I'm a retired professor who taught statistics for many years. To be a good citizen these days, you have to know a little statistics, because many people will try to convince you of many things with statistics, and you need to be able to separate the truth from the lies.

I'm a recent graduate of Case Western Reserve University with a B.A. in Biology and Cognitive Science, as well as a minor in French. I'm interested in going back to school for either environmental studies or law, but I still have some deciding to do in that regard! My tutoring experience has been varied, from helping peers with homework, assisting my young nephews and nieces with their reading and writing, to mentoring the younger students at the dance studio I used to attend. These are just some of the ways that I've learned to tutor. My favorite things to tutor are writing and algebra. Both are things that can appear complicated and difficult, but often there is only one stumbling block that a student is having a problem with. Once you isolate the issue, everything becomes simple! My tutoring style is to talk and work through a lot of practice problems together. When the student feels comfortable tackling some practice problems on their own, I know they've mastered the concept. I'm also a great listener; if you tell me that you are having a problem in a certain area of a subject, I can very much tailor the lesson and practice problems to the target area. Outside of school, I spend a lot of my time submerged in water! I love windsurfing, scuba diving, and going to the beach. I'm also a huge, huge fan of snow! I ski every chance I get, and lately I've been getting into snowboarding! When I'm just relaxing, I enjoy a good book, a hot mug of tea, and fuzzy blankets.

After that, I worked for 3 years at a special needs school working one-on-one and in groups with children and teenagers of various abilities helping them with Math, English, Art, and Gym class in Binghamton, NY. All of this training has helped me learn patience, kindness, and fairness. I believe in taking an active interest in my students and treating them as individuals. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, hiking, and exploring new places. I love going on adventures and making new friends.

I'm patient and am excited to engage people in topics and ideas and conversations relating to their academic and personal growth! Making lasting connections through learning experiences is the key!As the exclamation points display, I have a very enthusiastic and optimistic personality. I weightlift and read a lot in my free time and have a pretty eclectic music taste. However, I will be the first to admit I'm always a little behind the curve when it comes to new music, so any help in getting caught up is always appreciated.I'm always interested in meeting new people and learn about them and I think being a tutor is a great way to put on display my optimism, help someone, and learn about them at the same time!

I have had a passion for learning and teaching for as long as I can remember, and I believe that every child deserves the chance to succeed academically. I graduated from Williams College with a degree in history. Next summer, I will matriculate at Mount Sinai Medical School in New York City.I began tutoring elementary and middle school students while in high school. We worked on math, science, social studies, and English. During college, I spent a month as a teacher's assistant in a middle school English Language Learners' classroom in Portland, Maine. The summer after my freshman year at Williams, I spent three weeks in rural Tanzania teaching English to seventh grade students. This past summer, I spent eleven weeks at the same Tanzanian school teaching English to students in kindergarten through ninth grade.Everyone has a different learning style, so I am open to suggestions and flexible in my teaching style in order to ensure that each student is successful and reaches his or her academic goals. Tutoring can be a wonderful confidence booster for students, and I am eager to share my enthusiasm with my students. I look forward to working with and learning from students in the Atlanta area.

Hey there! I am Senior at the University of Southern Indiana and will be graduating this December with a major in Psychology and a minor in cognitive science. I know first hand the benefits of studying in groups while also having someone who can help make more sense of a newly learned subject. As a psychology student myself I hope to help you understand more of the current content you are learning - through activities, interaction, and thought provoking quizzes or conversation. I think of tutoring as a way for both parties to learn more within a subject and I am excited to learn more with you along the way.
