I believe an instructor is supposed to inspire a passion for learning. Through my teachings, I impart to students that learning is less about natural talent and more about hard work and dedication. My lessons are dialogues, I have a conversation with the student to pinpoint their exact academic needs, and make not only show help them where they're having trouble, but also give them the tools to do so on their own.

The average American consumes an estimated 100,000 words each day in conversation, news articles, blog entries, social media posts, and more. I have devoted my academic and professional career to discovering how to use these units of communication to create the biggest impact, whether it be in my copywriting, teaching, or audio and video production.I recently completed my Master of Arts in Communication from Marquette University, where I taught over 300 students in undergraduate courses that cover the basics of applied research and visual communication. I guided my students on how to create informational or fundraising brochures for twenty-four local nonprofits. I also earned Marquette's unique Certificate in Digital Storytelling, a program that has allowed me to further explore how audio and video resources can be used to craft engaging stories for fundraising, education, or entertainment.Prior to this, I was the Communications Director for a new nonprofit, where I was able to increase online and in-person engagement through an established mailing list and social media accounts. I produced viral videos that received national media attention and responses from Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake (among other legislators). I analyzed the demographics of our most engaged members and targeted an ad campaign to a specific subset of women, increasing our Facebook followers by over 100% over the span of two months.I also served as the Public Information Assistant for the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors. In addition to my general duties managing the office and organizing events, I also wrote accessible press releases, doubled their Twitter followers, created step-by-step guides on how to use various web applications, and delivered concise news alerts to the entire county courthouse staff. I instructed other team members how to use the Hootsuite social media management system to schedule effective Facebook and Twitter posts that can be analyzed in terms of viewership and engagement.I crafted other digital campaigns during my work with Vertical Measures. I ghostwrote blog posts for a variety of clients using evolving SEO techniques and maintained a number of other lucrative blogs devoted to politics and popular culture. My experiences collaborating with diverse communities in Bulgaria and South Korea would invariably also be an asset to any organization committed to expanding its reach among various nationalities and ethnicities.

Biology Tutor • +13 Subjects

I have obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Developmental Psychology from the Ohio State University with honors distinction and summa cum laude. In high school, I tutored geometry, algebra I, and algebra II. In college, I was a teaching assistant in human physiology, which has many of the same foundations as biology. Throughout my years as a tutor, I have developed an immense passion for helping teach the next generations. I greatly enjoy helping others achieve their goals and learn new material. My favorite subject is biology, as that is my major and the area in which I have the most expertise. During my time teaching human physiology, I often had over 700 students per class, so I quickly learned how to tailor my tutoring and teaching to match each student's individual learning style, as not all of my 700+ students learned the exact same way. I believe that all students have unique preferred methods of learning and I like to tailor my teaching to whatever will help the student best, whether that is providing practice questions, walking the students through examples, providing mnemonic devices, or even drawing diagrams that illustrate the information. In my spare time, I enjoy workouts such as pilates and yoga, playing piano, sketching, and spending time with my pet lizard, Dina.

Analytical Chemistry Tutor • +13 Subjects

I am a graduate from the University of Pittsburgh, having received my Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences. My coursework was focused mainly in chemistry, which I earned a minor in, and was supplemented with a certificate in German Language. My primary focus is teaching Organic Chemistry. I have been a teaching assistant in both laboratory and lecture-based Organic Chemistry courses, assisted in organic synthesis research, and am very passionate about making this notoriously difficult subject easier to understand for new students. My teaching philosophy is to build a strong foundation of fundamental chemistry principles, and combine those principles to reach practical solutions to complex problems.

Algebra Tutor • +5 Subjects

I graduated from Caesar Rodney High School and became the 1st member of my immediate family to attend college when I decided to play football and major in Mathematics at the school that best suited my needs: Wesley College.Wesley's math program was small but filled with innovative professors and linked closely with an award winning chemical kinetic research department headed by renowned educator Dr. Malcolm D'Souza. The academic atmosphere encouraged constructive teamwork and helped me value virtuous collaboration and leadership skills. I studied applied and abstract mathematics while also learning pertinent information about the protocol for conducting research. The summer after my sophomore year I approached the chair of the mathematics department, Dr. Derald Wentzien, for permission to conduct an independent study about athletic participation in college. And in 2011, I begin researching Athletic Participation and itsTime Commitment as it Pertains to Academic Progress over the course of the fall semester while I lead the #3 ranked football team in Division III to our 3rd straight national semifinals appearance; the first time it had been done in its 141 year history. The following season I wrote The Art of Winning, a research study detailing the results of my findings, as well as the validity and implications of those results. I used my influence as a student-athlete, beat writer for the student newspaper The Whetstone, undergraduate researcher, and liaison for the Mathematics department to advocate for academic support and accommodations for underprivileged and underperforming students at Wesley College. I went on to accept a full scholarship to the University of Delaware's graduate education program and, in 2014, was hired by one of Delaware's most prestigious high schools, Cape Henlopen HS.I have spent the last 3 years executing rigorous versions of honors and college prep Statistics, Pre-Calculus, and Advanced Algebra. Now, I am ready to move on to the next chapter of my life.Feel free to contact me at erichgillespie93@gmail.com if you have any questions. All the best, Erich Gillespie Jr.

After many years in the computer industry, I recently decided to enrich my life by returning to one of the favorite things Ive enjoyed doing in my life teaching. I completed my undergraduate studies at Franklin and Marshall College. Upon obtaining my graduate degree (M.A.) in mathematics from Wesleyan University, I spent three years teaching math at a private high school in Stamford, CT before going to work in the private sector for IBM. Eventually I left IBM and started my own company in the computer leasing industry. Even though throughout my career I have been in mostly sales positions, I found that my teaching background proved invaluable when explaining to my clients how new technologies could benefit their organizations.I think my real world experience and my love of math, can bring a unique perspective to a student who, for whatever reason, is looking to improve his or her math skills. Whether you are struggling to grasp new concepts or looking to deepen your understanding of what you are being taught, I can help you. My approach to making math understandable is to explain many different examples to help you build confidence in your abilities and use real life applications wherever possible to keep it interesting. When Im not working I enjoy cycling, downhill and x-c skiing, hiking, and skating.
