I love education and teaching in general, but have a special passion for the maths--especially Algebra. I was valedictorian of my high school class and continued my education at Princeton University where I received an A.B in Psychology. I also completed their Teacher Preparation Program with certification to teach the Sciences and Psychology in high school and middle school, as well as all levels of elementary school. After university I joined a monastery and am now an Orthodox nun. Although I have been away from teaching for several years, I'm excited to be tutoring again. My favorite teachers were the ones who loved their subject and inspired that love in their students. That is how I hope to be inspiring my own students. I strive to be available and attentive to the specific needs of each of my students.--to give them more time and explanations in their areas of difficulty and to move at a pace that is comfortable for them. And when they are ready for it, I like to challenge them a bit with interesting problems so that their knowledge of the subject matter really solidifies and they gain confidence in their understanding of it. Also, when introducing new formulas and equations, I try to help my students understand how they are derived; I believe that this knowledge helps them apply the formulas that much better.I am open to feedback and adapting my techniques to the needs of my students. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns and to schedule a lesson.

Looking for an opportunity to help kids of all ages advance in Math!I have 10 years of tutoring elementary math, middle school math, pre-algebra, and algebra I. I have worked about 5 years doing private tutoring. I also have worked about 5 years at a Math Learning Center called Mathnasium, and learned a lot about the math education process in all of this time. Most of the time, math class struggles are due to gaps in learning from previous year's math classes. Math really builds on itself from year to year.My philosophy is to help with any homework that is due, and then spend any remaining time covering concepts from previous years that may need some strengthening. For example...simpliyfing fractions will be difficult if you don't know your multiplication/division facts...so I would work on those topics if simplifying is difficult. For the younger kids, playing a game or two to break up the hour is always a great idea. Using visuals is great for any student of any age, particularly younger ones, so I will always draw/write things out, and encourage students to show all of their work. I will try to make math as fun as it can be!!

Thinking about my own experience in education, I appreciate the incredible impact that teachers have on the lives of young people. I know that teachers provide skills and knowledge used by young people throughout life. Therefore, as a teacher, my greatest aim is to be a role model. I want to cultivate open minds, the knowledge and ability to look at the world critically, and students belief in their own capacity to make positive contributions to society.

***MUST BRING OWN MATERIALS IF IT IS HOMEWORK AND I MUST BE ABLE TO REVIEW PRIOR***I am a STEM & test prep tutor with a knack for writing!Shalom! My name is Samantha but you can call me Sammie Jo or just Sammie. I was born and raised in Cleveland, OH - graduated from Strongsville High School in 2013 with a 4.3 GPA and number 30 of roughly 600 students. I have 5 brothers and sisters who are my best friends. Looking for a new adventure, I accepted my spot at the University of Miami. I was rather the major-changer at first, dropping the very competitive neuroscience program I was part of my freshman year only in exchange for curiosity in fields like math and philosophy. After that, I found my true love, chemistry. While chemistry does not have the most beautiful reputation among many, it is with no doubt what I love and thus, I decided to major in it earning a 3.7 chemistry GPA by senior year. My minors are in math and psychology, but I do have substantial knowledge in physics and philosophy.Unfortunately, I went through some health struggles and was out of school for a year and a half, still determined to get those 3 classes done and be a graduated Cane! I moved back to Cleveland for treatment and to be with my family. Miami has been incredible to allowing me to take the 3 courses I need to graduate at Case Western Reserve University so I can get 100% healthy at home. I plan to officially have a BS from the University of Miami in Chemistry with minors in math and psychology by May 2019.I am always happy to expand on any of the mentioned above, but just want to give a summary more or less and not a life story. As far as Tutoring goes, I do have substantial experience, though it is freelance. See my subjects for what I can tutor - I do specialize in math, ACT, and chemistry- I am a writer - as a hobby, I blog, but I am an excellent editor and score in the 99% percentile in any instance for writing on a test (ACT, SAT, GRE)I think that hits all the bases of how I can be available to you. I'm primarily a problem solver, so I really like to be able to look at step-by-step ways to solve a problem because it can be daunting. But, I believe in me and I believe in you! Let's do this!

My professional mission as a teacher is to motivate, encourage, inspire, and provide support to students by means of providing a secure safe and loving environment where I can help in educating them emotionally, socially, as well as cognitively. This allows them to continue to establish a foundation that they can use for their life-long learning process.I understand that parents are the primary educators for students, and that is why I believe it is imperative to build a strong parent teacher relationship. I believe that students all have the capability to be self-learners if teachers are able to build relationships with things they familiar with to connect with the concepts they are learning. Although children may have different learning styles, all children have the innate capability to learn, and I believe as an educator, it is my job to facilitate this process. As a teacher, I do feel it is necessary to focus on what's best for the student and their goals. Students will grow and develop in various areas of their education, but the key to retaining information is making the learning process an experience. If students are able to explore these topics they will experience a higher level of learning. I always establish a sense of respect with my students by being genuine, transparent, and receptive to students' ideas and opinions. Once students are able to come to an understanding, the potential for learning and growth becomes unlimited.
