College English Tutor • +18 Subjects

I am a graduate of the University of Puget Sound where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and Global Development Studies. Much of my work experience has been with students ranging from elementary to college age. I have had experience directly in elementary school classrooms working with small groups and individuals to improve reading, writing, and math skills.I am most passionate about humanistic studies and explored a variety of these subjects in college. I was able to gain insight into more than just my area of study by becoming an unofficial editor of many fellow students' essays.I love working with students of all ages to find their voice in whatever subject they are seeking support in. I aspire to not just assist students in accomplishing their learning goals, but to make them feel comfortable their abilities far beyond my time working with them.In my free time, I love to bake and cook, read, hike, and am on the slow journey of teaching myself to play the guitar!

I believe that my past experience working as a tutor, high level of academic achievement, and passion for learning make me a great tutor.I tutor a variety of subjects, including SAT Prep, but my true passion is Classics. As a child, my favorite book was D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths. I have been fascinated by the language, literature, and culture of the ancient Mediterranean ever since. This passion is reflected in my coursework and high level of achievement throughout my academic career. I graduated from the University of Chicago with honors in Classics and received a special commendation for my Bachelor of Arts thesis. I took on independent research projects during my undergraduate summers. I plan to one day pursue a Ph.D in Classics.I am also committed to improving the education experience of my students, and have demonstrated that commitment in both my professional and personal life. Currently, I am working as a freelance writer, editor, and assistant to a scholar at the University of Washington who works on education policy. As an undergraduate, I was involved with a student organization that tutored students at a local K-8 school who were struggling with reading and writing. My student was thirteen years old, and most of the resources for his reading level were aimed at students much younger. In order to keep him engaged, I had to get creative. We would practice reading comprehension using the sports section of the newspaper, and did short creative writing exercises. I learned a lot about how to get students excited about subjects that at first seem intimidating or frustrating, how to think on my feet, and how to connect with and engage students from different backgrounds than my own.In my free time, I enjoy reading fantasy and science fiction novels, trying out new recipes, swimming, and hiking.

Hey there,I am a recent graduate from the University at Buffalo receiving my bachelors in biological sciences. I have been tutoring for the past 13 years since I was a freshman in High School. My passion in life is sharing knowledge with the people around me. I hope to obtain my PhD in a few years in genetics. The human genome is a vast ocean of enigmas and finding out what precisely does what can help make great strides with future healthcare.Currently I tutor in Algebra 1 and 2, and of course Biology. With me as a tutor I hope to connect with my students about how easy the work can become with a little practice. Not all students are the same and thankfully there are many ways I can help the students excel with a little hard work. One of the greatest feelings I get is when you explain the subject to a student and they have this look of "I get it". It just shows the passion one puts into the work he or she does."I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant. It is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are." -Mewtwo

ACT Math Tutor • +32 Subjects

Hey! I'm a a high school graduate headed off to college at Haverford, a top college near Philly. I specialize in both math and writing, often tutoring my friends and volunteering at the writing center. I've taken many dual enrollment math courses at local colleges, including Calculus 1,2, and 3, as well as linear algebra. I also do a lot of test prep, as I've actually taken the SAT 5 times and scored a 1590, so I'm very used to standardized testing. I love helping people, so I hope I can help you!

I am currently a junior at NYU-Poly in Downtown Brooklyn, majoring in Mechanical Engineering and minoring in Sustainable Urban Environments. For the past couple of years I have tutored a few students on and off in Trigonometry, SAT Math, and GRE Math. I enjoy tutoring Math because I love Math in general, and I enjoy passing that love onto others. I believe that one-on-one tutoring is beneficial for all students, especially in the NYC school system, where education is not focused enough on the individuals. I love reading, baking, and singing - I sing all the time!

Medical Terminology Tutor • +8 Subjects

I graduated from an accelerated BSN program at Texas Tech University. I also have a BS in Zoology from The Ohio State University where I also completed Air Force ROTC. I served 7 years as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force in charge of air traffic controllers and airfield management personnel. I met my husband while on active duty and after we got engaged, I separated from the Air Force and pursued my passion for nursing. I am excited to share my experience with taking the NCLEX, various study strategies that I learned while in a demanding 12-month accelerated nursing program, and my experience as a graduate nurse in a Level II trauma center. I am a big proponent of understanding the 'why' behind pathophysiology, signs, and symptoms, and nursing interventions. Trying to memorize everything is impossible and will not help you pass the NCLEX, however, if you understand the concept and pathophysiology, you can usually get the right answers and be way more successful.

AP Macroeconomics Tutor • +10 Subjects

I am a graduate of Hood College, with a double major in Economics and Law & Society. I attended The American University Ph.D. Economics program. I completed all the Ph.D coursework and comprehensive exams, but not the dissertation. I have taught economics at the college level for over 15 years. I enjoy seeing students make connections between economics and other fields of study or their own personal interests. It is heartening to watch students utilize economic concepts to understand the world around us. While most people do not find economics super easy, I find that much of students' anxiety stems from using math, but believe that most economic principles or concepts can be understood using little math; and once a student has a strong foundation, being able to utilize and understand some math ends up being a great deal easier.I have taught introductory Micro and Macro courses, Intermediate Micro, Labor Economics, Money & Banking, and U.S. Economic History.
