As a Teacher knowledgeable of the needs of Students With Disabilities, my duty has been to ensure the success of all students under my charge. I've been very adamant about advocating for better placement, accommodation, and services for all students, as SPED pedagogy is not only beneficial to SPED students, but general students as a whole. I have been mindful of the 60/40 Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) compliance compositions, Individualized Education Plan (IEP) setting compliance, and above all, delivery of services by a SPED instructor.

I believe every student is capable of success. My job as a tutor is to build foundations and develop strategies that ensure that success.I work with K-8 students developing skills, strategies, and knowledge that will help them become independent learners. My focus as a tutor is to help my students understand the concepts behind a skill. I believe that when you really understand how or why something works, you will never forget that skill.I enjoy tutoring a variety of subjects, but my favorites are writing and math. I have worked as an aquatic biologist in the Yellowstone National Park, and as an Environmental Health volunteer in Panama.I am multicultural, bilingual, accommodating and kind. I have a gift for kindling intellect, for harnessing the spark of genius and turning it into real achievement.Sometimes it's little things: I have discovered that eating a piece of fruit right before a big test can raise scores upwards of ten percent. That a scholar who learns to view the SAT as if it were a parlor game can overcome anxiety. That mastery of dimensional analysis is worth a full point on an AP exam and spot in an elite university.I live with my wife in Park Slope. My recent wedding was featured in the New York Times.

I am a graduate from Pace School of Performing Arts with a BFA in Acting. Throughout my academic career I have studied literature, writing, and performance of many genres. Previous to college I took Advanced Placement classes in English Language, English Literature, and many more subjects. Scoring high enough to place out of freshman English, I was able to challenge myself in upper level classes completing with high marks. I worked as a part-time tutor in May 2016 for third grade reading comprehension and have worked consistently in child care from the age of 15. My passion and experience with children, theatre arts, language, and writing fuels my work in tutoring. I strive to inspire growth and confidence within people of all ages in their academic pursuits.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, where I learned all about bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches, and attended Stuyvesant High School, where I learned all about homework and sleeping on the train. I'm continuing my learning at Stanford University for a degree in computer science and English. I've been tutoring for three years now, and having recently taken admissions and AP tests, I am happy to impart all the tips and tricks I learned from studying for them myself. For me, tutoring isn't just a way to raise my students' grades or test scores (though that is a big part of tutoring!), but also increase their self-confidence and love of learning. I have extensive experience working with students prepping for Elementary and Intermediate school's State-Wide Tests based on the ELA, Math, and Science Common Core Curriculum. I have a strong linguistics background in syntax, phonetics, phonics, and etc. I am passionate about educating and finding methods of comprehension that best work for you!

I'm a Los Angeles native new to Brooklyn! I received my BA in Modern Literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz and my MS in Counseling Psychology from California State University, Long Beach. Despite the humanities degrees, I've always been a math and science nerd. My favorite science course was Stars and Stellar Evolution taught by professor Stanford Woosley, one of the preeminent experts on supernovae. My favorite math course was Discrete Mathematics taught by professor Jordan Ellenberg. Professor Ellenberg just published a great book that covers many of the topics from that class called "How Not to Be Wrong: The Power of Mathematical Thinking"!Back in Los Angeles, I worked as a tutor and coached a high school wrestling team. As a tutor, I spent a lot of time working with high school students working on Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Statistics, PreCalc, Chemistry, Psychology, and English. I really like working with teenagers because they like to have fun, but they also know how to tackle serious academic subjects.Outside of academia, I train, teach, and compete in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I love the technical aspects of the sport. I cross train in judo and wrestling. Between these sports, I have over a decade of martial arts experience. I've been a lot of cool places and met a lot of cool people in my travels to train and compete!

Over the course of the last 16 years, I have had experience with a variety of exams given to middle school and high school students ranging from 7th-8th grade ELA exams to the English Regents exam given in high school. Not only have I prepared more than 1500 students during that time, I have also had the opportunity to grade those very exams. That has given me the advantage of being able to share what the expectations and criteria are for success on those exams.As a father of two children within the NYC school system, I understand the value of providing children with additional opportunities to receive extra help beyond the classroom. I believe wholeheartedly that students who have the ability to receive individualized instruction often fare better than those who do not.

Recently I've graduated from the CUNY Graduate Center in Manhattan with a Master's in Liberal Arts. I wrote my thesis on the rise of vigilante heroes in Marvel Comics during the early 1980s and how these reflected the same time period in New York City. I have lived in New York for the past two and a half years in Manhattan, Brooklyn and now Ridgewood, Queens. In 2012 I graduated Trinity College in Hartford, CT with a degree in Sociology. During my undergraduate years at Trinity, I had the opportunity to travel and study in Cape Town, South Africa. During that time I volunteered in both prisons and townships working with students on reading and language skills as well as arts and crafts. I also had the chance to meet with several street artists who gave me a tour and discussed the street art history in Cape Town. These experiences have helped me in promoting learning as a way to strengthen one's life and gain opportunities that may have seemed impossible before. I love reading, art especially illustration, mural and street art as well as comics and graphic novels. I love different types of music from Hip Hop to Rock, Jazz, and Reggae and try to see different bands in my spare time.
