to combine all three into an annual show that not only brought smiles to the faces of a campus, but had the chance to reach out into the Nashville community and make a difference.
