I am a software engineer at a small technology company and volunteer teaching AP Computer Science at a local high school. I am passionate about tutoring in computer science and math to help people understand the beauty in the two fields. When tutoring, I find that it is important to engage the student by helping them understand the base of the problem and how to break it down into manageable sections. After this, it is important to figure out how to solve each part of the problem. By the end of my sessions, I hope that my students understand the basics of how we approached and conquered the problem, enabling them to do the same in the future without assistance. In my free time, I spend time visiting museums, going out to eat, and painting watercolor.

Coming from a long generation of teachers, it is no wonder that I love tutoring so much! I began tutoring biology my sophomore year of college at the University of Arizona. I absolutely loved helping students understand difficult science topics - I knew what it was like to be on the other side feeling frustrated trying to learn and grasp topics like DNA transcription and translation. Through my experience tutoring, I have helped students develop various learning styles to help them understand the material better. In addition to one-on-one tutoring, I was a Supplemental Instruction leader for the intro biology class at the UA, and I created lesson plans, games, and activities to make learning fun for the 350 students. I learned that most students are visual learners, so I advised many of them to make use of visual learning tools such as concept maps, Venn Diagrams, and charts.Growing up in Arizona, Spanish was spoken all around me and students start learning the language at a young age. I studied Spanish all throughout college and spoke frequently with locals. In addition to tutoring Spanish, I love tutoring math as well. Math has always made sense to me, 1+1 has to equal 2, there is just no other way!As for me outside the tutoring world, I graduated from the University of Arizona with a BS in Physiology, and I am currently getting my Masters in Medical Physiology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. I am a huge basketball fan, so I was thrilled when LeBron decided to return to Cleveland about the same time that I moved here! In my spare time, I do my best to tour the city of Cleveland (there is so much to see!) and cook/bake.

I earned my bachelors degree at Ohio State University and I am currently working towards my masters degree in education from Cleveland State University. Right now I'm working full time as a research associate at a biotech company in Cleveland, but I've been tutoring part time since my early college years. I've also spent a lot of one-on-one time with students while coaching high school sailing and instructing summer camps.I am strongest at tutoring math and science. My favorite class to tutor is calculus, also the most challenging. I can help with AP, SAT, and ACT standardized test prep. I am also certified as an Assistant Lab Animal Technician through AALAS. I have a bunch of study tips, test taking strategies and general plans for success in school that look forward to sharing with students.I like to view school work holistically - for example, if we're stuck on the geometry chapter focused on circles, let's make sure we fully understand the preceding topics before we dive into the new one. Also, if we're stuck writing a paper, let's make sure we did the necessary research, outline, and planning before we put pen to paper. And most importantly, I try to impress upon students that sleep, stress levels, and overall wellness can be sneaky factors that inhibit students abilities to succeed.

My goal as a teacher is to impart knowledge of the subject matter and enthusiasm for the material to as many students as possible. Making the material enjoyable to students requires employing multiple methods for teaching the subject matter. Each student will approach a subject from a different background, each student will learn most effectively through a different method, and each course will require a different technique.Having served as a teaching assistant at three different universities, I have experience at connecting with students regardless of the campus, class sizes, and student backgrounds. My biggest strength as a teaching assistant and a lecturer has been my ability to connect with students with diverse backgrounds enough so they feel comfortable approaching me with questions or concerns about the material. My students have a diverse range of educational and economic backgrounds, so I have to cater the material accordingly. Classes I have served as a TA for include thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials science. I have also taught chemical engineering thermodynamics and tutored ACT/SAT/PSAT prep for high school students, and high school math and science. In addition, I have worked in various biological and engineering labs over the years, so I have technical expertise in many general undergraduate science classes. One of my main goals as an educator is to produce students that both feel confident in their own abilities to do independent work while also knowing when and how to rely on individuals with other skill sets to help fill in the gaps. While my students submit homework and tests individually, projects are conducted as group work, and I encourage students to work collaboratively while solving homework problems. This is to encourage better material understanding and a necessary skill in teamwork, while also making sure students are taking some initiative and are not completely reliant upon their classmates.I hope this gives you a sense for the kind of tutor I will be. Please let me know if you have any questions.

I graduated from Marietta College in 2011, with a Bachelor of the Arts in Political Science and a minor in French. For the past four years I have worked with community organizing non-profits in Ohio and, briefly, in Florida. In my spare time, I developed my own curriculum to pursue studies in International Conflict Resolution, which I will be studying this Fall at American University. I worked as a tutor during my time at Marietta, where I focused on helping those studying French and Political Science. I also worked extensively with the writing center, as writing consultant, and in our Communications Department, as a speech coach. My background has lent itself well to tutoring English, Reading, Writing, and History. I believe in working with students in a way that empowers them to build their own skills- an approach with an eye on long term sustainability and skill development. I think that it is important to be able to find fun in the learning process and I try to incorporate that in all of my sessions. My main hobby is learning, but outside of that I love to be out doors. I often go running or hiking in the area and I try to read every day. For a few weekends each year, I also act a judge for public speaking tournaments throughout the state.

I dual majored in History and Political Science while attending Bowling Green State University. As an undergraduate student I was highly involved in campus activities and event planning. I spent much of my time advocating for various groups on campus and working to enrich student life. After graduating I worked for the Department of Defense, Finance and Accounting Service, for a short time. This experience allowed me to apply my scholastic knowledge of bureaucracy to the real world workings of the government. After working to promote the welfare of our service men and women; I decided to further my education and attend graduate school.I enrolled in Earlham College’s Arts and Teaching program where I learned the pedagogy of holistic education. I received a Master’s Degree in Education and I currently hold licensures in Socials Studies in Indiana and Ohio; I have taught in disadvantaged communities for three years, focusing on improving literacy. As a professional educator I have learned that inspiration is the supreme teacher. Understanding is at the core of all learning and learning is only beneficial if understanding is respected as the true teacher, and I a mere instrument for its song.I believe that a teacher must challenge, inspire, and create in her students a sense of wonderment and awe; it is her duty to instill in the pupil the desire to be a lifelong learner, because life is itself an education.

I received my Bachelors degree in Mathematics with a focus on Education from Liberty University in May, 2019 and my Master's degree from Case Western Reserve University in December of 2020. I have been tutoring mathematics ranging from developmental math to Calculus III for the entire duration of my college experience in both group and one-on-one sessions. More details on my past class experience are available in my Resume. Everyone has something that they struggle learning, Mathematics is absolutely not anything to be shy about, and it is my passion to pass on the knowledge I was taught in as fun a way that I can manage.
