I have been a personal tutor for years, and specialize in English literature/composition and test preparation. My focus is helping students gain the building blocks they need to succeed--knowing how to take a test is just as important as knowing the information! I studied Photojournalism at Point Park University, with a focus on fine art and global politics.My approach to tutoring focuses on creating independence and confidence in my clients. After completing a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with a minor in music education....I knew my mission would be teaching/tutoring. I had spent a semester in Worcester England as an exchange student studying fine arts and discovered that my love of traveling was in fact a penchant for learning. While attending many international music camps, traversing four continents and criss crossing America by car I like to impart a passion for learning to all my students. Whether it was teaching elementary school children to read, teaching business executives ESL and Spanish or the many years I ran my private piano studio in my home, enjoying the great journey of learning together is what I'm most passionate about sharing. I hike and run daily with my Beagle and am also an avid skier and yoga practitioner.

I am a recent graduate of Connecticut College where I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry, Cellular, and Molecular Biology. In August, I moved to New York City to begin my Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. While at Connecticut College I served as a peer tutor in the Biological Sciences department in both group and one-on-one settings. In my senior year, I served as the Teaching Assistant for our Genetics course. My roles as a TA included attending class meetings and facilitating discussion and problem solving sessions. I also hosted a review session every week where students could work through problems and ask questions. I enjoy tutoring a range of subjects including biology, chemistry, and English, but the sciences are definitely what I'm passionate about. I love watching students take a subject that they feel overwhelmed by and gradually master it. My tutoring style involves a lot of discussion and helping students work through obstacles. Outside of school and work, I am an avid equestrian and love to experiment baking new desserts!

I have a holistic view in terms of tutoring and teaching. All students learn in different ways such as visually, kinetically, auditorily, and other ways. I am committed to finding the best way to help my student learn the material even if it means going above and beyond the call of duty.Personally, I am a Psychology and Gender Studies double major graduating in May 2017. After that, I will be attending a masters program in mental health counseling and eventually going on to get my doctorate in clinical psychology.My skills include time management, test-taking skills, writing aid, reading comprehension, verbal and reading skills, and test preparation.

I have gone through the Air Force ROTC program at Georgia Tech these past four years, learning to lead and develop a wide range of individuals into our future leaders in the military. As an engineer, I feel that creative skills help one look outside the box to find innovative solutions to problems.I have worked at The Tutoring Club in Valrico, Florida for the past five years. While there, I was an instructor, tutor, and mentor to students ranging from pre-school to college. I have a lot of experience dealing with children of all ages with various math based school subjects. Also, I have volunteered over 400 hours helping and tutoring migrant children. I have helped develop their school, studying, and computer skills.As an instructor at The Tutoring Club in Valrico, Florida, I have taught math and science based subjects to children of all grade levels. I also have experience teaching SAT/ACT math subjects. Along with tutoring, instructing, and mentoring school children, I have also taught college students in various college level math coursesThrough my time at ROTC, I have learned to be very flexible with numerous individuals. I have had to adjust my leadership style several times in order to target specific individuals or situations. As a Flight Commander, my goal was to train, develop, lead, and mentor a flight of 30 individuals. To do so, I needed to one understand each Flight member. Each cadet offered a unique skill and had various strengths and weaknesses. With these in mind, we placed the Flight in various obstacles. I let my Flight carry out the task on their own accord. I feel that the best way for individuals and teams to develop is to let them get their boots wet. I would ensure the safety of my Flight and make sure all rules and safety precautions were taken. It would only be after they had completed such tasks that I would debrief them on what they did, how they performed, and the end result of their course of action. Overall, I allowed them to grow, build on their experiences and learn from their mistakes.

I am a graduate of Northwestern University with a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science. I am comfortable with a variety of languages including HTML/CSS, Javascript, and Python. I have also played chess competitively in the past as well as coached beginners during high school. In my free time, I enjoy playing games as well as reading.

I was honored with Teacher of the Year two years in a row at my campus, as well as District Teacher of the Year in 2017. I love figuring out how peoples' brains work and figuring out how we together can master difficult subjects. I have worked with folks at all levels of ability, and I'm special education certified, in addition to my other teaching certifications. But, also, and most importantly, learning should be FUN!!!! This led me to major in English in college and to obtain a teaching certificate for the purpose of working with young people.
