I am a rising junior attending the University of Michigan, pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering. I also graduated from Covington Catholic High School (class of '20) in Park Hills, KY. Tutoring has helped me tremendously throughout my schooling career and I appreciate the role my teachers and tutors have played in my educational successes. I understand the importance of tutoring through personal experiences and I am keen to return the favor to those seeking help! While I enjoy studying many different subjects, I feel most confident in my abilities in subjects like Calculus and Physics. Most of my courses in Aerospace Engineering are focused on math and physics, so I have continuously built upon my knowledge of these topics throughout college. I am also well equipped to help with many college subjects involving aerospace, as I have recently completed four semesters of college engineering courses. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I swam competitively for 12 years of my life, so I love any activity involving a body of water. I also enjoy fishing, working out, and recently golfing.

My name is Cristian Buelna and I am a Mechanical Engineering student at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas. The reason I want to make a career in engineering is because I want to work for a company that is all about innovation in the future. I strive to use my knowledge to help humanity become more energy efficient and technologically advanced.I use my knowledge from my university physics class and my math classes to tutor people at St. Mary's University. My students let me know that I am very patient with them and that I am very helpful. I was evaluated at the end of the year by all of my students and I received a 95% approval rating. I look forward to using my skills to help students through Varsity Tutors.

I am currently a graduate student at the University of Chicago. I have been tutoring for over four years, with hundreds of hours of experience in various subjects. The reason I love being a tutor the most is because I can relate with my students. I myself once had to go through the same learning process for each subject that my students now face as well, and so I know what that feels like, and love to help guide others through it. Likewise, I truly understand where those confusions often lie, and--most importantly--how to best overcome those obstacles to reach the a proper understanding of the material at hand.A little bit more about me! I'm an avid reader of a plethora of genres, and my other hobbies include baking, playing tennis, writing poetry, and watching Star Trek reruns. I'm also involved in various cultural and human rights organizations at college. In any remaining spare time, I can usually be found reading the news on actual physical newspapers.Regarding my tutoring philosophy: as a tutor, I believe that the most important way to help my students understand their material better is by simply being there for them every step of the way. This way, students can feel comfortable making and consequently recognizing their common mistakes, which we can then work on to eventually fully grasp the material. I recognize that each person is unique and learns differently, and so I always try various learning methods to find the best technique for an individual's specific learning style that allows them to succeed the most.

Why, hello. As you've seen above, my name is Karl and I'm originally from the great Northwest. I moved out to New York originally to take advantage of an exciting opportunity to work towards the development of a safe and effective vaccine for the HIV virus. I've stayed because of the vibe of excitement and competition in the city. It truly does push you to be your best. In my free time, I enjoy exploring the ever-changing NYC landscape, stumbling about the internet learning whatever it has to teach me, studying politics both as an art and a science, as well as my guilty pleasure of watching the NFL and the occasional Newcastle game.As an HIV vaccine researcher for several years, I was taught many obscure facts and techniques. As a specialist in assay development (making up new experiments), I created even more. All of these techniques and ideas had to be passed on to the next generation of researchers, so I spent much of my time developing techniques to teach topics on which my pupil knows little to nothing to begin. Further, this information had to be passed on with no margin of error, as a single deviation between tests can render any and all data meaningless. In part through these laboratory experiences, I have learned that true understanding comes from the teaching of central concepts rather than brute-force memorization. In short, you don't learn THAT 62=3, you learn WHY 62=3, allowing you to find 82, 122, 93, and all the others (this technique can be extrapolated to many of the graduate test prep tutoring work I do).Similarly, I don't teach what the answer to a particular LSAT question might be, but rather why it is so. I don't simply warn you that question X of practice GRE Y is a trick question; I show you how it is a trick question, and teach you how to spot similar tricks in the future. Just like counting to 100 (or even 1,000,000,000) is no longer scary once you learn how the numbers are combined, so too the placement exams will lose their bite once you learn how they are constructed and how the test-makers think. The joy of using a tutor, like myself, is that I can not only show you the tricks that DID work for me, but I can also help you find the tricks that WILL work for you. The test prep books, and the cookie-cutter classrooms, must remain generic so that they can work, at least on some level, for all of the students who might read the book or take the class. With 1-on-1 tutoring, we will be able to create personalized strategies for preparing for, and eventually taking, the exam in which you are interested that are able to maximize your personal and unique set of knowledge and abilities. I look forward to helping you to find your personal path to success!- Karl

I am a graduate of Purdue University. I earned a Bachelor of Science with majors in physics, mathematics, and statistics. I am currently attending Oakland University where I earning a Master of Science in physics. I teach an introductory physics lab and perform research in the field of cosmic inflation. I tutor a wide range of physics and math topics. I believe that students learn the material best when they understand why it's true and can relate it to situations that they are familiar with. I try to connect the material to real world situations whenever possible.

*I really enjoy the one-on-one teaching experience, because I have found it rewarding to create a collaborative environment while working to make the student comfortable, confident, and inspired. I am passionate about inspiring students to want to learn in a supportive and caring environment. I am motivated to build up a student's confidence and help them to overcome anxiety! I also enjoy the challenge of stimulating bright, motivated students. I am an experienced tutor, having had many opportunities to work one-on-one with students in both a professional and an academic environment. As an undergraduate, I studied chemistry, biology, and mathematics and went on to receive a Ph.D. in mathematics and oceanography from Johns Hopkins University. Upon graduation, I taught as a tenure-track professor of mathematics at a small college in Boston. Several years ago, I moved back to the West Coast to be with family. Now I enjoy my dual career as an academic editor and tutor. My favorite aspect of teaching has always been working one-on-one with students. Because of my eclectic background in the biological, mathematical, and earth sciences, I feel comfortable working with students in a variety of subjects. Other than tutoring, I really enjoy playing violin, hiking, swimming, and cycling.

I'm Adel, a native of Atlanta, GA and graduate of Georgia Tech. I love playing basketball, football, eating all kinds of great food, catching the newest movie or new TV show and most of all, hanging out with my friends and family. I have been tutoring since my freshmen year in college a variety of subjects including Mathematics, English and Science. With my youngest brother in high school and my youngest sister in elementary school, I have constant exposure to different levels and types of academic subjects.Teaching has always been my passion and I have consistently found a good way of connecting with students. I have worked with students who are struggling to understand very difficult course material in Biochemistry, Calculus 3 and electromagnetism in Physics. I have also worked with younger students in spelling, addition, subtraction and forming basic sentences. They don't call me "Coach" in the Georgia Tech Athletic Association Learning Center for nothing.
