I graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Florida International University (FIU), where I majored in Biological Sciences and minored in Chemistry. I am currently in my gap year awaiting matriculation into medical school August of 2016. My first instructing experience was as a shooting line coach in the U.S. Navy, where patience and attention to detail served me well in improving my fellow sailor's skills. My academic instructing experience includes being a Peer Led Team Learning (PLTL) leader for science-based subjects, a Learning Assistant for Human Anatomy, and tutoring students in various subjects or for graduate school entrance exams. My favorite subjects are Biology, Physiology, Anatomy, and Biochemistry because I am intrigued by how the human body functions. I find it important to always facilitate a positive learning environment by being supportive, enthusiastic, and accessible. I enjoy teaching because it helps me better learn a subject, while connecting with people on a meaningful level as I help them succeed academically. In my spare time I enjoy playing soccer, reading, playing guitar, freediving, and travelling.

I am a current applicant in the 2013-2014 cycle for medical school candidacy. My personal goals are to go to medical school and complete my medical education to become a successful physician in the state of Georgia. I am very driven to succeed and have worked hard to achieve success thus far.I have a track record of success with the students I have worked with, and their improvements range from time management to higher scores on examinations. My tutoring methods include patience and understanding of why students are struggling and how to overcome those issues together. The moment a student comes to me and says they have improved their grades or study habits due to my help is my greatest measure of success.

My declared major was Math with a minor in chemistry. I was a volunteer tutor at my college in the math lab, and I also worked at Ft. Lupton High School/Middle School as an A.V.I.D tutor; through these experiences I am comfortable tutoring students at a variety of age/skill levels. I love learning and vieweducation as the endeavor to attain knowledge and wisdom, which is one of the highest human experiences. Tutoring any student is a great privilege and opportunity to nurture and guide individuals as they embark on the great adventure which is the advancement of their education, a task which I do not take lightly. I had to make a choice in picking my major, and I chose for it to be in the field of science. However, my strongest subject is math, although in my heart I love science, math, and literature equally!

Both my parents are retired teachers which made education a very highly valued subject in our home when I was growing up. We were encouraged not only to learn in school but to appreciate opportunities to learn and be curious in all daily activities. During my undergraduate years at Miami University where I achieved a Bachelor's Degree in Science as well as my time in medical school at Rush University Medical College where I will soon receive my Doctorate of Medicine, I have tutored fellow students as a way to help out as well as a way for me to stay sharp with tricky subjects. I believe that teaching is the best way to reinforce knowledge and master material. We all learn in different ways and I think that identifying our strengths and weaknesses as learners can help us succeed as well as know when to ask for help. Certain subjects and the methods by which they are delivered may not fit the learning style that best serves you - this is where I feel tutors can provide assistance in order to keep up your confidence and progress. I greatly enjoy teaching and tutoring in the biological and physical sciences, many levels of math, and Spanish. Also,I have taken many standardized examinations on my way to medical school and tutor in ACT, GRE and MCAT test preparation. When not tutoring, I enjoy cooking, listening to and playing music, playing soccer and basketball and spending time with my 4-year-old daughter.Learning and education are lifelong endeavors, let me help you when you need a little help or are completely lost on certain subjects. Regardless of your needs, I'll be happy to figure out your learning style as well as to listen to your goals and help you to achieve and surpass them.Take care!

I look forward to teaching and the challenge of overcoming any academic obstacles.

I am a pre-Occupational Therapy student majoring in psychology with minors in neuroscience and art. I will be graduating with honors from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in May, and I will begin Washington University School of Medicine's Doctorate of Occupational Therapy Program this Fall. My academic pursuits have made me confident in my abilities to tutor those pursing degrees in social sciences along with those pursuing careers in health care. Currently my favorite subject is neuroscience. I fell in love with it after I started college and I plan on specializing in neurorehabilitionation as an occupational therapist.I have many years of experience working with children of all ages and abilities in many settings, including previous tutoring. I also have many years of experience working with children and adults with mental and physical disabilities. These experiences have provided me with skills to develop individualized plans to help individuals achieve their goals. I have had much success when applying these skills to my tutoring plans. I have also used and developed these skills further in the research I have conducted on promoting independence in adults with Autism and early intervention programs for children with Autism. My individualized interventions in both research projects resulted in increased fine motor skills in children (increasing their independence in daily cares) and successfully preparing adults for independently working in their community. These skills are also utilized in my other job at an assisted living facility for nonverbal adults with Autism.I am very happy and willing to help anyone of any age reach their full potential and pursue any goals they possess.Contact me personally for weekend availability. Currently I will often have some availability each weekend day but the time varies due to my other job. In the future, I can schedule these shifts around tutoring sessions if you wish to meet with me on the weekends.

I believe tutoring can be an essential component of anyone's education. Having a personal, one-on-one mentor to guide you through subject material is a factor that can prove to be a difference maker in achieving at the highest level. From my experience in undergrad at Cornell University to the many test-prep classes I have taken, I feel that I am knowledgeable in science subjects and mathematics and have developed strategies to best apply these techniques to standardized tests. I look forward to working with Varsity Tutors to help others the same way I have benefited from tutoring services.

I'm a fourth year medical student at the University of Pennsylvania who is applying to pediatrics residency programs. I graduated in 2006 from Yale University with a bachelors degree in History. I subsequently completed a post-baccalaureate program at Bryn Mawr College to complete the premedical course work and matriculated into Penn's medical school. I took a year off from medical school between my third and fourth year to get a masters degree in education focusing on medical education but also learning a tremendous amount about K-12 education as well. While I plan on being a physician in the future, I know that education will play a major role in my career whether it's educating patients, medical students, or residentsHaving gone through the rigors of the college and medical school application process (including taking the required standardized tests), I'm very familiar with both the content and the test taking process. For the last two years I've served as a teaching assistant to the first year medical students in the Gross Anatomy course. During my time at Bryn Mawr I tutored students who were struggling in the basic sciences (physics, biology, chemistry and organic chemistry).I've also spent a great deal of time working with children of all ages. From my time spent as a canoeing instructor for 9-14 year old boys in Belgrade Lakes, ME to my medical school pediatrics rotations, I'm very comfortable working with people of any age (newborn through adulthood).I'm a big baseball fan, and also love being outdoors, (whether its going on a backpacking trip for a week or just a short run). I look forward to working with you in the future

I recently completed my junior year at the University of Pittsburgh, where I am pursuing degrees in Bioengineering and Economics. I am currently taking some time off from my studies to learn the ins and outs of the biomedical industry by working a Co-op in pharmaceutical engineering. While I have held several tutoring positions, my favorite experience was when I designed an interactive obstacle course demonstrating the functions of the adaptive immune system as part of the Pitt Tissue Engineering Summer Camps Initiative. The obstacle course contained everything from NERF guns to secret handshakes and is emblematic of my tutoring philosophy: I always encourage my students to visualize the course material in creative ways that stretch beyond the classroom. While I tutor numerous subjects, my personal favorites are Economics and Physiology. In my free time you'll find me running, playing soccer, reading (everything from Harry Potter to Khalil Gibran), or shooting hoops on the basketball court. One of my future goals is to ride my bike across the USA from my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio to the Pacific Ocean.

I am currently a graduate student, a Masters of Public Health candidate at Temple University concentrating in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. I have nearly ten years experience as an educator and a contagious passion and enthusiasm for teaching and learning. I am attuned to my students needs and seek to make the learning process as enjoyable and memorable as possible. What makes me a great tutor? I am as enthusiastic of a teacher as I am a student. I have been teaching and/or tutoring in some capacity since my first job at age 15. I have tutored in the areas of math, English (vocabulary and grammar), science, and social studies. As an undergrad, and a graduate, student I have often been called upon to lead study groups in various subjects. My most notable study group was for an undergrad Epidemiology class, where I created thorough and in-depth practice exams. Today, I facilitate a small writer circle/workshop for my friends every Saturday morning. I have just recently finished a 2.5 year position at The University of Pennsylvania;s Agatston Urban Nutrition Initiative where I taught nutrition and wellness, as well as some classroom gardening. I am most at home with students and am very excited by watching the light-bulb finally go off. I am a great tutor because I genuinely love to teach.
