Education is the foundation of society. Humanity gains new knowledge every day, and a good mentor understands that communicating this knowledge is very important. I have tutored students of all ages in English-centered subjects, and I adore the sense of satisfaction that prospective learners gain when they fully understand a concept for the first time. My duty is to supply this satisfaction to the best of my ability. I am currently a college student at UNLV pursuing a degree in English. Outside of academia, I enjoy listening to music, as well as creating it, and I will dive into a good book, now and then. I hope to provide an optimal tutoring experience for those who seek it!

Hello, My name is Aiko and I have two major passions; education and music. Coming from a background of educators, I understand the necessity of teaching and tutoring. Seeing the position of where the value of education has been placed on the spectrum, it is imperative for us to communally bring the joy of education back to the forefront. And I believe here at Varsity Tutors is the best way to bridge that gap.

I am currently teaching math at Chaparral high school. The subjects I taught for the past three years include Algebra I, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus and College preparatory math. Overall I have been working in academic areas for the last 10 years studying, teaching and tutoring. I know how to help students in their specific subject related problems as well as improving study skills. I became interested in tutoring after I graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD). I wanted to move to Las Vegas, Nevada after I graduated and I decided to take advantage of the opportunity I had to work with Varsity Tutors. I graduated with a double major in Communication and Philosophy with an emphasis on Applied Ethics. Ever since I started my Communication program at UMD, I have been fascinated by the importance and influence of effective communication both through interpersonal interactions and through writing. In addition, I've gained an interest in public speaking and learning how to do it effectively since it is such a big challenge. When it comes to tutoring others, I know it is paramount to recognize each individual's personal strengths and background knowledge in order to most effectively help them advance. Because of this, I find it important to cultivate and develop these personal strengths to help bring it out in their projects. This is what I keep in mind when trying to teach material to someone. My favorite areas to tutor in are Writing, Public Speaking, and Philosophy because I think these areas of study can help people develop themselves in to become a well rounded citizen.Outside of Academia, I am interested in exercising, music, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. When it comes to physical exercise, I keep things diverse depending on what I feel I need work in. In addition, I enjoy yoga to help maintain balance and keep a level state-of-mind. I enjoy listening to a variety of music from virtually all genres and I collect vinyl records and enjoy listening to them in my free time. When it comes to jiu-jitsu, I am still very much a beginner and I have only taken a few months of classes but I have enjoyed every single one. I am new to the area and have yet to join a local gym but am eager to get started again.

Are you looking to get good grades fast? School can get hard sometimes, and we both know what it takes to get an A, but I believe working smarter is better than working harder! Spending hours doing homework in hopes of acing your tests is definitely not fun. I'm in college so I know how it is, but all throughout high school I learned the key to my high GPA was not to be drowned with work I wasn't excited about--it's all about learning the right way. As a tutor I hope to be the tutor I once wish I had early on, to save you time, and make sure you enjoy a subject more because of how easy it gets to you.
