I am a graduate of Oregon State University, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Aerospace Engineering. Since graduation, I have found a passion for helping others learn or improve their knowledge. Most recently, I have worked as a ski instructor teaching young children (3.5-5 yrs.), coached kids soccer (8-10 yrs.), and tutored math at a local community college. In each of these settings, I have enjoyed sharing my knowledge to a wide variety of people through engaging interactions. My job is to build confidence, check understanding, and provide encouragement. To me, math is a puzzle, and there are multiple ways to solve a puzzle. Everyone has their own thought process; it is part of my responsibility as a tutor to connect with the student so we can learn to work together. In my spare time, I like to strike a balance between getting outside, playing the sports I love, and working on improving myself through online classes and continually sharpening my skills.

While at Carleton, I worked as a writing consultant at my college writing center and a teaching assistant for upper-level biology courses. Additionally, I volunteered for two years to teach English to a Syrian refugee college student seeking higher education opportunities in Europe and the United States. In my free time, I volunteer to run environmental education programs for middle school students. I am a firm proponent of the value of education, and I am excited bring a positive, enthusiastic attitude to every tutoring session.

I am a master's student at Western Washington University studying how nitrogen moves around an ecosystem. I did my undergraduate at Michigan Tech University where I studying Environmental Sciences and Math, which consequently are my two favorite subjects to tutor! While these two may seem very different, at their core, they're all about how things work. I've always found that if you peak behind the curtain at how something works, nothing is as scary or difficult as it may seem. Let's figure it out together!

I have been a teacher and mentor for over 20 years. I have worked with Miami-Dade County Public schools for over 15 years teaching all levels and programs in Spanish from kindergarten to high school. These teaching assignments have been a great opportunity to use my skills as a strong language teacher. I also include my knowledge of history, literature and the humanities in my practice.I graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a degree in Literature and Humanities. My research work on Spanish literature was published by the University's literary journal. After moving to Miami, I completed a Master's Degree in Modern Languages Education from Florida International University. I became a Spanish/Young Adults National Board Certified Teacher in 2005. I am a member of the Foreign Language Teachers Association and the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, and have been a certified AP Spanish teacher and exam reader with the College Board since 2006.I have been elected to be department chairperson in several occasions, working at two large urban schools within the Miami Dade district. I opened and expanded an International Baccalaureate program at John A. Ferguson HS, where I became an IB certified teacher, later on training and supervising 16 teachers in 8 different languages offered at the school. I taught and led an ESL department in Boston, MA for two years; where I also got an active certification in Spanish k-12. I published a short, bilingual story dedicated to my late father in June 2012. I now live in the Orlando area with my husband Jose and our dog, Harry.

Everyone comes into the field of education for a reason. For me I have been fueled by my desire to help students to overcome challenges that they face both academically as well as behaviorally in school. I have worked with adjudicated students at a wilderness camp, taught in public schools with students who have IEP's for emotional/behavioral difficulties, supported teachers through various special education needs, and have taught subjects such as reading, writing, social skills, history, and math. Needless to say, I have been driven to help others because I enjoy the challenge, building relationships, and helping to bridge the gap in learning difficulties.

I love learning and helping other people reach their full academic and intellectual potential!I'm currently in my third year of university, majoring in Communication Studies with a minor in Teaching English to Students of Other Languages (TESOL). I've had the privilege to study in a range of places, including Colorado, Washington, and Valparaiso, Chile. The teaching opportunities I've been given include weekly lessons with exchange students in the U.S, as well as volunteering with Valpo Surf Project, a non-profit that teaches English to underprivileged youth in Valparaiso, Chile. My time spent in South America has given me competence in Spanish as well, something that I'm excited to share as a Spanish tutor. Other than TESOL and Spanish, I'm passionate about subjects such as Geography, History, and Sociology.

It is about finding relevance in the material that is specific to YOU that makes what you are learning important!I graduated from Western Washington University in 2013 with a combined Bachelors of Science in Biology and Anthropology, and I am attending the University of Washington starting Fall 2015 in the Biocultural Anthropology PhD program, specializing in Medical Anthropology and Global Health. I have a passion for both science and creativity, as I find that both thrive when each is present. Outside of school, I'm an avid social dancer and have been teaching, DJing, and dancing for 3.5 years. I bring humor, enthusiasm, and tons of encouragement to my students. Let's learn together!
