I fully believe that my interest in the field of academic tutoring is born out of my endless pursuit of knowledge, as well as my strong interpersonal communication skills. With proper guidance, every student possesses the ability to grasp even the most complex of topics, and I have built my tutoring career on this premise. As an experienced tutor, I have continually enjoyed seeing my students achieve lofty goals under my instruction.I specialize in tutoring biology, chemistry, physics, and economics for high school students. In addition to this, I also tutor students in college level general chemistry, general biology, organic chemistry, introductory physics, economics and for the MCAT exam. I excelled in undergraduate coursework pertaining to these subjects and have prior experience in assisting pre-professional (pre-medical and pre-nursing) students looking to succeed in their required general science classes. My tutoring methodology is dependent on the establishment of a strong conceptual framework, and subsequent application of theory through practice problems (the best way to master any pure science). I frequently employ the use of problem sets and practice tests to monitor my students' progress.

I am a recent graduate of Boston University, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Secondary Social Studies Education. I have my Massachusetts teaching license for History, grades 5-12. For my student teaching practicum, I taught American History and US Government at a high school just south of Boston. I also spent four years working at the Boston University Undergraduate Admissions Office and therefore am well versed in the college application admissions process. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about History, Government, and college prep. I thoroughly enjoy working with students and feel that good learning only happens through a solid foundation of understanding if you don't understand Algebra 2, then you can't learn Calculus. Similarly, if you never learned about the Revolutionary War and the creation of the Constitution, then you can't properly learn about US Politics and Government. Additionally, I believe that a quality education is the key to not only a successful but a fulfilling and happy life. I am an avid politico and am currently working at a government affairs firm in downtown Washington, D.C; eventually I would like to have a job in education policy. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling to visit friends and family, running, hiking, and exploring Washington, D.C. Go Terriers!

I have 17 years teaching experience. I love teaching, whether it be with children or adults! It is my passion. I have experience teaching Reading, Writing, English, Elementary or Middle School Math and College Psychology and just about any grade or course in Special Education. I use an abundance of techniques from mnemonic strategies to games, tricks, reverse teaching, and so forth until I find what works for the student ! I believe everyone can learn if given a chance.I have had much success not only in teaching my students to pass their courses but in preparing them and helping them pass State and National tests. I have been told that I am a patient teacher and I like to think that is true.

I was once in the same shoes of many Varsity Tutors' students. I was struggling to learn my subjects and preparing for the SAT standardized test. I came from a rural high school (DuBois, PA) with no AP classes as well as no Honors classes. I was projected that engineering would be too difficult for me and that I should pursue something less rigorous. I ended up graduating with a Honors degree in chemical engineering and a minor in mathematics from the Pennsylvania State University. I then received a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University doing all of my research work with Sandia National Laboratories. I achieved these goals by setting high expectations for myself and striving every day to meet these expectations. I am a tutor that predominantly focuses on STEM and Business subjects from high school through graduate school as well as standardized tests. I really do not have a favorite subject here. I just enjoy teaching students who desire to learn and improve themselves. When I was an undergraduate student as well as a teaching assistant in graduate school teaching first semester students, I could take a person the night before the exam that had no clue of what was going on in class and help them achieve a B on the exam the next day. Standardized tests such as the SAT/ACT exam comprise various courses in high school and I cannot teach someone everything they need to know in one night or if a person is weeks behind in the understanding of the course material. Whether it is a standardized test or learning another subject; an assessment must be determined of where the student is currently in their understanding of the material. Next a game plan must be put together to get the student from where they are currently at to where they want to go. The fact of the matter is unless a student has always struggled in mathematics since kindergarten, they can achieve a perfect or near perfect score on the SAT/ACT mathematics section. The only traits that are required are a high level of expectations as well as the desire and effort to achieve those expectations. When it comes to solving problems, I will always ask the student on how they would solve a particular problem. Their answers can range that they definitely know how to solve it to they have absolutely no idea. I would then guide them along through each problem with the goal to have them understand a correct approach needed and to instill in the student a better understanding of the material as time goes along. As far as more information about myself, I am a person that enjoys learning and growing in all pursuits and my favorite hobby is working out and lifting weights at my local Planet Fitness. Additional Information: I am a STEM based tutor for Varsity Tutors in which I tutor everything from entry level to advanced subjects in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, all Engineering disciplines, and MBA courses. I am continuously adding both courses in an individual field as well as fields themselves to tutor. I tutor from 6th grade to graduate school as well as students with mental disabilities. I help students from inner city schools to the top boarding schools in the US to state public universities as well as the ivy league. I work with students at international universities along with international students in the US as well as adults going back to school.

I have been in education what seems like my whole life, and I love every second of it. I earned my Bachelors Degree at Nova Southeastern University in 2005 and my Master of Educational Leadership in 2010.I have been teaching for nearly 12 full years now. It's hard to believe it's gone by so fast. Every school year feels shorter! I have taught all grade levels from kindergarten through 5th grade, but I have spent the bulk of my time teaching intermediate grades. I have taught students with exceptional needs since my very first year of teaching. I have also taught English for speakers of other languages. Currently, I am an English language teacher to children in China! They live 12 hours apart from us, so I usually teach in the middle of the night or during the early morning hours when everyone else that I know is asleep! It's a great adventure!Currently, I live in Land O' Lakes with my husband and my 3 kids. My two oldest kids are in high school, and my youngest is just about to finish 4th grade. As if that wasn't enough, I'm also the mommy of 2 dogs named Shaggy and Chewie (short for Chewbacca, of course) and 3 cats named Oliver, Salem, and Sully (all named after Disney characters, ha).I'd love to get to know you and help you with any class you need practice in whether it's English and Language Arts or Math, Science or Social Studies, maybe even Espaol! I can help you with any of your learning needs. I hope I get to meet you soon so you can join me on our very own learning adventure!

Growing up under the guidance of two Ph.D. parents , I have cultivated a great appreciation of education in all forms. After attending Carnegie Mellon University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with a minor in Hispanic Studies. I went back to school and obtained a masters degree in education, with a 4.0 GPA. After graduating with my masters, I returned to graduate school, where I obtained a Ph.D. in Education, specializing in Instructional Design &; Technology, also with a 4.0 GPA.Regardless of the subject, I take a very personalized approach to tutoring, because I understand that everyone learns differently. Furthermore, I am not limited to one method/approach of teaching. If a student has difficulty understanding a concept presented in one manner, I will try to approach the material in a different way that may be easier to comprehend.

As a teacher, I have worked with preschool all the way through to 8th grade. I have seen a student during the highest moments when the 'lightbulb' goes on in his head, and I have seen the lowest moments when a student is so overwhelmed he doesn't even want to pick up his pencil to try to learn what is in front of him.Every single day holds new adventures to be had and new knowledge to be gained. I like going and doing new things. I hope I never believe that I have learned everything there is to know. For one thing, no one likes a know-it-all, and if I go into situations hoping to learn something, I am never disappointed.I hope to inspire students and friends to do the same. Arrogance, laziness, and boredom all come from the same issue- choosing not to learn from situations. I choose to learn.
