Hi there!My name is Ashley and I am a 5 year registered Sonographer in multiple specialties.I currently have Ultrasound physics - also referred to as Sonography Principles and Instrumentation (SPI), RDMS (Abdomen) and Vascular (RVT) specialty state certifications. I also am currently working on my Obstetrics and Gynecology boards. I have experience in large hospitals, urgent care, outpatient and private practice settings. Within these settings I have worked on patients of all ages, cultures and religious beliefs that suffer from acute and chronic illness. Most of my experience comes from patients in the ICU, emergency room, labor and delivery, med-surg floor and operating room.I also work at a very large multi-specialty veterinary hospital performing ultrasounds on animals.

I am a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. I've always loved Math and the Sciences: the hunt for the right equation to use, the unravelling of the mystery of the value of x. I want to show my students to see these subjects as I do: as a challenge, not a chore. I try to do this by making things simple and showing straightforward techniques that students can use on their own to sidestep mental walls, thus building confidence. I love to see them succeed academically and value the opportunity to be a part of that success.I tutor Mathematics, Physics, SAT Prep and, my favorite, Computer Science. I have experience putting Computer Science to use both in the classroom and in the software industry, years of exposure to Physics and Mathematics in the classroom, and my own experience preparing for the SAT to draw on. With over 10 years’ experience as an educator I have worked with a diversity of audiences focusing on high school and college students. While working on my undergraduate degree in Biology at Northern Illinois University I started tutoring chemistry, biology, and math. This tutoring experience sparked my passion for teaching. After graduating I started working toward a Master of Science in Teaching at Portland State University. While in graduate school I tutored math and chemistry and was a teaching assistant for undergraduate science courses. Soon after graduating I started working at a local private college teaching math, environmental science, and ecology. Now over 6 years later I still love teaching student’s math and science. My favorite subject to tutor is math because students often struggle with this subject. It is very rewarding to help students overcome their math struggles and succeed in math. My tutoring style includes the following three components, 1) break up the material into small digestible pieces, 2) explain difficult concepts clearly and enthusiastically, and 3) work together as a team to make a plan to succeed. In my free time I spend exploring the woods hiking and canoeing our waterways. I love learning about animals and actually worked at a zoo working with monkeys and elephants.

I received my degree in Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University at IUPUI in Indianapolis. I have worked countless hours with classmates and friends tutoring them to prepare for exams and class projects. I currently tutor pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus. I love tutoring Trigonometry best because trig comes up countless times in engineering and it is now somewhat dear to my heart; however, Algebra is just as important since it is the building block towards something greater. My tutoring philosophy is that learning should be fun. The more you know, the stronger you are as a person. Learning shouldn't be a tedious exercise but an empowering tool. When I tutor, I attempt to inspire, to show the big picture and why this stuff matters by using real world examples that students can relate to. Education aside, I'm sure we have a lot in common. I'm a pretty normal guy who enjoys his down time. I like sci-fi movies and books, video games, biking, and hanging out with my friends. I also have an MA in history from Portland State University, which I used as a stepping stone into a PhD program at the University of Durham in the United Kingdom. A few years after I obtained my doctorate in early modern history, I went through the teacher training program at Lewis and Clark College and earned an MA in teaching.I am passionate about teaching the humanities, especially history, psychology and literature. I am equally passionate about teaching the skills each of these disciplines requires for mastery: critical thinking; reading and comprehension strategies; academic writing and effective research methods. My areas of expertise include American and European history (as well as historiography). I specialize in political and military history, and my interests touch upon issues such as conflict and warfare, colonialism, technology, social psychology and religion. I have received an Associates in Science from Portland Community College and nearly finished with my Bachelor's in Physics from Oregon State University, which I expect to have in August. Both my college and life experience has led me to work with people of various ages in a plethora of settings, but a favorite focus has been in teaching children. I have done a lot of outreach with my physics department with K-12 kids, including designing experiments and walking kids through demonstrations, but I've also worked with children in small groups in a more casual environment.Despite the focus on children, I have also worked with peers in math and physics and enjoy employing many different methods of learning, such as 3D models, folding paper, Mathematica graphs and simulations, and physician demonstrations.My favorite subject to teach is literature, with physics and mathematics close seconds. I also studied abroad in Panamawhere I researched poison dart frog behaviorand Spain, in addition to working in a bilingual English/Spanish elementary classroom. In the journey to learn Spanish myself, I have made many connections that make learning new languages more understandable and less daunting. I love working through the subtle adjustments which can make an essay powerful, and stepping through the processes of math and algebra.
