I have been teaching at the college level since 1990. I have taught courses in English, History, and Humanities. I have taught at schools all over the country, and at both single sex and co-ed institutions. I have also worked as Director of a college Writing Studio.Recently I have begun working with middle and high school aged students who are homeschooled--teaching essay writing, literature, and history online or through homeschool co-ops.I also have experience with test prep, including the SAT/ACT and entrance exams for post-college study.

I am currently an ESL teacher at Dozier Middle School in Newport News, where I teach beginning to advanced English learners. Although I am an ESL teacher, I am also certified to teach middle and high school English as well. I have collaborated in mainstream English classrooms as part of my teaching load, so I am familiar with the curriculum and expectations for all students in an English class. In my four years of teaching, I have worked with elementary, middle and high school students, including 12th grade AP English classes, 6th-8th grade English classes and even some work in summer school with 3rd-5th grade content. My point: I have a broad range of experience teaching everything related to English - whether it's phonics and learning how to read, becoming a more advanced reader in high school, learning to write basic sentences, learning to write high school essays, appreciating Shakespeare, developing public speaking skills, or acquiring vocabulary for the SAT or ACT. I am confident that I can help all students in achieving their educational goals.

I recently graduated from Christopher Newport University with my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and will graduate in May 2016 with my Masters degree in Elementary Education. My current student teaching position in a Kindergarten classroom, in addition to the many years of experience I have tutoring students on a volunteer basis, has helped me see my true passion for helping young students achieve their goals and dreams. I strongly believe all students can succeed and consider it my job to pull resources, experience, and knowledge together in order to help every student realize their fullest potential. I thoroughly enjoy tutoring students in all grades and subjects of elementary school and especially love helping students work on their reading skills, because I see reading as a way to open up a whole world of information. I have been reading for as long as I can remember, and nothing soothes me like getting lost in a good book.Writing would definitely have to be my second passion. It is also great to see students understand and succeed as they don't always realize how simple something can be when it is broken down into easier steps!I have taught middle school, high school and college level Mathematics.
