I'm French-American, but I grew up in Berlin. In December 2012, I got my BA in Anthropology/Sociology from Mills College.I have been tutoring and teaching since 2009. From 2009 to 2011 I tutored mostly Math freelance and from 2011 to 2012 I taught French part-time at Bay Languages Academy, an after school program in Alameda. I started working with Varsity Tutors in 2013.I have always loved getting to know all of my students. Every single one has taught me so many things about learning and teaching, and I believe in return many have grown from working with me. For me, learning to work with a student is like solving a puzzle. Each student has her or his own unique set of strengths. I believe that figuring out what these are and molding the content around them is the key to good teaching. Helping students to see and to use their own strengths is the least mentioned part of the equation, but for me it is the most important, because that is how I get my kids to become autonomous and self-motivated learners. I've always seen it as a challenging job, but also as enriching, enlightening, and awesome (and I mean awesome in the strongest sense of the word)! I am so happy to be able to continue that work with Varsity.In terms of the subjects I am comfortable teaching, of course Math and French are what I have the most experience with. But I would love to be given the chance to tackle new things as well! For instance, I have an enduring love for literature and writing, and I am also completely fluent in German, having lived in Germany for fourteen years. I would love to be given the occasion to teach some German, English literature, or composition writing. I've often been my friends' informal editor!In my free time, I love to write, read, and watch movies. I love to ski, though I seldom go. I love to travel. I love to go on bike rides with friends, or sometimes just grab a book and go explore the Berkeley hills on my own. I'll sit on a tree stump and watch the sun go down and squint to see the print in my book. Oh - more than anything, I love a good conversation with a friend. But a good conversation with anyone is a treat!I hope to have the opportunity to start many good and productive conversations with parents and students through Varsity!

I received a B.A. in Environmental Science and Policy at California State University Long Beach in 2009. I began my graduate studies in 2011 where I also taught undergraduate students for a year in courses pertaining to environmental sustainability and climate change. As part of my graduate program I went from 2012-2014 to Peace Corps in Mexico helping with water projects. In June 2015 I completed my M.S. in Environmental Studies from Florida International University in Miami, Florida. Since 2015, I work at the Environmental Protection Agency and continue to volunteer with a nonprofit, Mariposas, that helps young women in Mexico. Outside of my work, I enjoy water sports, running, and music. I love science and Spanish and hope to share my enthusiasm with students!

I graduated with honors from UCLA, majoring in psychology. I spent three years as a high school math teacher and basketball coach in Washington D.C. Before that, I spent four years as a sportswriter and columnist in Los Angeles. I have worked with students of all ages from kindergarten to adulthood and am a staunch believer that it is never too late to fall in love with learning any subject (even math!). My approach to tutoring is the same way I approach training for a sport. If you are willing to put in the effort, you will get better (and if you're doing it right you can have some fun along the way).

I just graduated from Virginia Tech in May of 2015 with a bachelor's of science in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research. I was accepted into a PhD program at UC Berkeley in the same field with one of the most prestigious fellowships given to entering doctoral students. After moving to Berkeley and spending a few months in the program, I decided to take a leave and re-evaluate what I would like to do moving forward. The culture of the department was very cold, competitive, and un-supportive, and they only really valued my math skills rather than all of the other aspects of my identity. I have many other passions, including dance, theatre, drawing, teaching, cooking, and my work as an activist is very important to me. During my leave from school, I will be pursuing those passions while I decide where to go next.I started tutoring in high school as a swim instructor and Spanish tutor. Then, in college, I really found my love for teaching. For my last two years, I tutored individuals and well as groups and classes in theoretical statistics, probabilistic operations research, and statistical quality control. The feedback I got from those experiences was incredible and many students told me how much more confident in the material they were, how much easier the material seemed, and how grateful they were that they would now get through the class successfully. I had so much success as a tutor in college that a lady who worked in the main office of my department contacted me for algebra tutoring sessions because she was going back to school to get a degree, and she ended up getting an A in the class!I am qualified to tutor all levels of algebra and calculus because I use these subjects in my studies on a daily basis. I have gone far beyond high school level in both subjects; taking classes like multi-variable calculus and abstract linear algebra. When I was in high school, I got the highest possible grade (5) on the AP Calculus AB exam, and I was awarded the department of mathematics award given to only one student in my graduating class. I graduated salutatorian. I am young and fresh out of college so I can relate to your student and the material is fresh in my mind! I am very outgoing and like to make my sessions as fun and enjoyable as possible.

As a UC Berkeley graduate and community college Instructional Assistant, I have developed a passion for education and personal tutoring. Years of experience writing creatively, academically, and professionally have provided me with the skills necessary to assist students of all ages with their essays and homework. Whether the student is just getting started with brainstorming and idea development or putting the final touches on a paper and in need of help revising and editing, I am here to assist and encourage in any way possible. I believe in developing a student's skills over a period of time, rather than simply providing the short term answers simply to achieve an immediate grade. Writing is a skill we develop over the course of our lives, always learning and improving, and it is a skill we will always need, whether we're writing high school essays or cover letters for promising careers.
