I am a current junior at UChicago studying towards a degree in Public Policy and Human Rights. I am a Questbridge scholar, and have experience working with students towards college readiness and college applications, especially first-generation applicants. I am also a native Spanish speaker. My goal as a tutor is to help you to recognize your own strengths and apply them to your studies.

I recently retired from full-time work. I am a state-certified teacher with eight years of experience in the classroom with students in grades 6 through 12. I have five years of experience as a one-on-one tutor of math and physics for grades 6 -12, AP, ACT and SAT. I obtained a bachelor's degree in engineering and another bachelor's degree in education in the United Kingdom. I have lived for many years in the USA where I obtained my master's degree in special education. My subjects are math, physics, general science, and special education. I particularly enjoy tutoring students who need extra help to keep pace. My style is relaxed, friendly, and caring.

I am currently a graduate student at Rush University earning my M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology with an expected graduation date of April 2023. My undergraduate degree is a B.S. in Speech and Hearing Science from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign with a minor in psychology and I graduated from here in May of 2021.While at the University of Illinois, I was a tutor for collegiate student athletes for two years! This was my first exposure to the world of tutoring and I absolutely loved it. I tutored in a wide range of subjects including English, Statistics, various sciences, and study/organizational skills. Once I began my masters program, I gained experience working with patients of all ages and wide range of language, academic, cognitive, executive functioning, and social needs. The treatment plans I create for school-aged patients are always based on their curricular and academic needs, so I have the skills to develop lesson plans appropriate to any students needs.At the end of the day, I have always loved being a student and helping others learn. I understand that everyone has their own learning styles and should be treated as the unique individual they are!

I'm 20 years old and am currently a sophomore in college. I've had an interesting childhood. I was born in Vietnam and moved to Australia when I was 6 years old. Then when I was 10, my mom, brother, and I moved to Chicago. It hasn't been easily, but through hard work, my brother and I were both Valedictorians at our high school. Now, I maintain a 4.0 GPA in college and aspire to one day become a physician. Despite my past failures and shortcomings, I strive to be the best that I can be and make my mother and brother proud. I hope to help others through tutoring and at the same time, learn more about myself and become a better listener, helper, and friend.

Looking for an opportunity to help kids of all ages advance in Math!I have 10 years of tutoring elementary math, middle school math, pre-algebra, and algebra I. I have worked about 5 years doing private tutoring. I also have worked about 5 years at a Math Learning Center called Mathnasium, and learned a lot about the math education process in all of this time. Most of the time, math class struggles are due to gaps in learning from previous year's math classes. Math really builds on itself from year to year.My philosophy is to help with any homework that is due, and then spend any remaining time covering concepts from previous years that may need some strengthening. For example...simpliyfing fractions will be difficult if you don't know your multiplication/division facts...so I would work on those topics if simplifying is difficult.For the younger kids, playing a game or two to break up the hour is always a great idea. Using visuals is great for any student of any age, particularly younger ones, so I will always draw/write things out, and encourage students to show all of their work. I will try to make math as fun as it can be!!

I aim to increase understanding and retention of information as well as developing not just the skills to solve a specific problem, but the mindset needed to then solve all future problems. Also, I try and make the process as enjoyable as possible!

I am from the United Kingdom originally where I also read law/psychology earning a JD/LLB and a PhD. My family and I have been in the US for about 10 years.I love teaching. I come from a family of teachers and educators and got my first experience in a classroom full of gifted students with learning difficulties. I have enjoyed the experience of teaching since. My experience spans community college students to undergraduate and graduate learners. I currently have about 15 Doctoral/Research students for whom I serve both as Mentor and Dissertation Chairperson.I enjoy the opportunity to be a mentor. In fact, I relish the experience and have realized that I learn as much from my students as they do from me.I am currently on a sabbatical from my university where I serve as a law professor. I am in the middle of two books on law/psychology and a science fiction novel about artificial intelligence.In my spare time, I research and write. With a penchant for classical music and horse riding, I find it useful to temper my scholarly exuberance with some distractions such as driving fast and far to clear my mind. I also operate, with some very able and committed colleagues, a Not-for-profit organization dedicated to assisting people get into gainful employment.

I studied at Taylor University (in Upland, IN) where I received a Bachelor's degree in Spanish and International Business. During my time there, I had the privilege of studying abroad for a semester in Seville, Spain, where I became fluent in Spanish and was also able to travel to Portugal and Switzerland. I worked as a tutor at my university for both Spanish and Business classes, and I also volunteered as an ESL tutor in the community. While I tutor several subjects (English, ESL, math, Spanish), I enjoy Spanish the most. I love languages, particularly Spanish, so I enjoy helping students understand it better. I strive to present the material in a way that makes most sense to each student depending on his or her learning style and ability. I played volleyball for two years in college, so I enjoy being active. Outside of tutoring, I also enjoy playing the piano, playing games with friends and family, traveling, and cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals.
