I am a recent medical school graduate, working on research and my master's degree for the next year before beginning my residency. I have some free time off, due to my classes being online, and am able to customize my tutoring sessions according to my students' learning needs and availability. I am very flexible when it comes to my teaching styles and will cater to your needs. I have been a tutor for 10 years now. I started off by tutoring middle school students in math and science, but through college and medical school I have grown in my skills and now tutor in many different subjects. After taking multiple standardized exams: SAT, MCAT, STEP 1 USMLE, and Step 2 USMLE Board exam and passing them I am very comfortable to say I will help you surpass your standardized test score goal and help in your organization skills as well. Given that I am in medical school my strong suits are math and sciences. In college, I have taken Calc and Statistics, and I have also taken a full year of Physics. I was a Biology major with a Psychology minor, therefore I offer tutoring for all Biology or Science courses up to the graduate school level and Psychology up to the undergraduate level. With all my psychology background and writing labs/ doctor write-ups, I am well-informed in Microsoft programming, Google Docs, MLA, and APA formatting. I also know how to edit programs and presentations. I recently presented at my medical school's Science Day research conference for a research project I have been working on about the statistical significance of the various COVID-19 testing methods. I hope to be a great fit for you and to be a great mentor for your future academic career!

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Psychology from the University of Toronto at Mississauga, Canada, and a Diploma in Teacher Aide from Penn Foster Online Career School.I am very passionate about teaching and learning. During my years as an undergraduate in Canada and while living and working in other locations -- Moncton, Canada, and Beijing, China, I tutored people of various ages in English as a Second Language. After obtaining my Diploma as a Teacher Aide, I assisted teachers and students in New Jersey public schools at all grade levels, as assigned. I demonstrated patience and flexibility since grade level assignments changed frequently, especially in my most recent public school job in Hoboken, New Jersey.I am especially drawn to the enthusiasm many elementary school students have for learning, based on my experience, and I especially enjoy helping them learn to read, or to read better. I am very passionate about English Language Arts and also about helping non-native speakers improve their English Language communication skills. At this point, I would like to focus on helping elementary school students, especially early elementary grade levels, learn or improve their reading skills and to grasp and appreciate English Language Arts better in general. I have always been a strong English Language Arts student and have always enjoyed this subject.Learning to communicate effectively is very important in life. Creativity and empathy are also important traits in life. Literary selections, such as novels, short stories, and poems, can help students develop or enhance these qualities. I have always enjoyed reading, and I would like to inculcate that passion in my students. As a firm believer in the importance of education and as someone who is dedicated to the profession, I strive to make tutoring a positive and enriching experience for students. I would like my students to enjoy learning for the sake of learning, and to therefore go beyond using it as a means to completing school assignments and/or passing tests and examinations. I strive to make my lessons engaging for my students by interspersing my instruction with educational and fun videos if allowed to do so.In my spare time, I enjoy reading, dancing, cooking, going for walks, swimming, and travel, amongst other creative interests. I recently relocated from New Jersey to Arizona, and my husband and I especially enjoy exploring the outdoors here.

Certified Reading Intervention Tutor • +18 Subjects

I believe that children should be taught how to think clearly, logically, independently, and critically. This can be accomplished quite effectively through a unique approach to the traditional curriculum. Reading comprehension skills, science, even the correct application of spelling rules and generalizations can be excellent ways of developing inductive logical thinking skills. And math, if taught properly, is great for developing deductive logical thinking skills. In fact, I have developed my own method for teaching elementary math which accomplishes precisely this objective, and I would relish the opportunity to teach the full program to serious, motivated students. Writing also has tremendous benefits. When one clarifies and adds precision to a particular thought one is trying to communicate, critical thinking skills are being developed. And all can be very effective ways of developing problem-solving skills.I believe that reading and spelling instruction are most effective when built upon a solid foundation of phonics. Once these phonetic skills are in place, reading ability is best developed through instruction in reading comprehension skills and through a program of extensive individualized reading. Toward that end, I sought to provide children in my classes with good literature and ample opportunity to read both fiction and nonfiction books of their choice. Indeed, as a former first grade teacher, I am familiar with many of the most fun and engaging books for beginning readers. I believe that a solid command of English grammar is vital to effective, intelligent, and coherent speaking and writing, and as a result, I gave it a great deal of attention in my classroom. I believe that the traditional but typically neglected subjects of history and geography are essential to fully understanding ourselves and our world, and I taught both in considerable depth and detail. Indeed, I believe that there is something almost sacred about history.I am dedicated and hardworking as evidenced by the fact that I was almost never absent. I prefer to interact with my students rather than simply giving uninspired assignments or mindless "busy work," because I feel that the former is more effective. I believe that a good teacher should ask questions which require thoughtful responses from minds which are actively engaged in the learning process. I set high standards for my students, and create many of my own materials including rather rigorous teacher made tests. Though I am firm and focused and require a high level of responsibility and accountability from my students, I liked to conduct my classes, when possible, with a sense of humor.I taught in the public schools for thirty-three years. Though I taught fourth grade for many years, I have also taught first grade, second grade, fifth grade, Title I Remedial Reading and Math (K-2), Title I Remedial Kindergarten, seventh grade Reading, and even served as a K-2 Mentor/Reading Specialist. I am Elementary (K-8) licensed and hold a Reading Teacher endorsement and an endorsement in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). Though I am retired, my passion for teaching remains. It is my hope that individual and small-group tutoring will allow me to experience all the joy and fulfillment that the profession of teaching was always meant to have. I look forward to using all my skills and experience to help your child to learn.

I am a graduate of MO Valley Collge where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. After that, I obtained my second degree in Early Childhood, and finally, after having my 4 children, I went back to the University of Missouri, Kansas City and earned my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. Having taught for 25 years in the public school system, I retired in December of 2018. My jobs included teaching preschool, grades 4/5/6 English and Math, Music K-6, and Art K-6. I started the Gifted and Enrichment program in the public school. As you can see, in a rural community you learn to wear many hats and I can say with confidence that I mastered each and every job that was put on my plate. I have been a mentor teacher for over 15 years and I also tutor children outside of the classroom to help improve their English. Reading and Math. Although I can teach a wide range of subjects, I am most passionate about Reading, Literature, and Math. In my experience helping struggling students prepare for Standardized Tests is most important. When I teach, I like to have fun with remarkable results. My personality and charisma make me someone you will enjoy learning from! I am a firm advocate for education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, visiting with friends and family, as well as playing with my Great Pyrenees/Poodle!I hope to see you soon!

I've loved being a middle school teacher for 25 years. My biggest joy is when a child is having fun while learning and is able to apply what they have learned to their every day lives. My strengths are in science, however, I'm certified to teach grades 4-8. I have a middle school teaching certification in CT as well as a Masters Degree in Special Education. I'm able to make any lesson fun, engaging, as well as level and age appropriate.
