I love many things - reading, tea, drumming, my dogs - but I love teaching best. It has been my most rewarding and enjoyable endeavor. As the oldest of 5, helping with homework was a given. As recent graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University, with a BA in Physiological & Organismal Biology, I am always eager to teach and mentor others, and to share my love for lifelong learning.I have worked as a teaching assistant for several college-level biology labs (including Physiology, Ecology, and Cellular & Molecular Biology) and worked as an undergraduate research assistant in a Neuroscience & Behavior lab. As an active emergency medical technician and certified instructor, I have also spent significant time training EMT students and active EMTs in New York. I love working with students of all ages, and have tutored middle school students as well.I'd be happy to help with any of your educational needs, to identify study & learning techniques that work best for you, and to help you achieve your goals! I believe the tutor and student are partners, and that this collaboration, with a continuous and honest dialogue, can surely lead to success.I have a strong background in Biology and EMT licensure training (NREMT, CT or NY), and am also glad to assist with several other topics including, and not limited to, ACT/SAT test prep, writing, middle school coursework, and Anatomy & Physiology.

After I stopped playing college basketball, I joined the math department at SUNY Potsdam. I received my BA and MA in math, as well as my BA in computer science. The passion my professors displayed opened my eyes to my desire to become a mathematician. This, my eagerness to evolve, and the inner joy I receive from helping others when I can, led to me being passionate about educating. I am now in the final year of my PhD program in the UConn statistics department. On top of the math tutoring experience I obtained from SUNY Potsdam, I have gained further experience tutoring at UConn, on top of being the primary instructor and teaching assistant for several undergraduate statistics courses. I also tutor math and statistics for the student athlete program here at UConn. I enjoy working with my students and allowing them to dictate our sessions. I share my iPad screen so we can work through problems and visualize the process. Otherwise, I find it difficult to follow math/stat logic. Furthermore, I share the file after class so that students can reference the notes later and do not have to rush to write everything down during the session.

Hi! I'm Maddie, a senior at Yale University studying biology and Latin. I've been tutoring and advising students for the past five years and find that helping students understand and master a concept is immensely gratifying for me. My specialities include tutoring languages like Spanish and Latin and STEM fields (chemistry, biology, physics). I can also help with college test prep and essay writing, as well as general college advising. As a Classics major, I'm big into the Socratic method: leading students to the answer of a problem by asking questions at each step. More often than not, they knew the answer all along! When I'm not tutoring, I'm conducting research on bacteria in my lab, playing clarinet and writing about science.

I am a member of the University of Rochester Class of 2015, working towards a Bachelor's of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering. I have been tutoring for four years in a professional setting and seven years on a volunteer basis, specializing in math and science education. I also worked as a curriculum designer for an SAT tutoring firm. I enjoy tutoring because I am strongly against the practice of teaching to the lowest common denominator of students and I believe that every student is entitled to a teacher that will personalize their curriculum and teaching pace to make sure that the student understands the subject in a meaningful and useful way.

I graduated from the University of New Haven in May 2019 with a major in electrical engineering and a minor in mathematics. Since I am very passionate about math and science and do a lot of studying even in my spare time, it is a pleasure for me to have the opportunity to teach and share these exciting subjects with you.My most recent experience tutoring before joining Varsity Tutors was as a teaching assistant at my university for several semesters. Even when I was no longer a TA, I would still have students come to me for help with math and engineering help; some of them still do, and I'm happy to help when I have time. I received a lot of great feedback and really enjoyed working with students to help them learn challenging and interesting material, and I look forward to working with you as well.

I've loved being a middle school teacher for 25 years. My biggest joy is when a child is having fun while learning and is able to apply what they have learned to their every day lives. My strengths are in science, however, I'm certified to teach grades 4-8. I have a middle school teaching certification in CT as well as a Masters Degree in Special Education. I'm able to make any lesson fun, engaging, as well as level and age appropriate.
