I am a software engineer at a small technology company and volunteer teaching AP Computer Science at a local high school. I am passionate about tutoring in computer science and math to help people understand the beauty in the two fields. When tutoring, I find that it is important to engage the student by helping them understand the base of the problem and how to break it down into manageable sections. After this, it is important to figure out how to solve each part of the problem. Math has always made sense to me, 1+1 has to equal 2, there is just no other way!As for me outside the tutoring world, I graduated from the University of Arizona with a BS in Physiology, and I am currently getting my Masters in Medical Physiology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. I am a huge basketball fan, so I was thrilled when LeBron decided to return to Cleveland about the same time that I moved here! Right now I'm working full time as a research associate at a biotech company in Cleveland, but I've been tutoring part time since my early college years. Also, if we're stuck writing a paper, let's make sure we did the necessary research, outline, and planning before we put pen to paper. And most importantly, I try to impress upon students that sleep, stress levels, and overall wellness can be sneaky factors that inhibit students abilities to succeed.

In addition, I have worked in various biological and engineering labs over the years, so I have technical expertise in many general undergraduate science classes.One of my main goals as an educator is to produce students that both feel confident in their own abilities to do independent work while also knowing when and how to rely on individuals with other skill sets to help fill in the gaps. I worked as a tutor during my time at Marietta, where I focused on helping those studying French and Political Science. I also worked extensively with the writing center, as writing consultant, and in our Communications Department, as a speech coach. My background has lent itself well to tutoring English, Reading, Writing, and History. This experience allowed me to apply my scholastic knowledge of bureaucracy to the real world workings of the government. After working to promote the welfare of our service men and women; I decided to further my education and attend graduate school.I enrolled in Earlham College’s Arts and Teaching program where I learned the pedagogy of holistic education. I received a Master’s Degree in Education and I currently hold licensures in Socials Studies in Indiana and Ohio; I have taught in disadvantaged communities for three years, focusing on improving literacy. As a professional educator I have learned that inspiration is the supreme teacher. Understanding is at the core of all learning and learning is only beneficial if understanding is respected as the true teacher, and I a mere instrument for its song.I believe that a teacher must challenge, inspire, and create in her students a sense of wonderment and awe; it is her duty to instill in the pupil the desire to be a lifelong learner, because life is itself an education.
