Six months ago I was reciting off the lyrics to the song "Thrift Shop" in front of a class of seven adult Muscovites struggling to learn English. The book we were using was dry and the vocabulary boring. All of the students were young and liked American music. So I decided to bring in a song they all liked. We spent the rest of the class discussing that one song. The next class I was presented with a host of requests that ranged from 50 Cent to Miley Cyrus.I chose this approach because I feel that learning is best internalized when a student feels like he or she can own their learning process. This means that the teacher works to facilitate guided discovery and so is in constant dialogue with the student. Those students needed to learn English in a way that was relevant to them. This approach has been informed through a year and a half teaching in Russia as well as my education. I completed my B.A. in History and International Relations from Bowdoin College. Before that I went to St. Johns School here in Houston. My interest in history and international relations definitely informs what I do outside of teaching. I love trying and cooking new foods, some with more success than others! I also play soccer and cycle quite a bit.

I am a graduate of Augustana College, where I received a Bachelor's degree, as well as Northwestern University, where I received a Master's of Science. After graduation, I worked as a research assistant at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. I have had experience in tutoring college-aged and adult students in the fields of research methods, Philosophy of Mind, and writing. I have also given informal instruction to friends with regards to math, coding, and preparation for standardized tests. I am especially interested in tutoring for Python coding, math, and test prep. As a self-taught coder, I am especially excited to see other people succeed in the field of Python. As somebody who had to learn to love math, I am excited to see students understand the workings of mathematics. Finally, as somebody who has been taking standardized tests since grade school, I enjoy helping others understand the workings of standardized tests and the skills (both academic and personal) needed to succeed at them. My teaching approach emphasizes flexibility and empathy; I firmly believe that there are always multiple ways of reaching the same solution, and I recognize that students may have different educational foundations. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, coding, and re-learning how to play the piano.

With a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, I have a solid understanding of Math and Physics. I also have a patient personality, a quality that has served well in my efforts as a tutor. I find that the key to teaching a challenging subject is identifying areas of difficulty, and explaining the underlying concepts in simple language so that the student can develop a solid foundation. I am motivated by a desire to see results and I feel very satisfied when I can help someone understand a subject they thought was difficult.Even though I find the sciences interesting, I also enjoy hobbies such as drawing, painting and reading.

I always keep in mind these important rules to approach my professional goals:1- Develop my skills: My education doesn't stop after I cross that stage and graduate. I am willing to take the extra step to keep learning what it takes to be a brilliant in my field.2- Take responsibility: Take responsibility for my actions and current situations in life. There's no one else to hold accountable for my life other than myself.3- Staying productive: The only way I am going to accomplish my goals and reach success is when I stay productive. Fill my time with productive and positive activities that will help me accomplish my goals.4- Impacting is another way to describe my future vision, making an impact wherever I go, whatever I do, and making a better difference.Tutoring would provide me a lot of tools in terms of theories, network, and also will provide a personal development enhancing my leadership skills and management level vision. It will help me become an entrepreneur and run a very successful yet professional live. It will help me sharpen other skills that I am not exposed to in daily life. It will also prepare me with the economic reality we live in today.Looking forward to help others achieve their goals through me :)

I'm originally from Houston, and I've moved back home to begin my engineering career after graduating from the University of Arizona. While I was in school, I spent time tutoring fellow students in math and logic classes. Doing this I found that I really enjoy helping people learn and overcome obstacles. After I learn a bit about my students I try to adapt my teaching style to fit their learning style, auditory/visual/etc. I strive to generate those 'lightbulb' moments, when suddenly it all clicks "everything seems so simple now!" Hopefully in the shortest amount of time possible! In my free time I enjoy playing Ultimate Frisbee with the Houston club team, amateur web development, martial arts (Kung Fu!), and cooking.

I am a native Houstonian who attended HBU, and then earned a law degree from the University of Houston. My first tutoring experience actually happened during law school, when I used a writing tutor to help me improve with my own writing. I found the experience very helpful, and was able to go on to be published in a law journal. I have also taught English as a Second language for the past two years to adults. These experiences have taught me the importance of creating a positive and encouraging learning environment, where students feel safe to express themselves and ask questions. I also try to explain concepts in multiple ways to help my student grasp the concepts.I enjoy tutoring writing and essays. Writing, both creatively and technically, is a necessary skill to succeed in today's media-centered world, and I enjoy helping my students succeed in this area.In my free time, I enjoy being active outside with sports like cycling, swimming and running. I love spending time with my little niece, reading, and listening to music.

I graduated with a degree in English Literature and a minor in Film Theory from the University of Houston Honors College Spring 2015. As a community arts organizer, English student, and tutor, I am absolutely focused on accessibility. I devote my daily life to creating an open and inviting community in which anyone is welcome. I passionately believe in our roles as lifelong learners and do not think that education should stop after a certain age or stop after a certain quota is met. No one should be made to feel that learning is unapproachable! In my "arts life," I founded a pop-up gallery devoted to a democratized sharing of art with consistent workshops, free entry, and discussion sessions. I have also spent much of my life in other countries including England, the Netherlands, and Turkey, and I prize the diverse outlook that has given me. Although my focus has been English tutoring, I extend this philosophy across school and test prep subjects. As a tutor, I approach students with an enthusiastic but professional attitude that focuses on them as individuals. I am always willing to listen and engage in discussion if something is unclear and work together with students to find answers that we both understand and believe in.
