Help; Webster's dictionary defines it as making it easier for someone to do something by offering one's services or resources. Teaching; I would define it as making it easier for someone to do something by offering one's services or resources. In my opinion, these two terms are synonymous in that they have precisely the same outcome. Help is something that I always strive to do throughout my career. Thankfully, this is something that I have been able to do in many different capacities. While I don't think I'm the smartest person, or that I'm the most gifted, one thing I am exceptional at is seeing patterns. This has allowed me to assimilate teaching styles and methods from others and use them as my own. It has allowed me to look at other leaders in the school and pull from different leadership qualities and traits. It is from the people around me and the people that have guided me that I owe my steep career trajectory to.Simply put, I just aim to help. When I teach, I feel as though I am helping people (students) understand and make sense of this world; Almost as if I'm igniting a flame, the flame of constant curiosity. When I am acting in a leadership capacity, I feel like I am helping the people (teammates) become better at their craft; On the never-ending path to improvement. My skill sets come directly from the different environments that I have been exposed to. From the low-income, poverty-stricken families in the west, to affluent, prosperous families in the east. I have taught groups of children from all walks of life, which allows me to relate to a wider scope of students than most people can. I have learned different management styles and taken advice from people that are from across the globe. This dichotomy of students and educators that I have been exposed to over the years has given me the knowledge and confidence to truly connect with people, to truly help people. I believe this connection is the key to unlocking the door of a child's intellect. This connection allows me to provide the platform of success for my educator team members.

Basic Computer Literacy Tutor • +13 Subjects

I have a passion for helping students because I have what some may call a "servant's heart." As a student myself, I understand the value of having one-on-one time with someone who's sole purpose is to help you do better. Recently, I have had the opportunity to help students as a teacher's assistant, and I absolutely loved it. It's a reward in itself to see students break through barriers and begin to understand things they previously struggled with. Although I am proudly a Tarrant County College Business Major, my favorite subject to deal with is English, so I tutor in this, as well as beginner's Spanish and Basic Computer Skills. My style of teaching is flexible because I am a visual, auditory and kinesthetic learner myself. I try to feel out which of these will help a student best, and build off of that. My philosophy is that any student can learn to love learning, as long as they have the right motivation to do so.Outside of school, I like to style outfits on a site called Polyvore. Their online community is amazing, and it's a good way for me to flex the creative side of my brain. I also spend a good amount of time listening to music, and writing short stories.

I graduated from Colgate University in 2006 with a B.A. in Psychology. I competed as a decathlete on the Varsity Track & Field Team and played club rugby while attending, which sparked an interest in personal training immediately after college. I knew that I wanted to go to medical school and would first need to complete the prerequisites, but in the time between undergrad and postbaccalaureate coursework, I worked as a personal trainer. The experience of tailoring plans for the individual and working one-on-one with a client has proved to be invaluable to me as a tutor. While completing the premedical postbaccalaureate at ASU, I tutored several classmates and lab partners in the natural and physical sciences. They are my favorite and best subjects, and I really enjoyed teaching them, because it both reinforced my understanding of the material and helped a fellow student. I received A+ marks in every subject that I tutor, and my MCAT score ranks above the 99th percentile. My tutoring style is typically relaxed and conversational. I present different methods of thinking about or attacking a problem than what the student hears from his/her teacher or professor. Sometimes a different voice is all it takes. Ultimately, I try to promote deep comprehension of the material, as well as provide tips and tricks to increase test-taking speed. Having extra time to tackle the tough problems invariably produces better results. In my free time I enjoy running, coaching youth softball and soccer, watching Yankees games, reading, and playing with my two stepdaughters.

I graduated cum laude in May of 2012 from New York University with a BA in History and a minor in Chemistry. I am currently taking a year off in-between my undergraduate coursework and medical school in order to conduct neuroscience research at the University of Arizona's Tucson campus. My diverse background in both the sciences and humanities means that I can tutor a variety of topics ranging from Literature to Organic Chemistry, including the SAT and ACT. I believe I have a talent for communicating ideas and information in various ways to help others learn. I recognized this skill in my junior year of college when I took non-traditional Organic Chemistry. This course differed from standard Organic Chemistry classes in that it was based on small ( four person) groups of students who taught each other the science that they needed to know, with lectures given only once a week. For both semesters, I led my group, initiating discussions and figuring out answers to others' questions. I learned that my greatest strength in teaching others is my ability to see things from their perspective and to tailor what I was trying to teach to that perspective. That experience taught me that anyone can learn anything, provided that she or he takes the time to work through the material and has someone willing to re-phrase and clarify things in a way that makes sense.I'd like to help you learn whatever it is you need to know in order to become the person you want to be.
