I have had long lasting tutoring experiences while attending ODU school in the following subjects: general chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, microbiology, etc. I was an undergraduate teaching assistant for organic chemistry, biochemistry, and microbiology. I have maintained a 3.9 GPA throughout my B.S degree. I have been working with so many of these subjects that I know how to make potential students master the subjects. I'm a rising senior at Washington University in St. Louis, majoring in Systems Engineering and Computer Science with a minor in Architecture. I'm currently in Virginia for a summer internship at the Langley Research Center. I started tutoring informally in high school. In recent years, I have led a weekly Calculus III study group and serve as an engineering school tutor at my university. While I tutor a variety of subjects, my favorites to work with are math and computer science. I am a recent graduate (May 2015) of Liberty University of Lynchburg, VA with a Bachelor's Degree in English. I grew up in a Christian, military, homeschooling family, and I am a life-long lover of language, learning, and discovering the world through literature and science.Coming from a Home Schooled background myself, I have enjoyed numerous benefits from having individualized, one-on-one learning relationships with my teachers (in my case, my parents) all through my K-12 experience. I have wanted to be a teacher my entire life and spent most of my childhood playing school! In 2012, I accepted my first position as a teacher and taught 8th grade students Algebra and Geometry. I spent the following two years in the same school teaching 6th, 7th and 8th graders all middle school math subjects! I love working with students and watching them grow! I enjoy working one on one because I get to know my students even better that way! My favorite subject to work with is Geometry because there are many ways to go about solving problems and many of the problems have pictures which is great for visual learners!

Reflecting on my educational experiences, I appreciate the immeasurable impact that teachers make on the lives of young people. I also realize that the skills and knowledge acquired in the classroom will be used by young people throughout life. At my present job, I am an instructor for the DOD in the radiological protection field. On days I am off work, I have been a substitute teacher for Hampton School District and during evening hours I have been a tutor for Huntington Learning Center. I am particularly interested in tutoring mathematics from high school through college level. My goal in teaching is to empower students to become leaders and have successful careers. My philosophy to tutoring promotes critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, communication skills and most importantly creativity.
