I do my best to devote my time to things I enjoy!I am a recent graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts where I received my B.F.A. in Drama with a minor in Applied Theatre. During my time at NYU, I studied at the Atlantic Acting School and the Experimental Theatre Wing, sang in a choir called Drama Cantorum, and co-founded a nationally-ranked improv team called Captain Soldier. I also spent an unforgettable semester abroad at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. Nowadays, I work with a theatre company called Grey Room NYC and a non-profit organization called Leave Out Violence. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, playing and watching basketball (Go Bulls!), enjoying funny television shows (Louie is my favorite), and playing music (guitar & piano).I consider myself blessed to have a creative mind and spirit; I always endeavor to bring this creativity into anything I do. I am a big proponent of thinking outside the box. In tutoring, my motto is "teach a student to fish and they possess improved test-taking skills for a lifetime." Specializing in ACT/SAT test preparation as well as Mathematics, I carry with me, aside from a substantial knowledge of all subjects, a "bag of tricks" made up of pneumonic devices, preparation skills, and exercises in focus/concentration. With any session, my goal is to deconstruct seemingly difficult concepts into more digestible steps -- in essence working with the student to develop a strategy that is personal to them, for any person will retain information most effectively when they are able to describe it in their own words.

Hi, my name is Michael, and I would love to support you in learning with joy and confidence.I completed my undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley, where I double majored in Economics and Business Administration while developing strong analytical and critical thinking skills along the way. While at Berkeley, I also tutored student athletes in math, economics, and statistics; guiding them to progress and excel in their studies by helping them learn the material in a way that they could easily metabolize. In the corporate world, I worked in Finance as well as Operations. In those jobs, I learned how to work effectively on a team to reach company goals, and how to train interns and entry-level employees best practices at the workplace. Outside of the job, I trained as a yoga teacher and subsequently taught a weekly class for over two years. As a yoga teacher, I learned how to create an environment of ease and relaxation, and to be able to meet students wherever they were in their practice. In addition to teaching yoga, I privately tutored students in algebra, geometry, and statistics. I helped each student I worked with gain a deeper understanding of each subject, while presenting them with possibilities on how these subjects have practical real-world applications that would be relevant to the students. After exploring classes and workshops outside of work, I fell in love with acting, and decided to embark on a new path by entering graduate school at USC to pursue my MFA in Acting. Through deep and extensive work on acting, movement, voice, and improvisation, I became a significantly more clear, compelling, and effective communicator.I have been consistently passionate about learning throughout the course of my life, and am strongly intent on sharing the gift of learning with students through tutoring. I believe that as a tutor, I not only provide effective strategies for learning and improving grades, but I can offer a unique and expansive point of view that comes from my diverse, holistic, and integrated background.I'd love to work together if we're a good match!Sincerely,Michael Khachanov

Despite graduating magna cum laude from a mechanical engineering program on a full scholarship, I didn't always like math and science. It can take a lot of effort to "click" with these kinds of subjects, but once you do, it's a surprisingly rewarding experience. (Yes, I am a huge nerd now. See photo.) You just need to break down the problems, recognize patterns, and apply the concepts. So if you're just required to take a math course and you're sick of having a panic attack every time you look at a problem, or if you're in a STEM program and you are constantly worried that you don't belong there, I can help. I can also help if you just need to review or clarify a subject.

I am a devoted tutor and life-long learner. I graduated from Indiana University Bloomington with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and minors in Theatre & Drama and Biology. I was recently accepted to medical school and will begin my MD education this fall. I have experience tutoring a broad range of subjects, including science, math, history, and English, but my personal interests lie within the sciences. I have tutored students with diverse classroom and educational needs. I find joy in tailoring specific learning strategies to each of my students to provide them with individualized and quality support. I have always enjoyed learning new things inside and outside the classroom, and I most enjoy helping others find that same curiosity and excitement especially when accompanied by the feeling of accomplishment.

I have been tutoring students in science and math for over 6 years and enjoy every moment of it! I am fully aware that no two students are the same and that various teaching modalities should be employed to ensure a strong foundation for every student, regardless of their baseline level of understanding of the subject matter.

I'm an academic by profession and a writer by habit. I have over three years of teaching experience at private tutoring companies, UC Berkeley, UC Berkeley's Summer Bridge Program, and as a freelance political science/calculus tutor (there's more overlap than you think). In 2014, my paper "Set Theory and Fuzzy Sets: Their Relationship to Natural Language" was published in the Newsletter of the American Political Science Association Organized Section for Qualitative and Multi-Method Research. I'm fond of good food and bad puns. In my free time, I wish I had more free time.

As a graduate of a top-20 national university, I know that it takes a lot of hard work to succeed in school. Sometimes, we need a little extra help to get us to that point, and I love working with students to make their success a reality! It is very important to me that I not only have a good relationship with my students, but also work with them throughout their tutoring sessions to make sure they have the confidence to succeed in school. My strategy as a tutor is to get to know the student and figure out why they are having trouble with a particular subject. Then, we will work together to build up both their knowledge base, critical thinking skills, and confidence so that the student can effectively tackle their homework and other assignments. When a student has confidence in him/herself, they have eradicated the biggest barrier to success!Aside from tutoring, my hobbies are dance and music. I grew up playing piano and performing in a variety of dance styles, and even continued dancing in college!

MCAT Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills Tutor • +6 Subjects
I graduated from Caltech in Spring of 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in English. In the fall, I plan on attending Stanford School of Medicine with the long term goal of a career in academic medicine. My teaching experience includes volunteering to tutor low income students as well as TA'ing for several introductory biology classes at Caltech. I was also a Dean's tutor in subjects such as biology and chemistry. Currently, I tutor in MCAT preparation for all three sections. I enjoy teaching all subjects, but I am most passionate about topics relating to biology, chemistry, and biochemistry. As a tutor, I focus on making the material approachable and relatable for students--after all, I believe that the most important takeaway from any tutoring session is the desire to learn more! Balance is an important part of life and, for that reason, neuroscience, tennis, photography, reading and pets are all integral parts of my life.

I am a 2013 graduate from University of California, Berkeley. My favorite subjects to study were history and social theory, which helped me earn a BA in International Development with a focus on Latin America. My interest in the culture of our southern neighbors aligned nicely with my teaching experience. After college I was placed in Nashville, TN through Teach for America where I taught 5th grade English for two years, and ran an after school program for newcomer immigrant and refugee students. In that time I learned a great deal about the craft of teaching. My biggest take away is that every student learns differently and it's imperative to create ways for students to see incremental success so that their confidence grows along with their mastery of the content. Although I am excited to tutor in a wide range of subjects, I myself love to read and write. I have a great time helping students discover a love of literature and critical thinking, whether that be through an elementary curriculum or critical reading section of the GRE! I am currently studying for LSAT, but when I do have a free moment I enjoy playing soccer and attempting to cook.
