I am a current medical student (MD/PhD) at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. I graduated in 2020 from UC San Diego with a degree in bioengineering: biotechnology. I have been a tutor for the past 5 years and my motto that I try to impart on students is to learn by doing.

I am a Mechanical Engineering student at Seattle Pacific University, and I love to help others grasp challenging concepts. I enjoy filling in gaps in students' understanding as well as working with students who are new to a subject. In the past, I have worked with students on a variety of mathematics subjects such as: algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. I am confident I can help students grasp just about any math concept. I have always had a drive to understand things completely and this has has helped me develop a comprehensive understanding of high school and early college mathematics and physics. Mathematics and physics are my favorite subjects to tutor because I appreciate the consistent logic that is fundamental to these to these topics. Whether it is a short ride to the river or a 300-mile ride to the Oregon coast, biking satisfies my inner desire for freedom, and the destination often involves a cool place to dive in.

I received my BS in Biology/Ecology from UCSD in 2011. I also earned a minor in English Literature. I moved to Oakland in 2013 to attend graduate school at SFSU where I earned my MS in Ecology Conservation Biology. I did my thesis studying social behavior and disease in salamanders! In the past I have done research on everything from sea turtles to birds and bugs, and have been lucky enough to travel to lots of cool places like Thailand, Panama, and Costa Rica to work on conservation projects. I work as field biologist.My husband and I moved to Portland in March 2018 and are excited to make it our home! Outside of work I love outdoor activities including hiking and camping (especially with our chocolate lab, Riley). I also love to bake, craft and sew, and do yoga.I have been tutoring for about 7 years now, working with students grades K-12 in a variety of subjects including math, science, reading comprehension and test preparation. My favorite subject to tutor is math, because when I was younger it was something that I struggled with until I got the right help. Now I like to give other students that same opportunity to reach their potential. I love helping students get excited about learning and boosting their confidence in subjects they might not have enjoyed before. When working with students I like to help them find what learning techniques are best for them. I myself am a visual learner, and I usually use this as a starting point, but I love to adapt based on students' personal needs.

Learning has always been my number one passion in life, and I can't wait to share that passion with my clients. I have extensive tutoring experience at DePaul's writing center, and have taken classes which help fine-tune my tutoring skills; I work with a diverse population of students, on a wide variety of writing-based projects. My favorite subject to tutor would be anything related to reading or writing, as these are the subjects I have the most experience with.
