I am a Speech Pathology major completing my master's degree at Vanderbilt University. I completed my Bachelor???s at the University of South Florida with an honors thesis on the current research in the field of linguistic relativity among bilinguals. My research interests include literacy, the relationship between cognition and language, and the history of language. My other interests include public speaking and volunteering. My goal is to become a Ph.D. researcher after I obtain my Certificate of Clinical Competence as a speech therapist. I tutor a wide variety of ages in a range of subjects, including but not limited to test preparation, latin, philosophy, and writing. I try to incorporate research-based techniques and methods into my tutoring whenever possible.

I volunteered to teach an ESL class in Israel in 1995. I have assisted in an Iowa after school tutoring program for three years. I enjoyed substitute teaching in Iowa school systems, then became a social worker for families facing challenges for two years.I was born and raised in Chicago then moved to the suburbs. I grew up playing hockey and participated in many sports in high school. I enjoy creating art and appreciating the art others create. I believe that whether someone cooks, fixes cars, listens to their friends, hangs out or any of the other billions of activities, they are expressing themselves-and that is art.When I teach-I ask questions because I be people are capable of discovering the answers. No two people learn the same way. Some people need to see it, some need to hear it, some need to just dive in and explore, some need to move around; most are some of each. I want people to do well. The first session will always contain a fair amount of getting acquainted and I promise to do my share of listening.

I received my BA in anthropology with minors in history and classics at Hunter College in New York City in 2007. A few years later, I attended LaGuardia Community College and became a licensed veterinary technician, which means I am an animal nurse!My academic interests mostly relate to animals: zoology, evolutionary ecology, paleozoology, social evolution, and phylogenetics. I also love studying history, and will always assert that nothing happens in a historical vacuum.In my free time I do a lot of reading and a lot of writing, on topics ranging from politics to science to kids' cartoons.

When I was a high school student, I thought math was a boring subject that required zero creativity and even less excitement. As I studied Physics as an undergraduate, I developed a deep appreciation for mathematics as a tool to model just about anything. I took a class called Math, Equity, and Access to Power and was inspired to become a mathematics teacher. After earning a Masters and Secondary Math Credential in California, I taught at an LAUSD school for four years. During those four years, I learned to discern when students were going to need support, what common misconceptions were, and how to best help students be successful depending on their personality and learning styles. My approach to working with your student is to help them develop an understanding of the mathematical topics they are learning in a holistic way. Your child will do more than simply practice problems, they will discuss and explain how the mathematics works. I implement strategies from Kagan and Equity and Access to help keep your child engaged and focused during a tutoring session.I believe every student has the potential to be successful in mathematics and I am excited to be a part of helping your child succeed.

For as long as I can remember, I've always loved math. Two years ago, I went back to school and began my journey towards becoming a Chemical Engineer. I have started out at Community College of Allegheny County and plan to finish my degree at the University of Pittsburgh. While at CCAC, I began to tutor students and developed a passion for it, particularly when it comes to mathematics. Exploring the language of mathematics can be incredibly fun, challenging and rewarding, this is something I always try to impart on anyone I may help. While I'm not studying you'll find me reading for pleasure or outdoors engaging in one of many activities.

During college I provided homework help and college preparation for high school students in Oakland and I worked as a literacy tutor for elementary aged children. Since graduation, I gained three years of experience as an after school program tutor leading educational games and computer-based tutoring. Even though I have a strong background in English, I can also tutor elementary to middle school math. My favorite subject to tutor is Math because understanding the basics opens up a whole new world of numbers to explore. I am very patient so I don’t mind giving my students a moment to grasp a concept or describing it in new ways until it is better understood. My philosophy is that students just need support and encouragement when they are frustrated with the problems they are trying to solve. Aside from trying to bring out the potential in students I enjoy a myriad of hobbies including playing guitar, juggling, and bowling.

I recently graduated summa cum laude from Augsburg College with a bachelors degree in Sociology and a minor concentration in Spanish. Now I am happily employed at Carleton College in Northfield as an evening supervisor in the library I love it! My plan is to eventually go on to get my Ph.D. in Sociology.Helping others learn brings me great joy, and Ive had the privilege of teaching people from a variety of ages and backgrounds. I was a supplemental instructor for the Statistical Analysis course at Augsburg College and also served as a tutor through the Academic Skills Office there. I have tutored high schoolers at the MN Internship Center and worked with students of all ages from elementary schoolers to adults at the non-profit program Safe Place: Homework Help. A particular highlight of mine is the summer I spent teaching English to adults as a certified ESL assistant at the International Education Center in downtown Minneapolis.All these experiences have helped me develop a variety of strategies to adapt to different learners needs and learning styles. I tutor a wide range of subjects, such as ACT prep, math, writing, Spanish, and Latin. Whether the math section of the ACT is making you nervous or you need some extra help keeping up in Spanish, I am confident that together, well figure out how to meet your current academic goals and develop the skills you need to face future challenges.Outside academia, I love to read I work in a library, after all!
