I believe all students can learn to read. Teachers must carefully assess a child's present reading process to determine both strengths and areas of need. I contend that assessment is an assistant to instruction, effective teachers meet children where they are and take them elsewhere, blending compet...

I am a graduate of The University of Texas at El Paso. I received my Bachelor in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in English Language Arts and Reading. Since graduation, I have earned my ESOL and Reading Certifications added onto my teaching degree. As a tutor, the most passionate subjects that I have taught the last 15 years as an educator; they are Reading and Writing, focusing on ESOL students and Intensive Reading students. I am a "firm, fair, and friendly," educator, that the 'student' will enjoy and eventually learn new reading strategies within my lessons. This will help improve the student's reading and writing scores at the end of the year assessments.

My educational journey began at Kent's Hill, a boarding school in Maine. I went on to pursue a degree at The University of Maine at Augusta, where I received my BA in a liberal arts degree. I later continued my educational journey by pursuing my Masters in Visual Arts from Jacksonville University. At Jacksonville University I had the opportunity to teach a figure drawing class. I have seven years of experience teaching grades 6th to 12th grade. Most recently my experience is working for the Maine public school system, as an art teacher with grades K-12. I teach studio art courses to Middle school students, while I teach High school students advance drawing, painting, sculpture, and foundational art classes. With every art student that I have mentored, I have encouraged them to explore their potential to advance skills in new mediums and push conceptual thinking.

I am a graduate of the University of Central Florida, Go Knights!! I received my Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences and my Master of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences with an emphasis on Neuroscience. Currently I am a professor at Valencia College in Central Florida where I currently teach Biology. I really enjoy teaching students this foundational course so that they are well prepared for their future courses, as many of my students would like to enter the HealthCare field. I am also currently a research assistant at the Burnett Biomedical Sciences College of Medicine Campus where I work under a wonderful PI (Principal Investigator) in the Cardiovascular Division. To me it is important to determine what the students know at first so I start off with some with questions that will let me know basically their level of understanding. Because my students plan to be involved in the HealthCare field, it is important for me that they really grasp these foundational concepts so that when they continue to level up in their courses they do not have a difficult time assimilating the material. I really enjoy teaching any of the sciences, but mostly enjoy the molecular aspect of biology.

Conversational Italian Tutor • +9 Subjects
Ciao a tutti! Hello everyone! My name is Olga and I'm Italian. I've been teaching Italian in schools and privately for many years now. I was raised in Rome where I have lived and worked for most of my life. Do you want to learn Italian in a natural way, outside the bounds of a traditional language school? Studying a foreign language is an absorbing, complex experience. It involves not only mastering new words, but also gaining a deeper understanding of the culture in which the language is rooted. To achieve this goal I devote all my enthusiasm, my skill at communication, and a sense of humor which makes for a relaxed study environment. Are you going on holiday to Italy? Do you want to reconnect with your Italian heritage and prepare for a trip to Italy? Would you like to learn the language and the culture? There are many ways to learn a language. It doesn't have to be all that complicated or hard. Everyone has a personal way to learn things and I will be able to tune into your preferred way and create customized lessons that will make it easy for you to learn the content you like at your own pace. Only those who love to teach can motivate students. A teacher must above all be a transmitter of passion rather than information. Every time you prepare an Italian lesson with love, you will win the respect of your students. Our Italian culture helps a lot in motivating them because it generates magic and beauty!

College English Tutor • +50 Subjects
I have more than 10 years of teaching and tutoring experience. I have taught students of all grade levels, from kindergarten through the college level. I have also tutored various subjects, including math, English, reading, technology and standardized test preparation. I believe all students are able to effectively learn new information and apply it to real life. All students learn differently and at different paces. Some students learn by doing, some by hearing and some by seeing. An effective tutor is able to use different teaching methods to reach each individual student. Also, the tutor must understand the strengths and weaknesses of each student to assess areas of improvement. When you pair the student with an effective tutor, then the student will gain more knowledge. This results in better grades and test scores, and a greater opportunity for success in the future.

I am a current middle school science teacher. Helping others is something that I love to do and always found myself wanting to explain something to someone that I felt needed help.Prior to becoming a teacher, I was in healthcare administration. I found that as new employees joined my team, I was selected every time to train them. Each employee that I trained later moved on and got promoted. After several years in the field, I realized that the best part of my job was "teaching" others. I later left and became a teacher.I love what I do. In my opinion, it takes a special type of person to be able to teach. Teaching involves the ability to adapt, patience, fluency with words, and empathy. Without these skills, it is difficult to be able to tutor and/or teach others and help them reach a level of understanding.I love be able to watch students reach that "ah-HA" once they have reached clarification and understanding. I look forward to working with you.
