I am a graduate of Washington State University with a bachelor's degree in wildlife ecology. I currently work as an educator at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, where I teach students ages 5 to 18 about the natural world. I am very passionate about education, especially topics like biology, chemistry, and math. I believe that learning is a process, and students must be patient to understand this to be successful. I also currently tutor a sixth grader in time management, organizational skills and adjusting to more difficult topics in school. In June, I hope to be starting graduate school to get my Master's degree in teaching math and science. With this, I plan to teach high school science, specifically biology. In my free time, I love running, working out, skiing, hiking, playing with my dog and hanging out with friends and family!

Since high school, I've been exposed to different aspects of education from mentoring peer immigrants to studying education policy. Studying cognitive science in college has solidified my interest in and taught me various effective teaching methods. Ive learned that there are different types of intelligence as well as different types of learning. In order to be an effective educator, it is important to establish a relationship with the pupil to utilize the pupils learning style.Moments from being a summer school teacher for 4th-6th graders and a resident assistant for 2 years, fuel my passion for teaching. The joy on the students faces when they achieve a goal or the gratefulness they express for my help stay with me to this day. By working with Varsity Tutors I hope to apply what Ive learned as well as gain more field experience.I recently came to DC from California to do an internship with the Department of State. I earned my bachelor's degree from Northwestern University in computer science. I have worked at the NIH and at Caltech as a bioinformatics researcher, and I am starting graduate school this fall. My experiences as a student and scientist help me explain concepts and work through problems in a clear and engaging manner. I love teaching, and strive to make each personalized lesson enjoyable and productive. In addition to math and science, I can teach the skills and strategies students need to reach their goals on the ACT, GRE, or AP tests. I also enjoy working with elementary age students to increase reading and math proficiencies.

I enjoy school thoroughly and have a focus in three different departments. My three departments of study are religious studies, sociology, and dental sciences. I have been studying to enter dental school, and took the DAT exam in September 2014. I have done private tutoring for fellow peers at San Diego State, helping them in their science, math, history, and literature classes, as well as peer reviewed essays and papers for business and rhetoric courses. I am most passionate in tutoring the sciences. I used to dislike the sciences until I was able to find an appreciation for them. I am fascinated by chemistry and biology because of their complexity . I find that the key to enjoying science classes is being able to see the big picture and how science concepts fit into everyday life. In teaching any subject I like to first explain the concept or problem in depth and then have the student teach it to me. I believe that when you are able to teach a subject, you understand it best and will perform better when tested. In my free time I enjoy playing guitar and listening to music. I also enjoy surfing, skateboarding, and snowboarding. I also enjoy playing console and computer video games when I have the time.

I am originally from the Los Angeles area and attended UCLA for my undergraduate degree in political science. Since graduating law school, I worked at both a major law firm and a small law firm until I was appointed as an attorney for a federal judge (a.k.a. “law clerk” position). I primarily tutor clients for LSAT preparation. I scored in the 99th percentile when I took the LSAT exam, and have since refined my strategies that are crucial to a successful LSAT score. My ultimate goal is that my students will score even higher than I scored, and I look forward to observing the progress and success of each of my clients. In my free time, I like to spend time outdoors playing tennis, jogging, hiking, and meeting with friends. I also love to travel and appreciate the uniqueness that each city--much like each person--has to offer. I feel my easy going nature and curiosity for life will rub off on my clients, and possibly even help them enjoy the sometimes daunting experience of taking the LSAT.
