When I was in ninth grade, I knew I wanted to be a teacher and coach someday. I idolized my advisor, my coaches, and favorite teachers, and hoped that I too would be able to have an iota of influence on my students and athletes down the road. I was so lucky to be surrounded by such incredible grown-ups in my life that I hoped to be like them one day. It is because of these role models that I pursued a double major in Secondary Education and English at Connecticut College. In my fifth year as an English teacher, dorm parent and coach, I decided to apply to graduate school programs to support my growth as a professional, and was accepted to Columbia University Teachers College. At TC, I was able to complete my Masters in the Arts of Teaching English in two years while working full time at a boarding school, which goes down as one of my proudest accomplishments to date!As an educator, my practice and scholarly work are focused on the belief that education is both inspiring and empowering. English as a subject is not a survey of the Western cannon or vocabulary memorization, but a comprehensive learning experience that is enhanced from the use of various media and the reading of diverse texts. My approach to mentorship, tutoring, academic coaching and instruction involves positivity, constant support, and verbal encouragement to motivate students to create their own ideas while holding them to high standards. I love working with kids and feel so grateful for the job that I have!

I am an undergraduate and graduate degree holder who has a deep passion for teaching, encouraging, mentoring and motivating youth. I spent a few years working with children between the ages of 5 and 14 years old at local elementary and middle schools in the Las Vegas Metropolitan area. I learned how to deliver lessons and create activities that allowed me to gain experience in lesson planning, writing, and delivering. This experience highlighted the importance of using positive reinforcement as well as different teaching styles to engage all students, whether individually or collectively.I am a huge proponent of engaged learning. I believe that engaged learning helps the child to be able to grasp the concept of any subject. I have been an instructional coach in the areas of middle and high school ELA, history, and science, and I was an elementary literacy specialist two years running for a summer teacher training program at a large elementary school. I have also been a high school principal, and most recently, my full-time job has been to coach high school principals around the country. My diverse experiences have given me insight into a wide range of content areas and age groups, from kids to adult learners. I am an avid test-taker and find test prep to be fascinating and - yes - fun! I've taken the LSAT and GRE; my scores were good enough to get into some pretty great schools, along with some scholarship money. I believe everyone is capable of achieving their academic goals! In my free time, I love to rock climb, and I sing with a choir. I'm also a big travel buff.

I have always loved mathematics. Someday I will obtain my PhD in that subject. My school background is rough since I was born with a hearing disability. I was not the best academically, but I was involved in soccer. This hardship increased due to procrastination. Procrastination is a nasty habit that haunts everyone. That is more reason why I should tutor others. I have a deeper understanding why students struggle in their subjects. I know where the roadblocks are and how to overcome them. I no longer have trouble hearing ever since I undergone ear surgery and changed my life dramatically. I still feel like I am playing catch up, but that seems not to be the case in all areas. Everyone is playing catch up in at least one area of study.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in International Studies, with a focus on the Francophonie from Bryn Mawr College in 2017. I have worked as an English as a Second Language teaching assistant for adult immigrants to the US, conducted journalism workshops with elementary students, and run a summer enrichment program for Togolese youth overseas. For the 2017-2018 school year, I worked as an English teaching assistant for French middle and high-school students in Romans-sur-Isere, France. I am passionate about helping students in English, Literature, and French. The daughter of an educator and a former home-schooler myself, I am willing to think outside the box to help my students learn. I live for those aha! moments when a student grasps a new concept and I try to empower my students to be lifelong learners.

I studied at Lewis & Clark College, where I graduated cum laude in Math and Physics. Since then, I've worn many hats, including math tutor, cook and farmer. Most recently, I worked at a summer camp and retreat center in Southern California, developing experiential nature programming for campers aged 7-17. I've spent over four years tutoring a range of high school and college-level math, and I believe tutoring is a balance between clarifying concepts and building strong, trusting relationships with students.
