I'm a recent graduate of Williams College, a small, prestigious liberal arts college in Massachusetts. I received my Bachelor of Arts in History and minored in International and Africana Studies. Due to my profound interest in Spanish, I was the recipient of a research fellowship in Guatemala and earned a Certificate from the Language Department, the latter only awarded to students who completed seven courses with a minimum of a B+ cumulative average and received an A on the proficiency exam. From my experience working as a legal intern at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and a History major, I have strong writing and research background. During my time at Williams, I also worked as a student technology consultant and a teaching assistant to a high-school summer program on campus.What makes me unique as a tutor is that I can empathize with the frustrations of learning. I am unashamed to admit that during my academic experience, I openly sought help and tutoring from peers and friends, alike. I’d sit on the torn leather seats with a book over my knees, a scratch paper and pencil and study because I knew education was the best means of pursuing my dreams. Mentors and teachers invested in me, seeing beyond my socioeconomic barriers and fanning my potential in flame. My peers that grew up down the road became my learning community, and together we worked for a better life. Now, my Bachelor’s degree in Biology hangs on my wall, and I am pursuing a career in nursing at the University of New Mexico. I am passionate about passing down what I have learned. To encourage lifelong, autonomous learning, to instill passion in others treading a similar path, and to forge the confidence required to tackle the challenging demands of higher education is ultimately my goal as a tutor. Consequently, I love to explain facts in an understandable and interesting way. Many people have told me that I am a natural teacher because I am a natural learner. My profession and education as an engineer challenges me to learn new things every day and to figure out how things work.I graduated Columbia University (Master's Mech. Engineering) and The Cooper Union (Bachelor's Mech. Engineering) both with a 3.9 GPA so I know what it's like to study hard and excel in rigorous programs. I have a BA in Organizational/Corporate Communications from Northern Illinois University, which I chose based on my lifelong love of reading and writing. I also have minors in both Spanish and Economics.I have always been an avid learner and love supporting others as they learn and expand their skills. My main experiences working with students come from my times spent as a summer school teacher, after-school tutor, and sibling homework helper.I understand that all individuals have different learning styles and that it is important to find the best ways to learn that work for you.
