Hello! I am a national merit finalist and a top 1% percentile scorer on the SAT. I am currently studying biomedical sciences in the Bs/Md program at the University of South Florida. Though I am studying medicine, I have always had a passion for tutoring. My philosophy in tutoring someone is simple: I aim to impart the same level of understanding and mastery over the subject that I have onto the student. During my K-12 education I received tutoring in various areas including ESL, music and math. In high school I began tutoring because tutoring had been a positive experience in my life. In college I majored in Biology and minored in creative writing. During my four years at Scripps I had the opportunity to gain great conceptual understanding in both the sciences and humanities.I have always had a passion for learning. My curiosity for knowledge has allowed me to study in the humanities, the sciences, and in music. Over the past six years I have had various opportunities to tutor students in these subject areas. My main goal for these students, as well as future students, is to gain conceptual understanding of the material.

I believe that gaining an understanding of a topic can transform how you view of the world and I believe we all need help sometimes to get from where we are to where we want to be.By first getting an understanding of my client's needs, I am able to patiently break down the material in a way that makes it less overwhelming and help boost their confidence by emphasizing what they already know. I am a graduate of Vanderbilt University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience and minor in Art. I am currently a student at the University of Illinois at Chicago working towards a Master in Medical Physiology. Since graduation, I have worked remotely for my lab that studies child development and applying to medical school. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about psychology and biology. My previous work experiences have included working as a teacher assistant at a preschool, a residential mentor at a high school academic summer program, and volunteering teaching science lessons in elementary and middle school classrooms.

I have personally gone through the struggle that is the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). Originally, I received a 27 on the old MCAT (60th percentile) and after studying on my own for 9 months, I was able to re-take the exam and score a 517 on the new MCAT (96th percentile). I know what it takes to do well on the exam, and I am confident that I can help many other students face this hurdle to becoming a doctor. As a peer tutor for three years in biology, general/organic chemistry, and physics during my college career, I have extensive experiencing helping others through these subjects, and I would love the opportunity to continue to tutor other students. My hobbies include piano, soccer, and art!

I am a graduate of Hardin-Simmons University. I received my Bachelor of Education Degree in Special Education and English and later received my ESL certification. I became a teacher when I was in my thirties because I wanted to make a difference in a few lives while they made a difference in my life. I believe that education is important because it opens doors and gives us choices that we would not otherwise have. It also, teaches us to think for ourselves instead of blindly following others. I have worked with students from many backgrounds from fifth grade to twelfth, and it still amazes me how great it feels to be able to watch learning happen in so many diverse and wonderful ways! In my twenty-nine years of teaching, I must say that I really enjoy what I do now because it's much like tutoring, and since my students and I are together for three years, we build a lasting bond. As an Inclusion Academic Coach, I have the privilege of going into all the classes that my students attend, so I have become familiar with many different subjects mostly between 10th-12th grades. However, my favorite subject still remains to be English. Working in Special Education has enabled me to work with just about any learning difference, so I mostly work with struggling learners whether diagnosed or just someone having a difficult time with content or in need of some extra study time. In my spare time I like crocheting (especially new patterns that people send me to try out), sewing, crafting, and traveling.
