I am a recent graduate from Princeton University, home for the summer in the Philadelphia area. I was a Neuroscience major, and I will be pursuing my PhD in Neuroscience in the fall at Johns Hopkins. I have been tutoring high school students outside of class in college and involved in STEM academics and research mentorship as well as a translation program from and to English outside of class. I speak Japanese and French, and I have taken the PSATs, SATs, 10 APs, and the GREs successfully. I would be willing to help with any of these subjects, with math, science, and languages being more of my strong suit, and I would be willing to drive to a location as well as do online tutoring.

I received my education with the University of Michigan for my undergraduate degree of Biology with a Minor in German and four years later I completed a Masters degree in Cancer Chemical Biology with Rackham Graduate School in Ann Arbor. I am currently working towards a Doctoral Degree within the realms of Cancer Research. However, before I undertook the graduate school lifestyle, I was an English Teacher in Japan teaching kids from ages 7 to 15. It was here where I discovered that I have a latent talent for teaching. Since coming back, I have been wanting to teach once again but within the realms of my own interests; Science and Languages.Specifically I have had immense studies within the fields of Immunology, Virology, Microbiology and recently Research Sciences. To the languages I studied Spanish, German and Japanese. My favorite subjects to teach would have to be Science and Languages. My teaching philosophy and style is a bit different than most conventional teaching. Depending on the student I will bring the material to "their world" and try to bring parallels to how their own personal interests can correlate or help describe the subject at hand.Additionally my main goal is not to teach but to help lead to understanding. If the student truly understands the material at hand the brute force method of pure memorization is not needed.Outside of Academia, I have an interest within video games, nature and the Japanese martial art Aikido. An unusual combination yet, it is through them which enable me to react appropriately to any situation with a calm and curious demeanor in problem solving. To students who are considering my mentorship, I personally guarantee that I will try my best to help you understand and in the event that I do not know the answer I will be sure to follow up on any questions that I cannot answer at that time. The pursuit of knowledge is not an easy task, but I will make it my duty to make it as seamless as possible.

I am currently in my third year of my undergraduate at the University of Washington studying chemistry. One day, I hope to attain my PhD in Chemsitry as well. As a student, I have come to the realization that students don't do well in classes that are strictly lecture based. Students learn in several different ways, and I will adjust myself to those learning styles, whether auditory, visual, kinesthetic, or some combination of the three. I will commit to teaching students that are seeking furthering their minds and intelligence.Generally, I tutor students from grades K-12. The subjects I tutor are as follows: elementary math, middle school math, pre-algebra, algebra 1 and 2, physiology, science, Japanese, piano, and music theory. I really enjoy teaching piano and music theory because it just so happens to be my passion. I learned how to play the piano when I was six and have yet to stop.Apart from academia, I attempt to go outside, but I enjoy the comfort of my own home with books and tea and blankets. But when I do leave the house, I enjoy going rock climbing, walking aimlessly through parks, and trying out new restaurants. If I had a more fuel efficient car, I would spend a good deal of time going on road trips. I have also been in orchestra since freshman year of high school.

I graduated from the University of California, Riverside with a Bachelor's in Japanese and also received an Associate's of Arts in English from Crafton Hills College.I help as a substitute teacher and teacher assistant at my local Japanese Language School to help with teaching students of all ages in Japanese. In addition, I have earned a teaching certificate (TEFL). This was a 120-hour course which included a course on teaching English as a foreign language and it's structure; while it was specifically for teaching ESL, the bulk of the course focused on the methodology I would need to work as a teacher. I did this so that I can better teach Native Japanese students English, and though I love to teach Japanese the most, I felt that earning a teaching certificate was the best way to learn methods about teaching a language and helping my students as their tutor! Along the way, I learned a lot about teaching, its methods, lesson planning, and how to teach language in general. While I was in college, I decided to take Japanese because truthfully, I was curious. I'd changed my major recently and wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I ended up loving Japanese within two weeks and it became my most passionate subject.I formed the Japanese club at Crafton Hills College while I was attending. Students in varying levels of Japanese came together to have extra study time with the textbook and played practice games as well. The club was supervised by a faculty advisor, our own professor. When I transferred to UC Riverside, I'd joined an already-created Japanese club (called Sakura-Bu) where Americans and Japanese transfer students came met and practiced each other's languages together. The two clubs, collaborating with others, and my other academic experiences allowed me to learn more about Japanese, to better understand the language and help others learn too. Through making connections with others that learned or knew Japanese gave both myself and others the opportunity to practice and learn new things.I've studied Japanese for 8 years and knowing how long the process is, I've learned to also be a patient and kind tutor towards my students. I love to make it fun to learn for kids, teens, and adults alike!I love teaching Japanese to others, being engaging as much as possible, and I enjoy working with people of all ages that are curious and just as willing to learn as I am!

I'm most passionate about helping students because during my middle school and high school experience I relied heavily on outside help to do well in school. Being a student who needs a variety of teaching techniques, I understand that you need to find fun and unique ways to learn and retain what you're learning. Right now, I'm received my Bachelor's of Science degree in Physics, with a minor in Japanese and Mathematics. I am currently pursuing my Doctorate in Philosophy in Experimental Nuclear Physics at Vanderbilt University. Math and science were subjects I formerly thought I was not good at and did not enjoy, until I found teachers and tutors who got me excited me about STEM experiments and discoveries, and encouraged me to learn more. I hope that I can inspire students who feel they are not good at math and science, and therefore do not enjoy it, to learn the beauty in those subjects and enjoy what they're learning.
