I have university teaching experience and I tutored friends throughout college. I have received excellent teacher evaluations at both the University of Texas and Singapore University of Technology and Design. These two universities have students that are very different from each other and I excelled in teaching both groups. My background is in mathematics, I have a bachelors and masters degree in math from UT and NYU respectively, but I branched out from pure math and received a PhD from the McCombs School of Business in financial engineering. I left my job in Singapore in August and I start a new job as a professor of Mathematics and Systems Engineering at the University of Minnesota in January.

I am an experienced electrical engineer with an advanced degree in electrical engineering. In graduate school, I was a teaching assistant for two semesters (basic semiconductor circuits and electro-mechanical laboratory). During 2012-2013, I taught fundamental electrical circuit analysis to engineering students for two semesters at Penn State Harrisburg. I also have experience tutoring mathematics one-on-one to high-school students. My goal is to improve and help solidify the student's understanding of the subject matter. With a better understanding, it is expected that the student will be motivated to approach problems with increased skill and eventually confidence.A student's insight is important to solving mathematics and calculus problems. Sometimes this insight is based on physical intuition--but it does not need to be. I spend time to ensure that the student starts on a correct approach. With years of hands-on-experience in electrical engineering and physical systems, I am able to associate the equations describing a system with its behavior. If concepts in mathematics or physics escape you, or you're having trouble figuring out how to set up problems to obtain their solution, I would enjoy helping you work through that difficulty.

I currently teach high school French (levels 1, 2, 3, 4 and AP), but I will be leaving the classroom in to begin my doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I received a Masters degree in French Literature and Foreign Language Pedagogy from the University of Delaware, which is also where I graduated with a Bachelors in French Education. This extensive study of the French language and culture has helped me develop diverse teaching methods that I passionately bring to my students. I have lived abroad in France on two separate occasions, once as a student and then later as an English instructor. Since I have entered the teaching profession, I have had the pleasure of working with students of all ages and backgrounds (elementary aged to adult learners) who have all had different personal goals for wanting to become proficient in French. In my classroom teaching and individual tutoring, I always try to bring an immersion approach to the lesson, no matter the level of French of the students. I believe in communicating as much as possible in French in order to develop fluency. I can be very animated and creative when it comes to expressing myself so that my students understand the language! While I tutor any level of French, I have had great success helping students achieve a passing score on the AP French Language and Culture Exam. I am also very familiar with ACTFL's Oral Proficiency Interview and helping students develop conversation skills. Additionally, I enjoy tutoring students in the domains of study skills and organization so as to prepare them for high school or university. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling with my husband, working out and watching classic films.

I am a graduating student from the University of Virginia, where I have been studying Economics and Politics in the Honors program as a Jefferson Scholar, a merit-based full scholarship. I absolutely love to teach and have spent much of my time in college teaching in various settings. Before getting into my qualifications, though, I think it's important to note one thing about my teaching style. I was never someone who simply "got" things in class. I often struggled to understand relatively simple concepts, especially when compared to my classmates, whether that was in test-taking or in any academic subject. So, I know what it's like to really wrestle with a subject, and I know what kind of assistance is helpful (and what kind of assistance/teaching is not). I think this--empathizing with a student and knowing the difference between good and bad help--is the most important quality of a good tutor. And just as importantly, I will work hard to tailor each tutoring session to the student's needs. I know that everyone's learning style is different, and I view it as my responsibility to cater to the student's strengths while addressing his/her weaknesses. On experience (briefly): I was hired as a teaching assistant by my university's economics department (one of just a few undergraduates), and I also teach debate in local schools in Charlottesville. I enjoy working with students of all ages and have experience teaching students from the elementary school level to the college level. I've worked one-on-one both with friends and with my students on various subjects, including writing, economics, math, and standardized testing. Some qualifications: I recently took the LSAT and scored a 180 after intensive independent study. I am very committed to helping other students increase their scores, as I fully understand the challenges of the test and I know that it can be frustrating not to see your score improve (I often felt that way myself!) The same is true of the SAT. I was not naturally good at test-taking, and so I am passionate about helping students who might be coming from that perspective. I also am excited to tutor in various academic subjects and to help students with college applications. I was accepted to various Ivy League schools before deciding to attend UVa and filled out many applications. As a debate coach, I am constantly editing and refining others' work.

I am a one-time liberal arts graduate who decided to take my passion for writing and research to law school, like so many others. I currently work as an attorney for the Department of Justice, graduated from Ball State University 13 years ago and went straight to law school at Washington and Lee University right here in Virginia. One of my favorite parts of my current job is interacting with law student interns and paralegals and teaching them about the law. I do not get to do that often enough though, and so I thought of tutoring as a great way to be able to teach more students. I excel at Writing, Literature, Grammar, and History, and I use to be pretty mean at Math and Geometry and have been reacquainting myself with those subjects over the past few months as I do not get a lot of Math practice as a lawyer! My own learning accomplishments were always assisted by one on one interactions, and I know so many students can benefit by individualized attention. I hope to teach by example, to provide clear and simple explanations for complex concepts, and to be able to review and give advice as quickly and thoroughly as possible. When I am not working, I love spending time with my two dogs, cooking, reading (mostly historical drama and biography), and continuing to learn as much as I can about the world around me.

I am Shola Awoyemi and I am a Toxicologist who loves to teach. I hold two Doctoral Degrees, first in Biological Science from Tennessee State University and a second in Environmental Toxicology from Texas Tech University. Besides my dual terminal degrees, I hold in addition, three Masters degrees in Environmental Management, Environmental Toxicology and Business Management. I am currently a Senior Scientist in a Fortune 200 American Company.I was once a teacher and I still consider myself a teacher because of my passion to pass on and share my knowledge to with that may be in need of it. My area of teaching specialization and 10+ years teaching experience includes Math, Algebra, Calculus, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Data Analysis using software like IBM SPSS, SAS JMP, Graphpad Prism, Excel STAT.Some may wonder why I am doing this. Yes, I may be fulfilled in my career path as a scientist, but teaching is a part of my life since I completed my high school. I passionately love to teach because the success of my students brings me more joy beyond the monetary returns. It's one way to give back as I look forward to owning my own school someday. Once a teacher, always a teacher (OMA 2020).

Some of the most effective ways to learn science, math, and Spanish are from people who use these subjects every day: for example, a Spanish speaking scientist. My teaching style is very different to that of a typical classroom because I use concepts from science and math every day and understand how they are most easily applied and explained. I try however possible to enrich the learning students gain in the classroom with practical applications for the scientific world. My teaching of Spanish can also best be described as intuitive, as I am a native speaker and can think of ways to explain concepts in Spanish that are not described in textbooks or workbooks. My practical applications to somewhat abstract subjects leave students with a solid conceptual foundation upon which their further study of science, math, or Spanish can flourish.
