I love standardized tests. It might sound weird, but they're usually straightforward, you can sit with them for hours, and, most importantly, you CAN get better at them through practice. That's what I hope to help you do as you prepare for the LSAT, SAT, ACT or any other subject. I also have a blast editing essays, so make sure to use all of these services to their fullest potential!

AP World History Tutor • +6 Subjects

I am an Junior undergraduate student at the University of Dallas. I am pursuing a triple major in History, English, and Classics. I tutored for my high school extensively, working with students of all ages in many different subjects. My approach is generally to provide guidance for the students to work through problems themselves. I can explain concepts or material, but everything I do will be for the purpose of leading students to be able to solve problems and do classwork themselves. My favorite subject to tutor is English because I love breaking down literature and poetry, and I love helping students work through their own analysis and interpretations. That being said, I am passionate about all of the subjects I tutor in, and one of my biggest goals is to help each of my students feel some of that passion. Outside of the academic realm, I am an NCAA cross country runner, an eagle scout, and an avid outdoorsman.

I am a native of Kansas, though I have teaching experience from Australia and England. I earned my undergraduate degree in ecology & evolutionary biology from the University of Kansas, plus a master's degree in teaching from the University of Melbourne, Australia.I enjoy working with students and helping them to realize their skills. In my teaching experiences, I've often found that students who struggle with their subjects tend to feel that they simply can't learn them, or that science/math/english, etc. is not for them. While we all have liked certain subjects more than others (and interest in the subject helps!), addressing lack of confidence as well as explaining concepts in alternative ways helps students realize potential they may never have known they had.In my early school days, I suffered math anxiety. I just could not get it. It frustrated me to the point where I would give up on a problem without trying. Fortunately, I had a teacher in college who was able to identify where I was struggling, and she (patiently) worked with me to break down problems and build to progressively more complicated ones. By my sophomore year, I was able to take (and do well in!) calculus, a subject I never thought I would be able to tackle.I think the keys to my success in overcoming anxiety was my teacher's ability to not only pinpoint concepts I was struggling with, but also her willingness to calmly guide me through tasks and bring out confidence.Drawing from my experiences, I am happy to help students succeed in their science subjects.

I recently graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and a Spanish minor in Spring of 2022. I plan to attend graduate school to study immunology in a few years, but for now I'm focused on getting more research (and life) experience.I came onto the teaching scene in a bit of an unconventional way. Throughout high school, I was involved in an organization called The Faraday Society (named in honor of scientist Michael Faraday). We performed awesome chemistry demonstrations for a variety of audiences, from elementary school kids to the general public. While we enjoyed using silly skits to engage with the audience, our primary goal was always to foster enthusiasm toward science. This gave me unexpected training in how to tailor an explanation to the audience receiving the information, while also keeping their attention and helping them have fun (okay, okay... the fiery explosions might've helped a bit).During my undergraduate studies, I worked as an undergraduate teaching assistant (UTA) for the Undergraduate Biology Lab Department, teaching introductory biology labs as well as biology labs for non-biology majors. From the perspective of student and teacher, it seems that having an instructor who is enthusiastic about the material and fosters their students' curiosity can make all the difference.

I am a graduate of The University of Tulsa, where I received BA degrees in Anthropology and Sociology. While studying at Tulsa, I tutored students in several subjects including, Sociology, Anthropology, and Statistics, among others. In addition, I occasionally served as a guest lecturer at the University's introductory-level Sociology courses. I offer tutoring in SAT/ACT test prep, English, Anthropology, Sociology, and Social Studies. I enjoy most working with students on writing and revising essays in any subject. When I'm tutoring, I think it is most important to talk through issues with my students and try to ascertain how they're thinking about the problems they're trying to solve. If you're thinking about the fundamentals of a problem in the correct way, any other details will fall into place fairly easily. In addition to tutoring, I am a touring stand-up comedian. In my spare time, I enjoy competitive swimming, reading, and I also play a pretty mean MarioKart 64.

I am a graduate of Missouri State University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Finance graduating summa cum laude. While a student, my professor recommended me to tutor my classmates who were struggling in their Finance courses. Following graduation, I successfully completed the Chartered Financial Analyst exams and earned the CFA charter. These are rigorous exams that cover accounting, economics, corporate finance, and investment. After I earned the charter, I became a course instructor for the CFA review program offered by Stella. In my experience helping others, I have learned to ask questions and make connections to things a student already understands in order to build a foundation for learning new concepts. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy music, movies, hiking, and reading.

I am a graduate of the University of Kansas, with bachelor's degrees in biology and environmental studies. While I am fascinated by the natural world, I also have interests in other fields, such as literature, philosophy, and foreign languages. One of the reasons I like tutoring is because it allows me to use what I have learned in such fields to help others gain confidence in and become excited about a subject. I especially love to tutor in French, which I studied at the Universit du Havre and minored in during college.I believe that curiosity is the most important ingredient in learning. As a tutor, I ask questions to help students come to right answers on their own, and I show students how to ask their own questions as well. I believe in giving my students resources that help them continue learning after tutoring is finished and throughout their lives. In addition, using my knowledge of science, math, the arts, and the humanities, I make connections between different subjects to help my students see how what we're working on isn't so strange after all! Before beginning to work with Varsity Tutors in August of 2014, I worked in a K-8 school as an intervention math teacher. There, I tutored elementary- and middle-school students in math in small groups. Working in that setting taught me more about how to explain abstract concepts simply and creatively, and about how to use quizzes and evaluations to track student progress. During college, I helped my peers learn French both individually and in small groups; and most recently, I worked as an English language teacher in France, helping small groups of middle- and high-schoolers put their language learning into practice by organizing projects, conversations, and debates. In my free time, I like to read, write, draw, and learn about topics of interest such as Spanish and world literature.
