I recently received my Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from San Diego State. I've always loved puzzles and problem solving, so naturally math and science have always been my strong suits. As a matter of fact, Calculus was, and still is, my favorite subject. As an Engineer I am also well grounded in Physics and Chemistry. I've always been a good test-taker and I know what it takes to get the grades. I know that it can make a huge difference to have some one-on-one help. I like to have fun with whatever I do, but more than anything, I want to make a difference. In my free time I love to play and listen to music or play any kinds of sports (especially ultimate frisbee).

I have a degree in marketing management but spent several years as a senior technician in both nuclear power and nuclear waste remediation. When not studying for the healthcare degree that I'm pursuing, I am learning to paint, snowboard, golf, and am also learning to play the guitar. I just graduated from the professional program at Second City which provides invaluable skills in adapting to different students' styles and for keeping things light and fun; two things which math is not famous for.

I've been teaching or tutoring in some form or another since 2004. I've tutored with nonprofit organizations such as Urban Youth Impact and Reading Partners, served as an instructor in the military overseas and as a contractor for a Fortune 500 company, and worked as a teacher in the California public school system. Through this variety of experiences, I've worked with many great educators and students, and found that everyone has a teaching and learning style that works best for them, and the key is finding a match. For myself, the most important attributes in my teaching ability are passion, patience, and perception. Bringing life to the material with creativity and insight kindles and a greater interest in the learner. Having the patience to follow the plan of execution helps the student feel at ease and puts them in a better mindset for success. Perception is crucial for understanding how a student can maximize their abilities, and which method of learning works best for them.

I am a graduate student at Cal State Northridge. I'm currently working on my M.S. in Molecular Biology working on cancer cells. I did my undergraduate at UCLA and was a Molecular Biology and Ecology major. I grew up in Southern California most of my life and went to a local high school in Woodland Hills, CA. I took AP courses such as AP calculus, government, biology and chemistry.I have been tutoring in various subjects including all levels of math, chemistry and organic chemistry, biology and social sciences since I was in high school. I have tutored after school programs in middle school, high school and college level courses. I have over 10 years of experience in tutoring. I enjoy learning and teaching all subjects, but if I were to choose one subject it would be biology. I love teaching math too. With my patience and methods of teaching, I make sure the students learn very well at their comfort levels. I do tutor all levels of biology even upper division courses such as embryology, anatomy, physiology, immunology, histology and hematology in addition to all levels of math all the way to calculus. Both my mother and father were teachers in various grade levels so I have been frequently exposed to grading papers and creating assignments and notes for students. Math and Science courses are just so fun to teach, and with my patient and diligence, I ensure students have attained the confidence to solve any problems they may face.In addition to tutoring, I have three dogs that I enjoy walking and taking to dog parks. One hobby that I just started to pick up is cooking so I am hoping to learn how to cook various foods from all of the countries in the world. I am applying for Graduate School this summer, so I can further my education in Psychology and Cultural Anthropology. My passion is listening to and working with children; and, I hope to become the kind of therapist that families, including our soldiers and veterans, will come to when they need help. While I have been working on my education, I have spent the last several years as a para-educator teaching children of immigrants in California for the "No Child Left Behind" program at an elementary school. I also edit and tutor writing composition for individual clients in middle school and high school using APA and MLA formats, focusing on good research methods, proper citing, and correct bibliography and reference pages. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Math, and test prep. I've always felt a great joy when my students experience their "aha" moment. They have just received something that belongs to them for the rest of their lives - knowledge.
