As an educator, it is my personal mission to enable students by giving them the necessary tools to find success. l believe every student deserves the chance to succeed in achieving and surpassing their goals. I want to empower my students to approach new or challenging subjects with confidence. I am a strategic communication major with minors in psychology and English that graduated from Rockhurst University. I have interacted with students in Vacation Bible School as well as worked at Walt Disney World as a photographer for 6 months after graduating college in which I interacted with thousands of guests, both young and old, on a daily basis. Subjects I tutor include English, public speaking, and communication. I have always enjoyed helping students with their English skills, whether that means editing papers or assisting them with tough-to-learn grammar skills. I work with my students and make sure they have the skills to succeed in the classroom. I am a huge fan of Disney and Harry Potter, and have always enjoyed listening to Taylor Swift and reading in my free time.

I hold a Ph.D. in Luso-Afro-Brazilian Studies and Theory (specializing in Brazilian and Portuguese Literature) from The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.During my career, I have privately tutored people of all ages and have taught at two large, public, urban universities serving predominantly first-generation and Pell Grant eligible students, as well as two private, elite institutions serving high-achieving students. My current position is as a Lecturer at Washington University in Saint Louis.As an educator with over 14 years of experience, I consider myself an expert at meeting learners where they are now and then systematically guiding them to where they want to be. I derive great joy from helping my students reach new milestones and maximize their academic potential.While I teach, lecture, and tutor on a wide variety of subjects, I'm most passionate about English, Portuguese, Literature, Writing, and Public Speaking.In my spare time, I enjoy photography, hiking, rock climbing, reading, and spending time with my family and friends.

I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis where I earned a B.A. in English Literature and a B.F.A. in Digital Imaging and Photography. My most rewarding tutoring experience to date was tutoring Writing and English Literature through a high school writing center. I loved seeing my student's command of their material become increasingly sophisticated throughout the course of their academic year by focusing on their overall comprehension as well as the mechanics of their writing. Additionally, I have had great success aiding students in writing their personal statements for both undergraduate and graduate admissions. Across the board, my teaching philosophy has been to prompt my students through discussion, using questions as much as concrete examples to promote understanding.Currently I work as the managing editor for the internationally acclaimed literary magazine Boulevard, where I spend a good chunk of my time selecting short fiction, essays and poetry for our pages. Then proofreading those same works for publication! In my non-reading/writing time, you can find me training for a 5k trail race or trying a new recipe, often borderline too ambitious.

I find that helping students of all ages learn is one of the most gratifying experiences in my life! When my students learn something new, the knowledge they obtain will be a 'tool' in their 'tool belt' for the rest of their lives. I have worked closely with many students of all ages, and I find that, no matter how old, every person has areas they can improve in. It is important to me to know what each of my students wants to accomplish in their time with me, and how they think that can best be achieved.I have attended Washburn University in Topeka Kansas, The University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, and Johnson County Community College in Olathe, Kansas. I am currently working on a Biotechnology degree after changing from an Aerospace Engineering degree after getting married. I have extensive experience in Mathematics and Science, and I am a very capable writer as well. I can tutor nearly any S.T.E.M course up through highschool (and some college), along with English and grammar - more specifically paper writing - up to an early college level.When it comes to learning, I believe in two very basic principals. First, "Perfect practice makes perfect." I use this modification on the old adage to show that when practicing anything from math to grammar, repetition of the correct kind is absolutely key. Secondly, I believe that every piece of knowledge obtained through school can be treated like a tool in a tool belt. Every student, no matter how old or young, experienced or novice, gifted or challenged can learn to use their tools effectively. I know first hand of the anxiety that comes from having no idea where to start on any given problem, which is why I believe that when it comes to doing well on tests, the best first step is to take a first step!Outside of school, I am an avid video gamer, a devoted husband, and an amateur musician. While I don't consider myself to be gifted athletically, I am certainly able to keep up in recreational or intramural sports - of which soccer is my favorite.

I am an undergraduate at Washington University, and I grew up in Columbus, Ohio. Math has always been one of my favorite subjects. I love Pre-algebra, Calculus, Linear Algebra and everything in between! I have tutored for about four years and have worked with students of all ages. Most students come to me for Math, but I have also worked with students on SAT and ACT test prep, Statistics and Physics. Everyone learns in a slightly different way, and I love figuring out the best way to teach something to people individually and dig down to what questions they really need to have answered to understand the material. In my spare time, I like to go on long bike rides and explore St. Louis's restaurants. I also love baking, playing with dogs and cats, watching movies with my friends and playing soccer.

I have studied world religions, ethics, and business for a number of years. In my studies, I have been particularly attuned to the differences and the understanding of culture, survival, ethics, religion, and society between eastern and western dominant paradigms.From a practical standpoint, I have worked with the Kansas City Interfaith Council for several years. Through my contacts with people of different religious perspectives and different national background, I have come to appreciate how some perceived knowledge does not preclude other viewpoints. I would rather say that in most cases various systems of thought complement one another. Openness to other cultures, ideal, religious thinking, and practice allows for expansion and understanding of one’s own system knowledge.While teaching both religion and business, I have attempted to unite ideas from both disciplines to create more understanding as to why and how ideas are influenced by various constituent elements of society. I have taken advantage of any opportunity to have contact with students of diverse cultural backgrounds. By listening and being introduced to different cultural groups, I have been able to interact with and acquire and understanding of different culture from both the ideal and actual aspects of that culture.Education and learning are not accomplished in a vacuum. Learning is often enhanced by its application in real life situations and conditions. To this end, teaching is expanded when it consists of strong theoretical bases for perspective, wide understanding of the scholarly work of a discipline for depth within the field, and good grounding in practical application for constructive use of knowledge. Learning is a reciprocating process between students, teachers, and advancement of knowledge. Teaching may come from students as well as teachers, and each person in the classroom environment should be respected for their own worth as a person, and a rational human.
