I am completing my Doctor of Education degree at Logan University (with a focus in health professions education), and am completing my Doctor of Philosophy degree at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine (with a focus in comparative biomedical sciences). Much of my graduate research and training focuses on developing medical education curricula that is more student-based and centered, as well as animal behavior/welfare research that begins with individual animals and carries over towards more healthy and sustainable ecosystems and populations.Even though I am trained at the graduate level in several biological 'subdisciplines,' such as cellular biology, nutritional biochemistry, etc., I particularly enjoy tutoring introductory biology, chemistry, and environmental science courses. I have always had broad scientific interests, spanning several scientific disciplines, which was a primary driving agent in my pursuit of an integrative bachelor's degree in that it allowed me to take a variety of these underpinning science courses. I strongly believe these courses can be exciting, and that they hold the potential for opening many avenues of student self-discovery. I feel that helping students flourish in these introductory courses not only builds self-confidence (along with better grades), but also builds self-insight and self-awareness that can help broaden and direct future trajectories and choices down the road.Outside of academic-related activities, I especially enjoy the outdoors and endurance sports. I have traveled extensively both inside and outside of the U.S. often traveling to some really remote destinations. I particularly enjoy running especially trail running, because I get to enjoy the natural world while getting some exercise.

I have been in the field of education for twenty years now. I began my career in 2001 as a third grade teacher in New York City. During my duration there, I taught grades three through six. I relocated to the state of Georgia in 2005 where I continued my teaching in grade 5. I have twenty years of certified teaching experience under my belt to offer your student. Before entering college, I tutored freshmen in high school through a peer leadership program, traveled to elementary schools as part of volunteer opportunities, and often coached family friends to help them prepare for standardized tests. The subjects I'm most passionate about include literature, Spanish, and sciences like biology. However, I also enjoy helping students prepare for standardized tests like the SAT or ACT. My teaching style is centered around the idea that learning is a process, and the key aspect to successful tutoring is persistence. Outside of academia, some of my hobbies include volunteering, exercising, and traveling to new places.

Since then I have worked with clients of all ages in a variety of settings including home health, schools, inpatient and outpatient settings. In addition, I have over 7 years of experience teaching occupational therapy coursework in postsecondary settings; five of those years were as a Program Director. Under my leadership, each cohort's NBCOT pass rate exceeded ACOTE's requirements.In 2017, I became a certified yoga instructor and two years later, in 2019, furthered my wellness education journey by earning a personal training certificate through National Academy of Sports Medicine and also became a licensed massage therapist. I understand the complexity of preparing for national board exams and completing the required coursework. I am here to support you in your efforts to become a professional health practitioner. I have always had a mind for mathematics and science. Because of this gift, I was always the one person in class everyone asked for help. I learned quickly how to teach others, which helped in my home life as I had a younger brother who was not so gifted in math. Through him, and his friends who also struggled with mathematics, I found that most people struggle with math because they believe it is too difficult. I believe by being a tutor and helping others learn I can impart my wisdom to the next generation and make a difference in the world.What sparked my interest in Biology was an interest in life. I loved animals and learning about them. This love for animals narrowed to a love of the complexity of the human system, which I am now studying. When I'm not studying I enjoy music of all genre. From VNV Nation to Trivium to Earth, Wind, and Fire, I love all music and can appreciate most music. I also enjoy reading novels, preferably those in the realm of science fiction. And though I can enjoy playing video games in a casual sense, I'd much prefer walking Kennesaw Mountain or skiing on Lake Altoona.It is my hope that through my experiences as a knowledgeable brother, friend, and tutor, I can also help a broader range of people learn the subjects they are experiencing difficulties in.
