I am reliving the process of learning that concept myself, both by explaining the concept in new ways and by seeing students wrestle with and eventually grasp the concept for themselves. For me, teaching is a way of "living vicariously" through students by experiencing the joy of learning once more.

I have been working with special needs students for over 25 years. Ever since I was asked by my 5th grade teacher to help other students in the classroom with their work I have enjoyed finding ways to increase understanding. Experiencing the "light bulb" moment with a student keeps the passion for teaching alive in my heart, and seeing students go on to succeed where they once struggled is amazing. My education and degree are in Special Education and Psychology, and my career has been spent building individualized program plans and objectives for students that meet their needs and are built on their strengths and interests. I believe that every student can learn given appropriate, high -interest teaching methods and materials delivered by a competent teacher who they trust. Students need to feel successful in order to engage in optimal learning experiences, so rapport building is key in working with children. In order to foster that feeling of early success, I use the explicit instruction model of I Do-We Do-You Do. I also borrow from Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) by using errorless teaching when introducing something new. to a student in order to keep them from making mistakes and having a negative experience. Love of life-long learning for students is built upon feeling good about their abilities and having rewarding school experiences.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Maine. I am a full-time employee at Pearson and I make the questions that go on Statewide end-of-year science assessments. Currently, I make the FCAT for Florida. In the past, I have also made the state standardized tests for Texas (STAAR), Tennessee (TCAP), Colorado (CMAS), and California (CAASSP). I have also developed for the HiSET, and AP physics exams. Since I work full-time I only tutor in the evenings after work Mon-Fri and on the weekends.About my tutoring style: I am big on explaining an idea multiple times in different ways until the concept sticks with the student. Repetition is often very helpful to students. I am a very patient tutor and make sure the student fully understands the topic before moving on. I don't want ANY student to feel like they are lost or don't get it. I will meet you where you are at and improve you from there. After working through a problem I will then summarize the ideas that we learned. I have had fantastic success with hundreds of students over the years and I plan to continue to do so. Check out my reviews for proof!

Hello! My name is Summer and I'm a current MS1 at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. During my undergraduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh, I studied Spanish and Psychology with a minor in Chemistry and concentration in the biological sciences. I have a lifelong love of learning that I hope to instill in my students! In the past, I've taught Spanish, college level Biology, Physics, Biochemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, and Organic Chemistry, with experience spanning six years. For the last year and a half, I have been tutoring the MCAT. I scored a 520 - there have been issues adding it to my VT account but I can provide documentation for those who are interested!I love breaking down content and watching students synthesize it in a way that makes sense to them. There's no better feeling than watching that "aha" moment. Together, we can establish learning strategies on an individual level and build confidence in the subject of your choice!

I am currently a junior in college in the process of finishing my Bachelor's of Mathematics with a minor in Psychology. I have been tutoring students from elementary school level to upper-level classes for chemistry and mathematics for about 5 years now. I also have experience with taking the SAT/ACT and am comfortable tutoring the Math/Science sections of standardized tests. After earning my Bachelor's degree, I plan on becoming a math teacher or full-time tutor to provide extra support for those that may need it, and will eventually go back for my Master's degree. I have slightly different approaches and methods to tutor depending on the age group/grade-level. Although I love making sure the student feels more confident with their subject knowledge, I also always try my best to make sure the person is comfortable with how I teach/present the material. Over my years of tutoring, I have experienced students of all different learning styles and capabilities. So, if someone were to be confused or struggling with how I first help them, I would "take a step back" and look at it from a different angle to find another way on how to present the material. In high school, I completed Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus Algebra/Trigonometry, AP Calculus 1, Honors Chemistry and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. So far in college, I have completed General Chemistry 1, 2, both Lab courses, Calculus 1-3, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and Numerical Analysis and have kept a 3.5 GPA so far. Although I haven't taken certain math/science courses since high school, all of the upper-level math courses I am currently enrolled in consistently incorporate the basics, so I haven't lost touch.I am always open to new suggestions, resources, and feedback from both students and parents alike. I am easy to reach and will always try my best to respond as soon as possible. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!

I graduated from Brandeis University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology on the pre-optometry track. During my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to engage in diverse research projects, including the effects of a sunscreen chemical on breast cancer progression and the relationship between diet and teen depression. Additionally, I frequently traveled to my home country of Sudan, where I volunteered in local hospitals and clinics, shadowing optometrists and other medical professionals. This experience ignited my passion for optometry, leading me to pursue a career as an eye doctor.Alongside my commitment to optometry, I have a strong passion for teaching. I teach a variety of subjects, including biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and the OAT/DAT admissions test. As an organic chemistry teaching assistant, I emphasized pattern recognition and effective study techniques, earning awards and recognition for my teaching methods. I believe that failure only occurs when one stops trying, so I strive to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and thinking creatively.I am excited to continue tutoring as I continue my journey to Optometry School at New England College of Optometry.
