Ever since bringing refugee children up to and beyond grade-level mathematics while tutoring in the mid-2000s, I have always been motivated by a spirit of service to community, society, and humanity at large. Teaching and tutoring is one small but essential part of that ethos.

Growing up as the oldest of five kids, I've spent a large part of my life being a tutor for my siblings. This helped me develop my teaching skills at a young age, and served me well when I became a recitation instructor at University of Colorado Denver, teaching upper-division genetics. My year-long...

I have chosen the courses listed because I feel that these will benefit me most in my goal of being a better teacher. I have always had an interest in creative writing and the ability to use words to express so much feeling and compassion towards others and the world around me.I received my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at Kent State University where I concentrated mainly on Developmental Psychology on courses such as Child Psychopathology, Child Psychology, Adolescent Psychology and Abnormal Psychology. With this, I could gain knowledge on working with children and being able to identify behavior issues and interventions. I have always inspired to be a teacher and have held volunteer work experience placements as a tutor within the community. Before entering Graduate school at Youngstown State University, I was fortunate enough to work with adults with disabilities as a part time Support Professional. I have found myself inspired by the challenge of working with individuals with disabilities and often realized their potential and this furthered my decision and commitment to become a teacher in Special Education. Since then, I have worked with Autistic children during summer camps as well as an Instructional Reading Tutor as part of YSU. My specific courses at YSU were Introduction to Exceptionalities, Planning and Programming for Transitions, Characteristics and Behaviors, Behavior Management for Educators, Assessment for Gifted and Exceptional Children and Introduction to Educational Research.I am a highly motivated individual that sets out to achieve attainable goals and be adaptive in new environments. I maintain a positive and constructive attitude towards job detail and adequate education. I have a passion and dedication in helping promote and protect the human rights of individuals with or without intellectual and developmental disabilities while increasing awareness and involving the community in the lives of those who may have exceptional needs.

I served as an AP European History reader (grader) for 4 years. I have also lived in Germany for 4 years and enjoy travel more than anything. I enjoy one-on-one tutoring and making a difference in students' lives and futures.

I received my Bachelor's of Science in Business and Financial Management from Brooklyn College. My passion for tutoring started in high school when I began tutoring as a requirement of the National Honor Society. I continued tutoring privately when I entered college mainly for elementary aged students. Currently, I work with an after school program where I work with large groups of students with ages ranging from 4-12 years old.I love being able to help someone who is struggling to grasp a concept. This is something I believe I excel at, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to do so with Varsity Tutors!

I am a pre-medical student studying neuroscience at the University of Michigan. I have a lot of experience with tutoring elementary-aged children with various special needs, but my skills are not limited to this demographic. I love grammar, so if this is something you struggle with, particularly on the ACT, I would be a great fit. I also really enjoy math classes, and have excelled through calculus 1. My skill set goes beyond these two subjects, so look through my subject list to see if there is something else that may better suit your needs. I would love to help you out, so feel free to let me know if you would like to work with me!

I am a graduate of Prairie View A&M University. I received my Bachelors of Liberal Arts and Sciences with a specialty in English and I am currently seeking to get my Master's in Education. Since graduation, I have worked in various classroom settings across the Houston and Spring Area. Through these opportunities, I have worked with students to enhance their knowledge and skills according to the state standards. In order to achieve this goal, I implemented many strategies such as small group instruction, one-on-one instruction, and engaging activities. I am very passionate about the process of reading and writing. I believe that today's youth struggle with comprehending what they read and being able to transfer that into coherent thoughts. My experience is that when this concept is introduced through familiar concepts, it is easier for the student to process. I find great pleasure in helping students tie those pieces together and become critical thinkers. I can't wait to join you on your journey!

I am a recent graduate of American University in Washington DC. I received my BA in Political Science. Prior to attending college, I graduated from the West Windsor Plainsboro School District, so I understand how stressful and competitive academics can be in and around this area. I tutor several subjects though I am strongest in the humanities particularly in preparation for the AP European/American History exams as well as the AP American Government/Comparative Politics exams. I also offer ACT/SAT Writing, ACT/SAT Reading, SAT Verbal and ACT English tutoring. My approach to tutoring is centered on the belief that nothing is particularly difficult if you just break it down into small parts. For example, things like Advanced Placement tests and standardized tests when viewed as a whole can seem like daunting tasks which require lots of higher order reading, writing, and thinking skills. However, when they are approached question by question and broken down into series of basic tasks, they become much more manageable. In my spare time I enjoy reading, particularly nonfiction books on the areas I tutor in such as history and politics.

I attended Birmingham-Southern College for my undergraduate studies, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. After working for two years, I attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, earning a Ph.D in Genes and Development. My studies there were focused on Immunology, Cancer and Genetics. Since graduation, I have worked in the biotech industry, lectured in Microbiology and am currently doing research on vaccine development.I enjoy one on one teaching, and just discussing science in general. It's always a thrill when the light goes on for someone. I am a follower of all fields of science and technology, and try to incorporate new ideas into my work at all times. In my spare time, I build computers, read history and science fiction and go to movies with my wife.

I am a recipient of Who's Who Among America's teaching award. I love tutoring students so I can get to know them and help them improve skills in reading and math. I have been tutoring students for the last seventeen years. I have also done home-bound tutoring for students with special needs. I have been a special education teacher and love working one to one or in small groups with students I tutor. I have a Bachelor's degree in Special Education from Illinois State University, a Graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University, and another Advanced Graduate degree from Northern Illinois University as a Reading Specialist. I enjoy tutoring in writing and math, but my passion is tutoring in reading because I struggled with learning how to read when I was in school. I am passionate about helping my students improve writing, math, and reading because I struggled in school with those subjects.

I graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts. I received my Bachelors of Science in Computer Science. I was lucky enough to travel to San Fransisco, CA for a co-op before COVID-19 but, since then, I have found myself enjoying the city life of Boston, MA. I am passionate about STEM and introducing these subjects to students as early as possible. At first glance, STEM learning may seem intimidating, but early and consistent exposure is key to tackling it later on in students' learning careers. Outside of academia, I like exploring museums and pop-up exhibits. I have also found that a stroll around the neighborhood calms the busy mind and recommend it to anyone in need of a break.
