I love education and teaching in general, but have a special passion for the maths--especially Algebra. I was valedictorian of my high school class and continued my education at Princeton University where I received an A.B in Psychology. I also completed their Teacher Preparation Program with certification to teach the Sciences and Psychology in high school and middle school, as well as all levels of elementary school.After university I joined a monastery and am now an Orthodox nun. Although I have been away from teaching for several years, I'm excited to be tutoring again.My favorite teachers were the ones who loved their subject and inspired that love in their students. That is how I hope to be inspiring my own students. I strive to be available and attentive to the specific needs of each of my students.--to give them more time and explanations in their areas of difficulty and to move at a pace that is comfortable for them. Looking for an opportunity to help kids of all ages advance in Math!I have 10 years of tutoring elementary math, middle school math, pre-algebra, and algebra I. I have worked about 5 years doing private tutoring. I also have worked about 5 years at a Math Learning Center called Mathnasium, and learned a lot about the math education process in all of this time. Most of the time, math class struggles are due to gaps in learning from previous year's math classes. Math really builds on itself from year to year.My philosophy is to help with any homework that is due, and then spend any remaining time covering concepts from previous years that may need some strengthening. For example...simpliyfing fractions will be difficult if you don't know your multiplication/division facts...so I would work on those topics if simplifying is difficult.For the younger kids, playing a game or two to break up the hour is always a great idea. Using visuals is great for any student of any age, particularly younger ones, so I will always draw/write things out, and encourage students to show all of their work. I will try to make math as fun as it can be!!

I was rather the major-changer at first, dropping the very competitive neuroscience program I was part of my freshman year only in exchange for curiosity in fields like math and philosophy. After that, I found my true love, chemistry. While chemistry does not have the most beautiful reputation among many, it is with no doubt what I love and thus, I decided to major in it earning a 3.7 chemistry GPA by senior year. My minors are in math and psychology, but I do have substantial knowledge in physics and philosophy.Unfortunately, I went through some health struggles and was out of school for a year and a half, still determined to get those 3 classes done and be a graduated Cane! I moved back to Cleveland for treatment and to be with my family. Miami has been incredible to allowing me to take the 3 courses I need to graduate at Case Western Reserve University so I can get 100% healthy at home. I plan to officially have a BS from the University of Miami in Chemistry with minors in math and psychology by May 2019.I am always happy to expand on any of the mentioned above, but just want to give a summary more or less and not a life story.As far as Tutoring goes, I do have substantial experience, though it is freelance.
