I have been tutoring for close to 6 years now, and I have been fortunate to have tutored in various age groups from elementary students and fellow colleagues. I am very passionate about science and mathematics. Up to date, I have taken almost every level of mathematics from Pre-Algebra to Differential Equations, and I have a plethora of science courses in Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics.

I am a graduate of Hillsdale College in Michigan, graduating with 2 majors and 1 minor: Mathematics and Political Economy and a French minor. I've tutored and taught in many different capacities, from middle school math in Florida to English in France. I am most passionate about teaching middle and high school students math, politics, history, and economics but can also teach singing, French, Russian, and literature.I've always had an unquenchable zest for learning, and the best way to learn is to teach! As the teacher guides and directs the student, invariably the students and teachers become partners in the learning process, helping each other make new discoveries about the world. The world is fascinating, and there is no end to the richness within!

I recently retired from full-time work. I am a state-certified teacher with eight years of experience in the classroom with students in grades 6 through 12. I have five years of experience as a one-on-one tutor of math and physics for grades 6 -12, AP, ACT and SAT. I obtained a bachelor's degree in engineering and another bachelor's degree in education in the United Kingdom. I have lived for many years in the USA where I obtained my master's degree in special education. My subjects are math, physics, general science, and special education. I particularly enjoy tutoring students who need extra help to keep pace. My style is relaxed, friendly, and caring.

At the core of my teaching philosophy is a fascination with the uniqueness of other people. This approach to teaching has evolved from a passion for listening to others, and from working with students of all different ages and backgrounds, including children ages 6-18, adults, and senior citizens. It also gives me the ability to modify my teaching approach according to the needs of my students. I have enjoyed teaching private music lessons since 2016, and regularly make house calls for my students.Outside of teaching and performing, I enjoy running, reading, and spending time with friends. My favorite books include J.D Salinger's "The Catcher in the Rye", Tim O'Brien's "The Things They Carried", and Sherwood Anderson's "Winesburg, Ohio". I listen to all kinds of music, but at the forefront is classical music, as well as Radiohead and Led Zeppelin.I received my Bachelor of Music degree from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

My desire to become a tutor began after a tutor of mine personally changed by life. The general perception people have of tutors is that they are just intelligent individuals with expertise in certain areas who lecture those who do not fully understand yet. In my case, my tutor helped shape the way I see tutoring and learning itself. When I was younger I personally struggled with many subjects. My tutor was very patient with me and followed my pace and asked questions that would improve my critical thinking. Most importantly, however, she never got frustrated with me no matter how many times I had to go through certain concepts. These characteristics she exhibited has guided me to develop my tutoring philosophy Learn first, teach after."Tutoring has been a significant part of my life since I started high school. I began tutoring right away in the 9th grade to help others understand and gain valuable experience. As I moved closer to senior year I began tutoring nearly every subject to become a more holistic tutor. Senior year arrived and I was thrilled for two reasons college applications and having the opportunity to tutor all grade levels in various areas of academia. Senior year was amazing and I was blessed with being the only student who had over 100 tutoring sessions that year. I credit this success to my tutoring style, which involves asking the right questions and putting myself in the tutees state of mind and never being afraid of going slower to help the individual learn. Tutoring is not about teaching what you know it is about guiding someone through a learning experience.
