Hello, my name is Gabriel. I am currently a student at UCF pursuing a double major in Computer Science and Biotechnology. I graduated from Largo High School with my IB diploma, so I have already studied through a college level on most standard subjects. I also have prior experience doing both private paid and volunteer tutoring, so I am familiar with encouraging students to learn and understand new material.

I believe that anyone of average intelligence can learn anything they desire to know. Accomplishing this may require all of one's curiosity, tenacity, diligence, and integrity that can be brought to bear upon the target, but with an undaunted intention to master the subject, their mastery of it will occur. I possess the ability to impart an understanding of a complicated subject or concept to another in a way that illuminates the inherent simplicity in it for them. If there is a modicum of willingness or a spark of curiosity within the student for the subject at hand, I seize it, nourish it, and use their resulting resurrected enthusiasm to help me bring him through any existing confusion. Together we arrive at a bright, clear understanding of the subject; and, importantly, they gain an appreciation of their new understanding and a confidence in their ability to learn whatever they want to know. I find the task of helping another in their search for a greater understanding of a subject or concept to be a source of great satisfaction to me, though I never pursued education as a profession. Tutoring provides me with many opportunities to do so; and who knows where the student's search for knowledge may lead them. I am a graduate of Western Governors University where I received my Master of Arts degree in English Language Learning. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Puerto Rican Studies from York College. I am a certified ESL instructor with a reading endorsement. I have taught ESL, reading, and ELA in a traditional classroom setting for over 20 years. For the past four years, I have worked with international sports players looking to improve their English. I also worked as an online English instructor for students in China. I am passionate about teaching English (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) while honoring students' native languages. This passion came from the experiences of my own siblings who lost their first language because there was no support available when they arrived in the United States. In my experience, helping students attain English proficiency not only helps the students but their families as well. This is why teaching has been such a rewarding profession, and I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, dancing, listening to music, gardening, traveling with my family, and playing with my two dogs.

I received my B.S. in International Affairs with concentrations in History and Italian Language and Culture from Florida State University. I also acquired a TEFL 100 hour certificate (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). I have experience tutoring students from all around the world in English as a foreign language.The key strengths that I possess include the following: in-depth knowledge and understanding of the European region and its history, strong writing, editing, research and analysis skills, and a passion for European history, American politics, Italian language and culture, and ESL.

Since completing my doctorate in chemistry, I have been privately tutoring to help fulfill my desire to help others learn. My specialty is chemistry, but I am well versed in biology and physics. While standardized testing seems to drain the life out of every subject, there are ways to make it fun while still having the tools to ace the test. My style of teaching integrates the real world as much as possible, while still instilling a strong control of the conceptual aspects. I focused on Political Science and Environmental Studies in college, but also enjoy math, physics, literature, and fine art.
