My interest in education stems from my love of learning and the fact that I mostly enjoyed being a student during my years in school. I naturally gravitated toward tutoring and teaching because of their creative aspects. Since we all learn differently, I believe lessons should follow suit. And although I have followed the path of education workwise, I received my degree from the University at Albany as an East Asian Studies major and an English minor because of my love of culture and language.I feel that other languages are not only fun but important, so I spent two years in China teaching ESL to middle schoolers though I didn't know the language. It gave me the opportunity to learn as much as my students were learning every day.The majority of my experience is in teaching students of a younger age, but I have taught those of all ages so that I can be comfortable with whichever.

As a medical student at the CUNY School of Medicine and a Full IB Diploma recipient of Yonkers High School, I have always found an affection for the learning community. As an older sister of two younger brothers, I have grown up tutoring and helping my brothers in all subjects focusing especially on English, Mathematics, and the Sciences. My passion for the medical sciences, chemistry, and biology led me to pursue a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences and tutor in subjects such as biochemistry, immunology, virology as well as standardized exams like SATs and ACTs as well as IB Exams. My students have always appreciated my patience and dedication to helping them succeed and achieve their goals.

Throughout my career, whether in the cockpit of a US Naval jet or working on strategies for an asset allocation modes, I actively use math everyday. My love of math is profound and my three Honor Roll children are shining examples. I have formally and informally tutored hundreds of pupils for 35+ years and believe that students need to understand concepts rather than memorize them.

I am a retired Wall Street research executive turned teacher/tutor and have spent the last 2 years teaching and tutoring students in Westchester for standardized tests and academic subjects (high school, college, and graduate level). I have taught over two hundred students in the classroom and have privately tutored over 30 students in: Statistics (both AP and college level), Physics (regents, high school, AP, and SAT II), Math (SAT, SAT II level 1 and 2, Algebra, Trig, Pre-Calc, and Business Math), and Business (Graduate level Finance and Marketing). I have tutored students preparing for the SAT, SSAT, and ISEE exams and am qualified and prepared to tutor the ACT and GMAT tests. My SAT students have had extremely positive results, averaging over 275 points of improvement. My last class of 20 students averaged over 300 points of improvements. I have had similar success preparing students for SAT subject tests and AP exams. My students benefit from my comprehensive knowledge of the subject matter, high energy, enthusiasm, and patience. I spend time getting to know the individual needs of my students and then tailor a program of study that best addresses both subject matter gaps and test taking strategies and skills. I develop a rapport with my students often utilizing my quick wit and good humor and this relationship helps to motivate them and elicit their best performance. In addition, I utilize frequent testing and feedback to reinforce their progress. My academic credentials are excellent and include a B.A. in Economics (summa cum laude) and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. With regard to my standardized tests, I took the GMAT test in 1983 and scored in the top two percent.

As a New York City Educator, I strive to cultivate and establish an environment wherein each student can reach his or her highest academic potential. After being awarded a Bachelor's of Science, with Latin honors, in Biology at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, I continued my education Pace University's School of Education. After teaching in middle school science in Harlem, NY for two years, I graduated from Pace with my Masters of Science in Adolescent Education. Throughout college, I have tutored and mentored elementary school, middle school, high school, and college level students in various topics. These topics range from multiple biological disciplines, various concepts in mathematics, and English language arts skills. I am most passionate about middle- and elementary school-level mathematics, English language arts, and science because the concepts are dynamic and relational. The diversity of the material allows students to make meaningful connections to the content, cultivating long-lasting understandings of the material. While tutoring, I tend to follow an inquiry-based model wherein students are consistently questioned throughout the tutoring process. While providing the students with meaningful resources that are tailored to their specific needs and learning styles, I attempt to create connections between the content, process, and student. Because students tend to struggle in mathematics and science, I enjoy making these concepts transparent, fun, easy to understand and remember. When I am not teaching or tutoring, I enjoy coaching my middle school Step and Basketball Teams, in addition to taking these students on trips and retreats. With your child's specific learning needs as the foundation of my platform, I hope to establish a professional and meaningful environment conducive to your child's academic and social success.

I have taught courses in American history and Western Civilization at Arizona State University, Scottsdale Community College, Chandler-Gilbert Community College. In addition, I have taught courses in the history of the American Southwest, Native American history, and American Indian studies. I have tutored students in English as a Second Language, reading comprehension, and essay writing.I use various types of information technology for class sessions, projects, and assignments. I have used both Blackboard and Canvas for my courses in conjunction with other online applications. I blend technology and traditional methods of instruction in my courses. I have worked in various capacities outside of the academic setting, and I utilize my experiences as an example how historical knowledge and methods are applicable outside of the classroom.I strive to show how topics relate to current events and stress the "cause-and-effect" aspects in history to show how history is relevant. I demonstrate how what occurred impacts people on a personal level with emphases on adaptability and continuity. Another of my goals is developing students critical thinking, writing, research, and collaborative working skills. I emphasize that materials presented in class are a starting point in seeking knowledge, not the final word.I view teaching as a major method for people to enrich their lives and broaden their views, in addition to their career preparation. I enjoy teaching and see it as a profession that is always evolving when it comes to the use of technology. I encourage visits to museums, heritage sites, guest lectures, and cultural events. I feel students can conceptualize what is being taught in the classroom through interaction. Students themselves are an invaluable resource in teaching each other. I approach every term as a learning experience for myself as well as my students, and encourage students to relate experiences relative to class topics. This gives students more confidence, encourages dialogue, and shows that the conveyance of ideas is not one way. However, my job does not end with class. I have encouraged and mentored students from various backgrounds in my career. It is greatly satisfying when they come to me requesting letters of recommendation to a program, law school, graduate school, a scholarship, or a job posting. It is gratifying seeing students apply what they learned to further their endeavors and enrich their lives.
