I have my BS in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where I participated in research as well as tutored and led study groups for physiology students. My approach to teaching is to help students make connections between what they already know and to understand new material. I am a recent graduate of the Brown School of Social Work with a concentration in social and economic development and a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Tufts University with a B.A. in Peace and Justice Studies and a minor in English. At Tufts and the Brown School I conducted research about educational equity, inclusion, and integration and housing justice. My Master's of Social Work informs my tutoring strategies of relationship building, motivation, and empowerment. I've always loved the teaching and tutoring opportunities I've been fortunate to have, and I've been lucky to tutor a wide age range from grade schoolers to high schoolers. I enjoy teaching multiple topics especially the social sciences, and I've had particular success coming up with creative and individualized methods to prepare students for the critical reading and the writing sections of standardized tests (including private school admission tests). I've also had a great time engaging students with English class and essay writing material, as well as coaching them through presentations and public speaking. It is exciting for me to see my students processing and thinking about new topics, and to see them become more confident in their own ideas and in their reading and writing. Through my studies I've had the opportunity to be immersed in the topics I'm passionate about and I look forward to the opportunity to share these passions for essay writing (including college admission essays), English, history, and political science. I've been lucky to have a wonderful educational experience and I want to help other students be in the best position to have their own. In my free time I love being outdoors, trying out new recipes, and reading. My guilty pleasure is getting too emotionally involved in reality TV."

A solid understanding of the basics of a subject can work wonders. It builds your confidence as a student, makes it easier to learn more difficult ideas in the future, and gives you an insight into other school subjects in ways you may not expect! My job as a tutor is to help your student grasp those basic ideas, one by one. I help my students get ahead in school by focusing our time together on mastering the most important ideas from class and homework. I guide my students through relevant examples that help them build important study skills like idea organization and identifying the parts of a problem. With enough practice, the difficult stuff gets easier and easier, and students' self-confidence blooms. Let's learn together!

I graduated from Carleton College with a BA in English and a concentration in French and Francophone Studies. At Carleton, I gained experience teaching critical thinking and writing skills through my work at a summer writing program for high school students. After graduating, I taught English at the middle school and high school levels in Lyon, France, while simultaneously improving my conversational French. I will be living in Washington DC for the summer before starting a Ph.D. program in English literature at Cornell University in the fall. I have a passion for reading, poetry, and learning. I strive to help students read and analyze for themselves, instead of worrying about finding the "right answer." This helps them learn how to think critically about the world around them so that they become more enlightened, aware, and compassionate people. I seek to help each student get the most out of their learning as well as to prepare for the next step in their education. In my tutoring sessions, I strive to understand how each individual student learns best and to develop personalized teaching strategies. My main goals are to explain concepts clearly, help students work independently, and make learning fun and fascinating. In my spare time, I like doing many forms of dance, reading novels, hiking, traveling, and eating ice cream.

I strongly believe that education is the platform to creating change on every issue on the spectrum from our economy, health issues, and civil rights for the better. Every child deserves access to an excellent education, a fair shot at reaching their full potential, and a society that welcomes change. Education goes beyond the school classroom and if given the appropriate tools, in and outside the classroom, all children can learn.Outside of teaching fifth grade full-time and part-time tutoring/babysitting I enjoy staying active by running, biking, playing soccer, reading, watching documentaries, online shopping, and spending time with friends and family.

I recently graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies and minors in Spanish and Architecture. Throughout college I worked as Co-President of my university's student group, City Faces, an after-school tutoring and mentoring program for youth in Clinton Peabody Public Housing where I developed curriculum and helped to oversee operations. I also regularly tutor students within my community in a variety of subjects ranging from math to Spanish to reading and writing. In the spring of 2014, I studied abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina where, among honing my Spanish and conducting research, I continued to work with and tutor a variety of youth. I believe that education and catering education to the unique needs of individual students is imperative. I find it so rewarding to partner with students not only to clarify tricky concepts, but to jointly develop skills and tools which can help them achieve long term success. Outside of academia, I am interested in theater, having acted, stage managed, and sung extensively though out my high school and college careers. I also enjoy going for runs and playing soccer.

I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2010 with a B.A in Women and Gender Studies. In addition to my writing-intensive major, I took a well-rounded premedical course load with some of my favorite classes being physiology, anatomy, organic chemistry and microbiology. I have always loved teaching and editing papers. My experience includes helping my sister with her anatomy and other biology classes as well as tutoring a friend in chemistry and physics. My style of tutoring is a very collaborative process with lots of time for the person I'm tutoring to ask clarifying questions . I really enjoy taking seemingly difficult topics and explaining them in a logical fashion while emphasizing the basics every step of the way. I find that students' frustration with a concept generally stems from uncertainty regarding how to organize many intersecting ideas. Nothing makes me more proud then watching a student master a formerly daunting topic. When I'm not tutoring you can either find me salsa dancing at Atomic Cowboy, making pies, soups and fresh bread in my itsy-bitsy kitchen, or working at Pi on the Delmar Loop.
