I am a junior at Johns Hopkins University studying biomedical engineering and applied mathematics. I have tutored elementary through high school students in my area in some capacity for the past four years. I am most passionate about math and science (particularly chemistry), though I am well versed in a broad range of subjects. In my spare time, I enjoy playing tennis and eating lots of good food.

I've been interested in teaching and tutoring since I was a teaching assistant in graduate school. While in grad school, I taught courses in statistics, political science, and history.My degree was in political science with a focus on statistical analysis, and I am now training to be a data scientist.For me it's a really fun challenge learning how a student sees a concept and how I can guide them to expand their understanding of it. Seeing a concept "click" with a student is one of the most rewarding feelings.

I am a Computer Science-Statistics and Psychology double major at Columbia University. I have been a tutor for three years, specializing in college-bound high school students and middle school children. While I have experience tutoring many subjects, my favorites are Statistics, Mathematics, and Computer Science. I did not discover my passion for these subjects until college (I was admitted to Columbia as pre-law for my writing), and I wish I had been exposed to the fun aspects of these subjects at younger age. Often we are discouraged from science and math while young by phrases like "I'm just not a math person," when the reality is that everybody learns math differently. These subjects are my favorite to tutor because it is incredibly rewarding to facilitate a previously-struggling student's confidence and understanding.

I am a second-year Political Science major and Mathematics minor at Northeastern University. I hail from St. Paul, Minnesota, but last year's winter here was still the worst I have ever seen. I am currently a member of the Northeastern Debate Society and International Relations Council, which includes participation in Model United Nations, and a featured columnist for the Northeastern Political Review, a student magazine. I have also previously participated in Mock Trial, Speech, Knowledge Bowl, Theater, and Band, where I played the alto saxophone. Last year, I volunteered as a tutor for SquashBusters in Boston, and I just started volunteering as an extracurricular teacher for Citizen Schools.I became a tutor for Varsity because I love being able to guide students towards success. Education is the cornerstone of our nation and our future, and if students are struggling, they absolutely deserve the help that a tutor can give them. I do not believe in teaching directly towards standardized tests; rather, I believe in giving students abilities that they can use not only to get high scores, but to help them develop stronger, more well-rounded skill sets. Things like grammar or writing skills are useful in any field, and I would love to inspire a student who hates math, as I once did, to embrace it and even study it in college. I think that every student has the potential for academic and personal greatness, and I'd be more than happy to help them realize it.

I am a rising sophomore at Emory University working towards a Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology, as well as a minor in global health, culture, and society. I tutored in multiple subject areas in high school as a peer tutor as well as a tutor to younger students in elementary and middle school. I also tutored elementary school students in multiple subject areas during my first year at Emory. I tutor in many subjects, but have always been passionate specifically about tutoring in math. I have been tutored by peers many times throughout high school and college in different subjects, including the ACT. I found unique ways to solve problems and expand my problem solving skills through this, especially because I felt as though my peers were better able to relate to me, and therefore cater to my needs as a student. My approach is catered specifically to each student by first learning how he or she best learns, and then using tactics that will benefit them the most as they learn and grow as a student.
