Math and Science have been my passion since I was a little girl. I welcome the opportunity to use my knowledge to assist others in these sometimes difficult subjects.

I did my undergraduate studies at Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I received my MBA in Healthcare administration at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, MI. I have been involved in tutoring since MSU, where I held a teaching assistant position in the Foreign Language department. In more recent years, I have been working with the Big Brother/Big Sister program, tutoring students within the elementary and middle school age groups.My background in psychology gives me a greater appreciation for the various teaching techniques. Everyone learns differently and whether I am tutoring 5th grade math, psychology, or a foreign language, it is important to adapt to the student's unique way of learning, some of which may be unconventional.I grew up on two different continents (North America and Africa) which has given me very rich and diverse cultural awareness. I enjoy traveling the world and have spent time in places like Japan, Spain, Switzerland and Costa Rica.

I am an experienced former ESL teacher/tutor with my B.A. in Communications from Walla Walla University in College Place, WA, minoring in History.I have experience working with all ages and skill levels with expertise in reading, writing, editing, history, public speaking, religion, geography, and ESL. I enjoy travelling, reading, and cooking. My favorite subjects to teach are reading, writing, and speaking.My teaching philosophy is to find what interests the student and work from there to help the student improve at whatever they are having trouble with. I like to try and find a way to connect what they're learning to what they love.My hobbies include reading, writing, cooking, playing video games, and watching nerdy tv shows.Everyone I know would say that I am friendly and personable and easy to get to know and get along with.

My path to medical school was not an easy one and I have learned a lot along the way about getting the most out of studying. I believe that community care is one of the foundations for growth. Having been supported by my family and friends throughout my life, I know that I wouldn't be the person I am without their support. Through them, I was taught to always give when I have the means and I believe that is seen through my work as an educator.I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts degree in the subjects of Creative Writing and Film Studies. Currently, I am in the process of applying to graduate schools to study Art Therapy and become a professional Youth Art Therapist as I believe that early intervention and an increased focus on mental health and wellness, can lead to healthier, more communicative, emotionally mature individuals.As an educator, I believe that knowledge of a subject isn't solely what's important. Rather than simply fostering "knowing" in my students, I intend to focus on giving students the tools and skills needed to strengthen their understanding of a subject. By working with a growth mindset, I can meet students where they are and work with them to help raise their understanding. I believe that highlighting student strengths, understanding their learning style, and making the material more relatable helps to foster a better understanding of the subject matter at hand.

I am currently on staff. I teach reading and writing. I teachmore writing than reading. I love teaching. I still have a vast connectionwith many of my former students.In my spare time, I am a Prostate Cancer Advocate at the KarmanosCancer Institute for the past 15 years. I enjoy my family, traveling andlaughing. Laughing is a requirement for all of my classes.School in my opinion is a place to be. A place to have fun and learn. Aplace where you do not want to miss every opportunity to learn. Learningis fundamental.

I am excited to explore such an opportunity as it is a major interest of mine to help today's youth develop essential skills. I am a filmmaker with an interest in teaching and interacting with youth. I am very friendly but expect high effort and a positive attitude. In my eyes, every student has the ability to accomplish whatever goals they set their minds to as long as they work hard and push through obstacles.I specialize in tutoring English and reading skills, particularly in preparation for the ACT, SAT, and other standardized tests.
