I received a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from the University of Oregon and a Master of Science in Special Education from Portland State University. After receiving my Master's degree, I attended Concordia University to add Elementary Education - Multiple Subjects to my license. I've spent the last 5 years working as a Learning Specialist, designing instruction to help students master the prerequisites needed to access grade level class content. During Comprehensive Distance Learning, I taught reading, writing, and math online for 1st through 5th graders of all abilities. I've also tutored high school students in several subjects, including calculus. My vast experience working in small groups and 1:1 allows me to maximize efficiency while helping students gain skills and take pride in their hard work.

I am a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a BA in Medieval and Renaissance Studies with minors in English and History. This program also included studies in Philosophy and Theology. This was a heavy research-oriented program of study.I have done graduate work in Mental Health Counseling at Capella University.I did briefly substitute teach in the early 2000s and I was a Special Education High School Resource Math and Social Studies teacher.Currently, I am an Ordained Minister in Shamanism and a Licensed Massage Therapist. I am also a Massage Therapy Instructor. Generally, the courses I teach revolve around energy healing such as; Reiki, Aura Healing, Crystal Healing, Meditation, and Journaling.I did teach children ages 3-13 in an online program out of Beijing teaching English to Chinese children. I was a teacher in that program for nearly 4 years. I do have my TESOL and TY7 Certificates for that purpose.My first experience as a classroom teacher was at the age of 19. I went to the Montessori Education Center of the Rockies to become a Montessori Teacher. I taught a 3 to 6-year-old class in Albuquerque, NM for about 18 months before I moved out of state.I enjoy teaching others. There is so much to learn. Montessori taught me that teaching is not just the teacher pouring information into the student, rather it is about a triangle perspective that includes the teacher, the student, and the environment; each learning and affecting the other.

As an educator for many years in the classroom, as a tutor and on zoom, I have been fortunate to facilitate the education of all levels of student. My areas of expertise are language arts and math, but I have had an interest in special ed and autistic students. I have tutored for the Florida FSA tests, ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery), GED as well as general tutoring of junior high and high school students in math and language arts.

My master's degree focused on language arts and computer science and is from the Ohio State University. I have taught every grade 1-12 beginning with Title I reading, grades 1-6, second grade, third grade, and fifth grade-all self-contained, 6th grade language arts, and 5-12 special education. I also was the director at our school for the high school credit recovery program both before and after my retirement in 2015. I taught for a digital academy and worked with high school students for credit recovery. After retiring, I received an ESL certificate from VIPKID and have taught English as a second language to children 3-17. I also have worked with adults at our local library and in person with children from other countries at one of our county schools. I love working with both children and adults and have a passion for helping students succeed. Education is important for success!

I truly believe that learning is a life-long pursuit! As a current doctoral student at Endicott College in "Applied Behavior Analysis", I've taken a special interest in maximizing learning for students through individualized approaches. Though much of my experience has been with young learners with disabilities, I have worked with learners from various backgrounds and age groups, including adults. My interests are varied, but I'm most passionate about literacy development. I believe that reading skills allow learners to interact with the world in new and meaningful ways. As a doctoral student, I'm currently involved in a tele-educational research project that explores flexible teaching practices. Moreover, as a homeschool dad, I've spent a significant amount of time and energy on early reading skills with my young children. Above all, my guiding philosophy is "If a student doesn't learn the way you teach, you teach the way they learn".

I am interested in offering all student the best of success with their education. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and empowering willing minds to be the best selves they can be. Knowledge is power!
