I'm a graduate of the University of Michigan, with a BA in Environmental Studies and Philosophy. I also recently graduated with a Master of Environmental Management degree from the Yale School of the Environment in May 2020. In earning both of my degrees I gained experience with a mix of writing, humanities, and natural science that's given me a wide breadth of skills to share with students.I've also been accepted to the law schools at NYU, Columbia, and the University of Michigan, among others. I am very, very familiar with the process (and pain) of school applications, and always happy to advise on essays and application approaches.I'm trained in both SAT and LSAT prep, with three years' experience working one-on-one with students in a variety of contexts. I'm dedicated to environmental conservation and climate change advocacy-- hiking and canoeing are two of my favorite ways to spend free time. And if we get a chance to chat, be sure to ask about my bonsai collection!

Few people view standardized tests with joy or fondness. It's hard to accept that a single number, derived from hasty answers to abstract questions, can play such a huge role in your future. My own experience as test-taker and test-teacher has convinced me that as a tool for evaluating students, standardized testing has its share of flaws. But the tests aren't unfair or unbeatable; they challenge you to learn a specific language. I don't mean the fancy vocabulary you'll want in a verbal section, but the forms and patterns of the questions themselves. With thoughtful effort, any student can learn to understand the language of test-taking. As someone lucky enough to be fluent, I hope to share with others what I have gained.

I graduated in 2011 from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, as a pre-med student. After graduating, I joined Teach for America and taught biology and biomedical science in Baltimore City. During my time teaching, I also completed a Master of Science in Education at Johns Hopkins University. I am currently applying to medical schools with hopes of attending in the fall of 2015. As an aspiring physician, I have a deep love of the sciences, both physical and biological, although I have a variety of expertise in several subjects. As a teacher, and in my experience tutoring, it has always been the most exciting to me and my students when I have been able to bring the sciences to life in hands-on ways. I think that the key to a full life is lifelong learning! In my personal life, I enjoy hiking and personal fitness, comics and zombie movies, and learning spanish!

I have been a tutor for the past six years and have tutored students from kindergarten to college. I specialize in science and math but am very good at English composition and writing. Each student learns and understands differently, so I prioritize teaching in a way that suits them. That philosophy can apply to their learning style but also their lifestyle. I've found that this comprehensive approach helps students feel less intimidated and allows them to build confidence as they tackle challenging material. The process of breaking down complex concepts, improving students' performance, and self-assurance is why I love tutoring.

I developed a passion for biology at Gettysburg College while researching cell cycle control and DNA damage repair pathways in the common bread mold Aspergillus nidulans. This experience led me to pursue a PhD in Biomedical Sciences at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. I decided to start tutoring because it is the perfect opportunity for me to share my passion for science and gain valuable teaching experience. The two things that make me a great tutor are my deep understanding of biology and my ability to communicate complex concepts in ways that are easy to understand. My passion for science and education also makes my tutoring sessions a lot of fun for my students.Outside of tutoring I love being active and outside. I am desperately trying to get better at tennis in the summer and racquetball in the winter. You can also see me riding my bike around the city all year round.
