I am an avid practitioner of martial arts, specifically Kung Fu, and have been studying yoga and meditation since 2007. My mission is to facilitate dance and movement for self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. I am also an online English teacher and tutor in Reading, Writing, and ESL with over 4 years of experience tutoring students in grades elementary through middle school. I am a Seattle-based actress and singer originally from Illinois -- I moved to the Seattle area in 2000. I also work part-time at a non-profit guardianship firm downtown. (We look out for the financial and healthcare needs of the elderly and the physically and mentally disabled.) I am an anglophile and ailurophile (look them up! :-)), and I love theatre, movies, Gonzaga basketball (I went to law school there), and Chicago Cubs baseball.

I believe that the best learners have an innate passion for the subject that they are pursuing. I learned this very early on when in grade school I dreaded English and performed poorly in my classes. But when my teacher asked me to try and relate to the characters I was reading about, this allowed me to articulate my responses in the form of essays very effectively. And in the subjects that I performed well in school, I noticed that I intrinsically loved those topics. Thereby, learning first starts with developing aninterest in the subject material you are pursuing, and only afterwards will you truly be able to grasp concepts and apply them to a variety of scenarios to demonstrate subject mastery. My goal will be to not only teach students concepts, but also help them gain an appreciation and love for the subject they are learning about.

I have my B.S. in Chemistry, Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, and my J.D. (law degree). I am a patent attorney, which keeps me current and well-versed in a number of subjects. I enjoy working with young people, and put an emphasis on making learning fun and effective. No one student is the same, so I work to figure out what works best for each student. Much of my teaching knowledge comes from my time spent as a teaching assistant in graduate school, coupled with my more recent participation in youth ministry where I taught a class and Boy Scouts, where I was an active member of my son's troop.

These range from traditional academic settings where I provided support for students struggling in History and English through my involvement in National High School Honors Society, to my roles in educating and assisting homeless and other diverse populations through public health initiatives and political organizations. I love engaging with subjects that educate us on how we as individuals structure our world and view ourselves. This love has developed into a passion for writing, literature, and numerous genres of history as I find that these subjects truly articulate who we are.I find that greatest way to teach any material is by demonstrating that the subject is not just isolated to an exam, but to also to a countless amount of diverse fields that influence a student's life . For example, cultivating a love for American literature by looking at it through the lens of sports writing. This idea provides a foundation for how I view education; as never simply confined to the classroom. We engage in the learning process through truly ever part of life. I tutor a broad range of subjects but mainly focus in Middle and High School Math and English. I enjoy working with middle and high school students but also have experience working with college students. I tailor my tutoring around a student's strengths and feel every student is smart in their own way.I also have assisted students with college applications, admission essays, and improving their study skills.
