I am currently a student at Ithaca College pursuing a degree in physics. I am very passionate about math and science especially, and I have found that teaching students is another passion. I have experience tutoring high school students in areas including algebra, algebra 2 and AP Physics 1. I love working with students to help them achieve their goals, and finding exactly what teaching style works best for which students.

I received my dual bachelor’s degrees at the University of Southern California in Neurosciences and Biological Sciences. Since graduation, I have worked for two years at a USC research institute; in that time, I also developed a love for teaching. In the course of discovering this affinity, I have taught programs from the Neighborhood Academic Initiative at USC for underserved high schoolers to my most recent employment at Kaplan, Inc. Although I have extensive experience in managing and working in a classroom, I prefer to work with students one-on-one; it is more rewarding for both of us to discover strengths and weaknesses, find how our teaching and learning styles match, and see improvement. The time I have spent taking and tutoring students for standardized tests has only refined my understanding of what students need and have the most trouble with. Although I enjoy and have experience teaching a vast array of subjects (especially during my time at a graduation lab at Irving High School), I am especially drawn to the sciences, math and English. The love for the former two stems from years of education and interest in the sciences, and the latter harks even further back to my addiction to reading that I acquired in elementary school. I am a voracious reader, especially science fiction and fantasy, and many have told me that my affection for the language is infectious! My hobbies outside devouring literary delicacies include singing, playing the guitar, basketball, running, boxing and hiking.

I have been a teacher for 10 years, and I currently teach at a wonderful project-based high school in Pomona, CA where I integrate art and music into the variety of courses I teach. I have extensive experience in History, Math, English, English Language Development, and SAT prep among other subjects, but my specialty is in motivating students. I believe it is essential for a student to enjoy our tutoring sessions. I build on every success, small or large, with lots of praise, and I correct students' mistakes without judgment. Watching the light bulb come on in my student's head at that moment of understanding is priceless to me.I am also an avid snowboarder and certified snowboard instructor in the winter. When I am not on my local mountain, I enjoy basketball, volleyball, electronic music, and dancing, and I have recently begun to dabble with deejaying. I have four years of extensive experience as a language arts tutor specializing in reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, writing, and oral communication. I am also fluent in Spanish as a second language and can tutor this subject effectively.I particularly enjoy teaching students about word roots, pointing out the subtle connections between English, Spanish, and Latin as a way to recognize meanings and increase vocabulary.My goal extends well beyond merely covering the curriculum. In addition, I strive to stimulate my students' natural curiosity, enabling them to experience the pure joy of learning. I accomplish this by conversing with my students in order to find out what interests them most. Whenever possible I try to incorporate some of these topics into our sessions to make the experience more fun and interesting for them. Therefore, helping students grasp the multitude of concepts in these disciplines is a way helping them manifest their potential, and that is a worthwhile endeavor.Prior to joining Varsity Tutors, I served as a tutor for classmates in high school. For the last for four years I have also mentored middle school students through weekly meetings aimed at improving their reading skills and powers of expression. From a young age he has been inspired by mentors, teachers, Caltech, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and the nearby Griffith Observatory to continuously study the stars. Eventually he wishes to pursue a PhD in Astrophysics, hoping to advance the knowledge for all humanity. During his undergraduate career he spent most of his afternoons tutoring and assisting teachers at an Elementary school in Malibu focusing primarily on math and science.Another passion of his is volunteering for the YMCA. He has been a summer camp counselor/director for the past 7 years, and just recently became an advisor with the youth government program aimed to develop public speaking/debate skills of high school students. Through his volunteer work he has gained a great appreciation for leading the lives of youth in any capacity he can. In his free time he is a devoted hometown fan of the UCLA Bruins, Dodgers, and Lakers.
