I am currently completing post-baccalaureate pre-medical program at Columbia University. Prior to my academic career at Columbia, I was a student-athlete at College of the Holy Cross, where I majored in International Relations. I am passionate about teaching because I love learning. I enjoy helping my students grow and helping them become eager to learn.

I am a registered nurse and a graduate of Wesleyan College. I am excited to offer educational assistance to students in the areas of nursing, NCLEX prep, math, and science. My favorite topic to teach is nursing concepts because I have valuable clinical experience that allows me to teach from a realistic and engaging perspective. My goal is to provide an engaging and diverse learning experience to help students excel in academic performance.

I am currently a Language Arts teacher at Norcross High School where I have been teaching an SAT prep class four times a year for the past three years. Additionally, I tutor students who require language arts assistance. This year, I am teaching Senior Honors British Literature and Junior Honors American Literature. The previous two years, I taught senior AP Language and Composition which is my favorite class to teach. I also received certification in AP Literature. I'm dedicated to quality instruction, educational innovation, building relationships with students and their parents, and making learning fun. Students enjoy my class (my student approval rating is 94%, and I always rate well on Ratemyteachers.com) because I love to laugh and be ridiculous. Plus, I'm skilled at making quick connections to movies, music, jokes, etc. that kids can relate to and enjoy. Most importantly is my ability to zero in on what issues prevent kids from understanding and have effective techniques for developing clarity and understanding in students.

My earliest childhood memory is in a classroom in Germany. I started school overseas on an Army base and I remember feeling fascinated with my surroundings. New books, new people, toys, paper and crayons were all within my grasp and sweet faced old woman was standing in front of the room excited to equip me with the knowledge of how to proceed. I loved school and academia since then and gravitated towards the sciences around middle school. I knew from early on that I wanted to become a physician but I also knew that I additionally wanted to continue to pass the information that I learned on. See one, do one, teach one has become of my favorite mantras.In teaching students I believe in using real world applications to excite the audience about the material they are getting ready to learn. I believe the first 10 minutes of every lecture is the most crucial and typically start off with a problem/quiz that will relate to the information of the day to captivate the classroom. Interaction is a key to learning. I attempt to personalize it at every opportunity hoping that students realize that sitting back and passively absorbing knowledge is not an option or a key ingredient in the recipe for success.Another important aspect to teaching is incorporating methods that apply to all different learning styles. Realizing that students are diverse and you are constantly speaking to a mix of auditory, visual or tactile learners is important and should be noted with every lesson plan. The beauty of science is that the topic can be manipulated to accommodate all styles and promote knowledge.Ultimately, my goal is to give someone the same sense of wonder that so many excellent professors have done for me over the years. To quote Socrates "I cannot teach anybody anything. I can only make them think" and hopefully as an adjunct professor that is exactly what I will do.

My name is Kierra Edwards and I recently just moved to a new state excited for a new adventure! I used to teach 2nd grade as well as take part in other educational settings from babies all the way to college students.

What I miss most about teaching in the classroom are the students! Online tutoring has given me a chance to see those wonderful learning connections happen again. I have taught in the elementary classroom for 16 years in Georgia. I hold a bachelor's degree from Indiana University in elementary education. I have been trained in balanced literacy and the Upwords reading program (Orton-Gillingham based). My passion is to work with students who get lost in the classroom. I love to teach the struggling reader. I have a strong confidence I can help your child learn to become a better reader!

I hold a B.S. in Mathematics from Georgia State University, an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Rhode Island, and I'm currently working on my D.Sc. in Computer Science at Aspen University. My research area is Artificial Life: developing simulations to model co-evolution of ecosystems.I tutor Mathematics and Computer Programming at the High School, Collegiate, and Professional levels. I believe that education should be practical and useful, and I encourage students to apply their newfound knowledge into projects and work that they enjoy and prosper from.
